Soothe is great - tje price is inflated, and unrealistic. Surprised it takes so long for competitors and improved versions to come onto the market...Now we have several to choose from.

Probably a patent issue. I first heard about soothe in 2016, maybe 2017? Patents are like 7 years. The timing lines up. Kinda like how Kemper was the only thing that did what it did and now there are several alternatives.

@rebirth4119
@rebirth4119 Ай бұрын
So I do like that Equator works both as resonance suppressor and tone shaper(towards pink noise) but I think there's one thing missing. The problem resonance suppressors tend to have is that you spend a lot of time fiddling around because either its clamping down too hard on formant frequencies(which also affects transients) or not enough and is harsh/muddy. I feel like if they had a parallel mode using the delta(and isolate the group of frequencies you want) you could reintroduce certain uncompressed resonances just enough so the overall sound feels balanced but not lifeless. For those wondering, the pink noise frequency response is generally sought after because it's frequency energy is balanced per octave(leading to a balanced sound). But you don't want your sound to follow this 100%- you still need certain resonances to give the sound tonal qualities(rather than sounding more like noise) and act as transient information.
@oinkooink
@oinkooink Ай бұрын
These kinds of plugins wouldn't know a problematic resonance inside the context of your mix from a hole in the wall.
@rebirth4119
@rebirth4119 Ай бұрын
@@oinkooink That's not what I'm saying though. I'm not wanting the plugin to make mixing decisions for me actually . This plugin is a spectral downwards compressor that that follows the target curve you set. You don't need it to recognize what are the problematic resonances actually because you can actually introduce some of those resonances in parallel. The delta function on plugins like soothe 2 allow you hear what frequencies you're attenuating(which will be resonances). Now if you took this delta function(with a high/low pass to isolate specific resonances you want) and had it as a parallel signal to the compressed signal, you would a clean, balanced signal that still has important resonances.

Smooth operator really isn't a good plugin to remove resonances. It's a decent de harsher which is a different thing, or a space maker. Soothe 2 was the most overhyped plugin of an entire year when released. I ended up spending so many hours learning every nuance of it so I could at least say I wasn't to blame when I couldn't get results. For removing resonances, what it was designed for, it's actually *terrible* and to me the worst of all the resonance removing plugins. To de harsh certain frequencies, THAT'S where it had some use and it should have never been advertised as anything but. I sold it and never looked back and will never fall for forum hype again and trust my self from now on. To remove resonances, nothing I have tried so far can do it like WA Production deres. All that one does it what it says, remove resonances without fudging up the source sound. I have so many A/B comparisons of getting instant results with that and spending an hour with soothe and it couldn't even get close. And the price of soothe, just outrageous.

looks great. but for the topic of side chaining to make space for masked signals, track spacer is still king. its so much easier and faster to use than soothe & Co. just tweak the low/ high range and use amount and your reward. then tweak M/S and attack / release on the advanced page. very easy to get transparent results.

@realraven2000
@realraven2000 Ай бұрын
@@IamHovaFlo Absolutely, on top of that it is very easy to use. It sounds very transparent up to 12-15%. Use it in Mid side moden and go more towards Mid, so the lead vocal gets lots of space there. It's also very MONO compatible. Make sure to use the band limiting - low cut up to 180-240hz depending on how much "Low space" your vocal needs - high cut to taste. For a lead vocal I would go with a fast attack and medium to fast release and you will get a totally transparent result. You will simply hear the vocal much better without feeling the cut in the instruments. You can also use it for make low mid - high mid space for lead vocals in the backing vocals, again M/S is good here as BVs are usually wider anyway, and this will be extra transparent and make lots of space for the Lead without affecting the impact of the BVs. It's just the easiest way to do this quickly and transparently. Don't go too heavy on the percentage it should not feel like "ducking", just turn it up so that you get more clarity in the Lead. Also can be used for lead guitars or other lead instruments, to give them their "body" back in the mix.

@Riktenstein we're on to you waves. I decided to remove a large amount of my waves plugins because of this reason. Their business model is very shady, charging their customers again on order to update the plugins they already have should be criminal. That being said this does look like a useful tool 🤦‍♂️

I'm still not convinced that this is a Sooth killer, Sooth is special and I still keep it on my wishlist, even though it costs 200 dollar, which hopefully will drop a bit. The multiband functionallity of equator gives away that equator is not like Sooth, Sooth does a much better job of removing harshness! The same could be said about Waves Silk when I watched the review. Instead of trying to beat Sooth 2 , Waves should focus on getting awesome plugins emulations on the market! They have been messing around too much lately with plugin concepts which look aweful and modern and their unhealthy focus on A.I is also raising red flags! I would ratrher see studio gear emulations of famous units being crafted so people can get the gear their like but can't afford.
