@@lauragrace101 No, it only makes them human. People don’t just hate or love each other. It’s both. You can love some parts of a person and hate some. To not acknowledge this is to deny human nature. I say this as a son, who’s not yet a father. I’m sure my father hates some parts of me, and loves some too. I have no doubt I have my fathers love, but I’m not blind to the fact he’s human.

@@swaggitypigfig8413 I think it’s a difference between disliking some things about your kid and “hating”. They are very different. Its possible to love someone and dislike things they do. I knew my dad hated me, and he was an abusive, awful father. And it’s always stuck with me. It’s ok to like your kids and dislike some things about them. Hating them is a very big difference and says more about you. Edit: really, it says more about how you RAISED them.

I really liked AJ. I felt empathy for him, because we could clearly see that his behavior was a product of his household environment. He grew up seeing bitterness, screaming, all kinds of things… he was bound to be this lazy teen who needs to find an easy way to make money and do things, as he was bound to become depressed. The environment where he grew up basically told him to be that way. And I can relate to that. That’s why I never hated AJ. Sure, he was a complete idiot sometimes, but above that he was always lost.

This show is so frozen in the aughts culture of the US and I love it for that reason as I was in highschool when it aired. It was so prescient from the flip phones, the war on terror, the hummer vehicles, the pre-housing collapse speculation, the hairstyles. This show would be vastly different if it were made today. It just would not have the same flavor. It was truly made in the perfect era-frozen in amber. Thank God David Chase graced us with this masterpiece.

No matter what you do in your life, right or wrong, it'd never be good enough. At least AJ and Meadow grew up to be nothing like their hypocritical parents. Tony and Carmella did their best as parents, but lets face it, they do take a lot of their anger out on their kids, especially Tony towards poor AJ. Tony is such a hypocrite and I love it how Dr Melfi constantly reminds him of it during their Therapy sessions. Psychology in a nutshell.

I'll always be blown away at this show for creating the connections and tendencies between the family and real life in the 90s and 2000s. Even in the Mob, Tony sees his son glued to the computer and even in the Mob, AJ is misunderstood and sees his father as the absentee, glued to work and obsessed with the things that it gives instead of focusing on love and kinship. It is a mirror image of numerous families in the capitalist age of the 2000s

I really love this scene honestly because season 6 Dr. Melfi is just different. You don’t really know why at first but then this scene hits and you realize “oh she’s done taking his shit”. Dr. Melfi was engulfed by the curiosity that she had w treating tony as a patient and how it gave her some excitement to her life, but by season 6 after dealing with the endless loops for too long, she’s had enough. This entire season she is way more stern and upfront with the way she talks to him. She isn’t exactly babying him anymore or trying to figure out issues. She asks him what he’s thinking and feeling, explain the situation, and then feeds him exactly the cold hard truth. Here was the best example because she hit him where it’s personal. His mother.
