It’s probably because he (tony) felt that he couldn’t rely on them much anymore after a series of screw ups and they weren’t able to improve themselves. With the pine barrens situation , chrissys drug abuse, paulie went to jail briefly, the Columbus episore that made sil look bad. He just got fed up with it all and started looking after himself . Eventually he was looked as soft, weak, unreliable and the only reason he lasted this long was literally because he was related to Tony. He would've probably died along with Branden if it wasn't for him being related to Tony. In the end all Chrissy wanted was the same fear & respect Tony had but he could never achieve it because it was always so obvious he was going out of his way to look like a tough guy when he really looked a dipshit and Tony had to scold him many times for whatever Chrissy did wrong.

I don't really see that is the reason they're relationship deteriorated. It was a big part of what kept them apart and that's obviously not going to help things but I think as Chris got older he just became less and less reliable in Tony's eyes, and at some point Tony (who only "loved" him because he saw him a protege) realized he was never going to be reliable enough to succeed him, and so he killed him. Just my take on it of course.

"Left the Mob(?)" Hmm... I agree with you in a sense. Tony should have let Chris pursue his Film Fantasies in Hollywood with Adriana even after Chrissy was made. Let Chris go, he sends packages back home every now and then; movie profits, gift show shit, whatever. Maybe Chris sets up a club out in Hollywood that the stars attend, whatever... Tony never knew how to strike a balance with people, it was all about what Tony wanted OR, Fuck 'em they're useless too him. If he struck a balance with Chrissy or even with Blundetto, they'd both be alive; so would Tony for that matter.
@MSimp2k6
@MSimp2k6 4 жыл бұрын
@@thehighburyzone311 I Agree. Tony became a lot more unforgiving as a boss and as a human being as the seasons passed. By Season 5 and 6, Tony was considering whacking people for basically anything (Paulie & possibly Hesh, for example). Having said that, Chris should've never been fast-tracked up the ladder from day one. I'd forgotten just how unreliable he was until I watched the whole run again. In the first two or three seasons if you just listened to Chris then Tony's name might as well be, "Sorry T!" On the other hand, even when Chris is keeping up his end and not using, Tony ruins Chris's chances of sobriety by constantly breaking his balls regarding his abstention from booze (and he does it in such a way that they don't have a serious discussion about it, he just undermines him and makes 'joke' comments that have a serious undertone). At that point, there's absolutely nothing Chris could do to win. It didn't matter how well he performed or the sacrifices he made, Tony would never respect his choices. I also think Tony treats Chris more harshly as the seasons progress as his presence is a constant reminder of Tony's own poor decision-making re: Chris's promotions. I think the really interesting part of the Tony & Chris relationship is that Tony is meant to be a surrogate father figure to Chris, just as Junior was a father figure to Tony. Tony is simultaneously the nephew who complains that his uncle is to blame for the breakdown of their relationship while also being the uncle that blames his nephew. Tony is a piece of shit and can't reflect on any of his terrible decisions.

That's 1 way to look at it. Another way is that in a world of stone cold killers, becoming a glaring liability is a death sentence. Remember, years earlier Tony learned that Christopher was a junkie. A real mobster would have killed him then and there. No way a boss could risk a junkie underling flipping on him over a nickel bag. That was strike 1. Tony gave him HUGE pass by letting him go to rehab and sparing his life. Then Christopher got high again, shot up Tony's SUV, and tried to shoot Tony after his girlfriend got in the accident with Tony. Doesn't matter that Tony wanted to fuck Adrianna. Trying to shoot a mob boss is an absolute death sentence 100% of the time. Strike 2. Again Tony gave Christopher the pass of a lifetime and spared his life. I won't even count the movie Christopher made where the plot mocked Tony repeatedly-another stunt that should have gotten him killed. When Tony discovers that Christopher is using again after the last accident it was Strike 3. No way Tony or any legit mob boss could let him live. A junkie in police custody will flip quicker than a flapjack EVERY time. So yeah, a cold blooded murderer killed his nephew, another cold blooded murderer, for something he should have killed him for years earlier.

They openly laughed. It was everyone. Even Tony. He was surrounded by pure evil that didn’t even hide it’s mockery of his loving comments about a child of his. He’s realized he’s outcasted. That BBQ scene was pretty brutal. It's sad that Tony cannot stand to even hear criticism levelled at the male influences in his life. I found it pretty striking that when speaking with Melfi, Tony waves away any exploration of the topic (even when Melfi pushes the fact that Tony had to cover for Johnny Boy's affair when Livia is in hospital, Tony doesn't give it serious consideration -- if the roles were reversed he would've added it to the list of Reasons Why My Mother Was a Bitch). Tony even goes so far as to seek out some sort of friendship with his dad's mistress, ostensibly to either get to know his dad a little more by proxy, or just to find more reasons to shit on his mother.

Tony’s treatment of Chrissy in the final seasons I think really cemented his hypocrisy and his growing monstrosity. He gets Christopher into rehab by force because he’s “fucking up” and then mocks and belittles him for not drinking or partying anymore because that’s not masculine. Tony really transformed from antihero into a genuinely unlikable person by the end and it’s both impressive and kind of horrifying to watch. It feels like a true betrayal.

Tony didn't communicate it in the best way, but he wanted Chris to strike a balance and drink in moderation. It was necessary to wine and dine if you were gonna take over as a mob boss. Tony was *never* an anti-hero, my guy. At best he killed fellow criminals for equally criminal reasons. Meanwhile he victimized civilians implicitly just by his status as captain and then as boss or explicitly and directly with people like Dave Scatino. He turned from a loveable villain with some of redeeming qualities and charisma to a hateable one with very very few.

The slow-motion laughs are always an indicator for that person being extremely pissed off I think it’s happened to Tony twice before and other episodes could’ve been more though

Loved this about the series ,Tony used Chrissy and popped in as a father figure in the absence of his father , As Tony's father died and he was older he knew what he was doing as he groomed him as a foot soldier. The minute Chrissy started maturing and questioning the reason of it all. Tony knew there was no point in keeping him around.

I never understood why they kept having these breaking balls sessions. It seemed like half the time they ended with someone getting beaten, stabbed or shot to death...or all three at the same time.

I like how near the end of the series you start to see everyone’s true colors. The show starts to show you the dark side of the mafia.

No matter how many times I see that scene, every time Paulie insults Chrissy's daughter I want him to stand up and say something along the lines of "I don't give a fuck about your stripes, you ever make a joke like that about my daughter and I'll put one between your fucking eyes" He completely loses whatever remaining shred of dignity he had at this point, and every time I see that scene I'm desperately hoping he'll stand up for himself. Or that Tony or another crew member will say something. Chrissy was a fuck up who I think was ultimately to blame for his own demise, but it still makes me sad to see it nevertheless.

He might have ultimately ruined his own life but they pushed him into it every chance they could. Losing Adriana really broke him and really set him on the final path to his own death. If Tony hadn't done it I think he would have killed himself just to escape

His stripes wouldn't even matter. They were both the same rank. Chrissy had every reason to threaten paulie with death. It's honestly very uncharacteristic that he didn't do that. But i guess chrissy turns sentimental when he gets shitfaced lol

Christopher had a lot of reasons to be resentful at Tony. But I have no idea why Tony felt so much contempt towards him: he was always loyal, he always told him the truth, he never stole him (like other guys in his family), he renounced Adriana for him, he risked his addiction recovery just to please Tony with his insistence ("join me a drink", "spend more time at the club", etc), he obbeyed every order he was given, he always told him how much he admired him, thanked him and loved him... I never understood why he treated him with so much disdain...

It's kind of annoying how perceptive Carmella is of everything. The biggest part of that is because the writers want her to but how the hell should she be 100% certain that Chris was still mad about Tony and Adriana
