Sierra Hull joined by Sarah Jarosz, Sara Watkins, & Aoife O'Donovan for a Saturday afternoon set at Grey Fox 2019. Darned inconvenient of them to spread out across the stage like that. Sorry, Sara Watkins.

Sarah Jarosz is perfect in how she follows the leader, whoever she sings with. Her timing, harmony, and everything else is perfect. She is truly an amazing talent. Sierra Hull is good too, BTW.

Wow. Some of the best current practitioners of what is sometimes called "Americana" are supremely talented young women. Each of these four fits that bill.

I wonder if those words mean something to them? or is it just a catchy tune?
@edeledeledel54903 жыл бұрын
How is that so-called Christians regularly exhibit such an unChristian attitude... What a totally unnecessary and bitchy comment.
@runwillrobinson3 жыл бұрын
@@edeledeledel5490 You miss the point entirely,. I have been a professional musician and know that sometimes the best of words may not mean anything to those singing them. And who says I am a Christian? Pretty judgey there Edsel.
@edeledeledel54903 жыл бұрын
@@runwillrobinson If you really are a professional musician, I would have thought you would have detected that they were all concentrating on not cocking something up, as this was obviously an impromptu performance, either completely unrehearsed or seriously under-rehearsed. And superb and committed professional musicians as they are, they were trying to give a good performance and entertain their audience without a big gaff in the middle of it. And if you are not a Christian, why the hell does it bother you?

@@edeledeledel5490 my sentiments exactly. I brought that link with me, and found you'd already made it available. She and the song draw the likes of Ricky Skaggs and Sharon White, nobody going all virtuoso; I think if Mr. R. watches her sing this song (and considers the chances they all chose it to be catchy) his question will be answered....It's also a pretty good song - here's another take from another generation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qITGYmVmatafjpo

I hate it when people don't put that extra passing 4 chord in there
@Tex45453 жыл бұрын
I know what your mean. I prefer using the 4 chord. I made most of the arrangements a gospel bluegrass band I was in, but I didn’t know this song (that’s hard for me to believe now). The guys were used to skipping the 4 chord, so I just let it go. I played a 5 note riff for that note that make it palatable for me. Those passing chords are done a lot of the time to make the music flow more smoothly. Look at Amazing Grace. At the end of the line, “blind but now I see”. Most folks play a 6th minor and then skip the passing 1 chord and go straight to the 5 on “now” (yes, there is a 1 there). That makes is must smoother though. Some even skip the minor too and go to the 5 on “now”. I always use the minor, but I don’t mind skipping the 1 chord if playing it at a fast tempo. After all, Ricky Skaggs doesn’t play it.
