I love this wonderful wonderful hymn! Last year, I got to ride with my friend Bostyn on his four wheeler. I've been known to sing this song to Bostyn, whilst I'm riding in the back with him. I'm on a breathing machine, through a tracheostomy, but I can sure sing this song, with my heart's content, whilst I'm with Bostyn! His Grandparents have heard this song, as well, and they know I love singing it, whilst Bostyn takes me for a ride. Now this year, I haven't been as healthy, and something's wrong with the four wheeler, and it hasn't been repaired I don't believe, but listening to this hymn reminds me of the special rides, I've had with Bostyn! I hope I have more rides with him! I truly hope it happens!

The Spacious Firmament on High sung by the Trinity College Choir is a superb example of perfect harmony as only those choirs in the United Kingdom produce with seeming ease. Wonderful! I could listen repeatedly to this hymn.

I just came here to say that the tall guy in the back at 0:36 is in a band called Glass Animals now and I'm their fan. His name is Ed. You see me really calm rn but I'm actually panicking.

This would have to be close to the top of the list of the multitudes of marvellous Christian music! The location, together with the beautiful singing by the lovely young people, match the exquisite words of expression from the scriptures. Congratulations to all concerned. Just superb!! Thank you.

Yes, the tune name is Addison's (also 'London') by John Sheeles. The version I found on Hymnary.org is slightly different at the end; the last line isn't repeated as it is in this video.

@spiritdei Thank you for the information. However, the Choir is under Stephen Layton not John Rutter. Mr Layton also directs Polyphony and the Holst Singers. Mr Rutter formed the Cambridge Singers, but I'm not sure if they're still under him.

One of my favorites! It saddens me that you mangle the tune and you sing it too fast, IMHO.

Interesting comment, Anthony. Can you say what it is you don't like? The tune itself, perhaps, or how it's sung?
@anthonycampbell5103 жыл бұрын
@@wurlitzer895 , it is different to the original. I don't like the tune.

@@anthonycampbell510 Thanks for that reply, Anthony. Are you more familiar with 'Creation', which I believe is much more widely known in some parts, certainly in the USA? If so, that'a an adaptation of the melody from the chorus 'The Heavens are Telling', from Haydn's wonderful oratorio 'The Creation'. Tunes to hymns are very personal to people, and speaking as a ex-church organist, I have received many a lambasting for playing 'the wrong tune'! Keep well, stay safe and all good wishes. Peter A
