You might as well just re-name the Leafs "The Toronto Sweaters", because in the end fans just want to trade players every time the team loses. We no longer are cheering for a team of players, but just a sweater. Shuffle the deck...put some new guys in the Sweaters. Go Sweaters!! Personally, I like when Toronto area guys play for the TORONTO Maple Leafs. I hope the Leafs keep Marner...the Sweater fans can kick rocks!

They should, we'd get a lot and to be honest he sucks in the playoffs. Marner kept us in the series with Boston when we were down 3-1 and then Willy did it and then mathews came back and we lost.

Trade the best scoring player in the league. Trade the player who is on pace to pass both Ovechkin and Gretzky. What a stupid question to an even dumber answer. Trade Matthews, what a joke. He literally won game 2 and was sick for game 3, leaving in the 3rd and missing 4,5,6 and may as well say the 3rd. Ever had food poisoning? He assisted on the only goal the leafs had in game 7 and still wasn't 100%. You have to be a child.

Zach now at 67 goals this year - only has two less goals than Matthews. Playoff goals are more important than regular season ones. Why doesn’t the top goal scorer get the Richard Trophy (including playoff goals)? If Mitch stays one more year with the Leafs - with better coaching for Marner’s back checking and learning to thrive and use his skills in playoff officiating - maybe that is the best option for now. Otherwise - how would Marner look playing with Florida - while Leafs pay Mitch $3 Million extra for 8 years - to cover Leafs overpaying Mitch for years on his inflated current contracts?

Are people really this dense. He missed the entire playoffs and was sick and injured for game 7. Matthews is on pace to pass both Ovechkin and Gretzky, but let's get rid of him. He literally put the team on his back in game 2 and if not for him, we lose that game. The assisted on thd only goal scored in game 7 still injured. He was nominated for the selke finishing just behind barkov. He should have won it. Children typing out the dumbest shit.

It will be tuff to trade marner because of the no movement clause in his contract but if he lifts it depends on the return if they could get a couple of nhl ready players hopefully a good dman and a top 6 fwd and a 1st round pick that would be great but the other team would want to sign marner to a longterm extension

Mike needs to shut his mouth regarding Tavares. IIHF is far less competitive than NHL hockey. It doesn't say much when you're an 11 million dollar player and can get some points over there. When the going gets tough he disappears. He had 2 points in 7 games against Boston. How do you explain that Mike?

Marner is the only one who truly disappears. The weakest link. How many points does Marner have in games 5, 6 and 7. These are the final year of Tavares contract of course there will be a drop off. Marner is suppose to be in his prime.

1. Trade Jarnkrok, Robertson, Liljegren, and Timmins 2. Resign Bertuzzi, Dewar, Domi, Edmundson, and Lyubushkin 3. Bring in young troops Grebyonkin, Quillan, and Webber as an auxiliary unit next season 4. Have a good look at Cowan next season 5. Sign Stolarz to share goalkeeping with Woll, sign Zadorov and/or Pesce on defence, sign Trenin up front 6. If he agrees and there's a good trade for Marner - a quality piece back, a pick or prospect, and cap space - okay, otherwise, see how he responds to Berube 7. Hire Giordano as part of coaching staff

@@Alex18NY Holy Cow, nice. Again 100% support that take. Marner is an easy target. He is a top 20 player in the league. Would NOT take prospects in return. Should get you a good goalie and defender. Question is who? I dont think there is a team out their that fills both. Chychrun and Korpisalo < NO Saros & Barrie/+++ < No Gustafsson & Brodin < No A Vegas trade makes sense. Get either Aiden Hill or less likely due to cap reason Logan Thompson plus Alex Pietrangelo and something else. Maybe a Nick Hague. I really dont see Toronto taking a swing at a Yaroslav Askarov or Spencer Knight. Too much risk for the market.

Hi guys, been a leafs fan since 1971 approximately, Ron Ellis was my favorite player back then, just turned 60. Through the entire ordeal of backing this team I've always seen a variable that has kept this team from ever winning anything and today as we speak they are still missing this element from their team make up it's not rocket science. Toronto always had good goalies(it's kind of up in the air right now) they've add some pretty good offensive stars also and still do, but, the forever intangible about this team as always been a team that was never built around a sound defensive corp, they lack both the personnel and they will more than often also lack team defense. All the good teams have 1 sometimes 2 Norris or close to Norris candidates on their rosters, when did the leafs last have a Norris type dman on their roster??? Am I wrong in my assessment??? Their scouting and drafting in that department had been a disaster. What's so hard to understand? It's team building 101, we're sitting on our couches here and we know that's the fix. Lol...

Sheldon Keefe is not a good coach, the lack of playoff success proves it. Simply getting hired by another team doesn't prove anything, only that NHL teams reliably play it safe and recycle coaches. He does deserve another chance , but thinking anything different that his time is Toronto was an utter failure is insane.

Playoff Pedigree is an acquired trait and often takes time to come along. I think Keefe was a wrong place, wrong time thing with the Leafs. We got him from the minors. The pedigree wasn't there... yet. Give it another 5-10 years. Very seldom does a coach go from AHL to NHL and have success in their first decade.

Marner is the weakest link and softest player on the team. He is in his prime and looks like a rookie compared to Knies. Marner was pretty much making $11 right after his rookie entry-level contract. He hasn’t done anything in games 5, 6 and 7 in the playoffs. At least Tavares shows up more for the bigger games and only started declining towards the end of his contract.

Shea will be 29 this year, has 1 more year left on his contract at 5.2M, they just signed Hanifin at 7.35M for 8 years, they have Pietangelo at 8.8M for 3 more years, Shea will be looking for 8 yrs at 9 to 10M and maybe they looking at a Marner for more offence...Hmmm!

2:52 disagree. It’s the coaches job to get the best out of the roster, adapt to opposition coaching (ie shutting down powerplay and offense every year…..), etc. Leafs never played their best hockey in post season. Not even close. Not a one player issue. Bad goaltending was the special sauce every failure.

Yes players don’t execute every year but it’s a team issue not one player. That’s on coaching. The Leafs consistently played awful against weak opponents. What did the coach do to address this issue. This nonsense was allowed to continue for years. Sorry but Keefe should have been let go years ago. He blew a 3-1 series lead and the only series win was 3 OT games that they were mostly outplayed!!

Tavares is a good player but his contract is part of the problem with the Leafs. I don’t like his play in the post season, but again the whole team looked bad. So I blame coaching when he looks good on team Canada…. I mean come on here…

Vince Dunn is the best player the Leafs can get. Instantly becomes the #1 dman and the $4m cap space gets them most of the way to another defenseman. Marner can have a nice life in Seattle with Wright and McCann

Make all the excuses you like, Keefe was a SHIT COACH for the Leafs; he'll bottom out at his new position; I'd give him three seasons till he's fired. The players for the Leafs ARE a problem, but he never motivated them at all. NOTHING NEW WITH THE LEAFS TILL SHANAHAN IS FIRED.
