Welcome to The Spectrum Show, the show dedicated to the Sinclair ZX Spectrum.
In this episode I take a look at the news from June 1985.
I try to connect my Spectrum to my PC to transfer files and rescue old microdrives.
I review some older games.
I take a look at a newer game and end the show with Type-In Corner.
Thanks for watching. Check my blog for details of other shows and complete episode guides.
The game featured in Type-In Corner will be available to download from the blog too.

Love your show, I'm 43, so the Speccy was a part of my life I'll always cherish, and is the reason I ended up in Computers for a living. From 1983 till 1987, birthday parties of myself and my friends were "computer parties" where we all brought our machines to each others homes and just played games.. ahh.. the memories :)

Just found out about The Spectrum Show from Paul. I love the Spectrum, such an amazing computer back then, and even now with the amazing community support it still receives. I first came across the ZX Spectrum in 82, when it was launched, and got my 48K as a Christmas present in 84. I used it actively up until around 1990, when I upgraded to an Atari 520 STFM. I always had love for my Speccy though, and still do, as evidenced by the fact I spent many many months of hard work writing a ZX Spectrum emulator "MetroSpec" for Windows Phone, and still tinker with it now, looking to add support for 128K, AY, Windows 8 etc

Hi there, I've found a program on WOS called Microdrive Doctor V3.0 by Pipeq Systems! It's an mdr file, but I've managed to put it in a tap file using an Emulator. Using * CAT it gives file names and start address/line number and length of code. The instructions are also there in PDF.

I finally got through watching all your vids, I really enjoyed them, thanks and keep them coming :) . So many memories, truely the golden era where games were more varied which is probably why I find myself playing indie games over triple a modern games.

I love how the box and loading screen for Star Runner have a guy in two different 2000AD style space suits but the in game guy looks like he's in his flat cap and dungeroos.

Just wonder if you managed to use plastic tweezers to pull whats left of the old pad, and stick in another bit of foam pad in there, cos Ill bet your data is still on the MD cartridge.... am only on episode 29, got all the way to 95 to see if you did recover the data!!

Star Runner looks like a complete rip off of the old Namco arcade game, Metro Cross. Which got a decent spectrum port from US Gold. I got the Amstrad version as a kid as my mum found it in oxfam. :D

Another excellent show. Where do you get all this news info from all those years ago? You make it sound current. I wonder how much Sir Clive has ownership of Sinclair now Maxwell is no longer with us.

I remember when I got Ghostlink running for my Atari's. Still think the PC-to-micro programs are darned clever.

Nice video all around once again Paul :) I wonder if it's possible, if not published in any magazine, if you would be so kind as to add useful basic programs, not just games, but don't bring the games less in any way :). A sample on database management, a small calculator program for useful calculations, you know, what we all loved to program besides games. :) All around a very educative video that I loved to watch. :)

I have just put out a blog/tweet asking for viewers type-ins that they did from magazines (not just games). I have none left, so need help for the next series. Be interesting to see what turns up!

USB sierial adapters are tricky. Use always the delivered driver. Atherwise it won´t work.

Guy Fawkes also looks a lot like Weasel Willy from the infamous spectrum game "Don't Buy This".

Was the phrase 'under the Houses of Parliamet.' corrected too? Or was it that way in the original code?

I don't do anything special, it's just a scart lead I bought from eBay for my +2 and +3, and a standard composite lead for my 48k and Spectrum+ (both have composite mods). Maybe I got lucky with the TV?

Yes, but I wanted to keep the games as they were published, as you got them in the magazine - if the listing didn't have errors though ;-)
