Manhattan's statement, taken literally from Watchmen proper, shows that Manhattan is being manipulated, just as Manhattan has manipulated the DCU. That he is a puppet who can see his puppeteer and laments how he cannot help his situation as (presumably) Superman, Batman or the Flash can. So the question is: who's pulling Manhattan's strings? Well... the writer obviously. Just as Manhattan was bound by the fate that Moore & Gibbons burdened him with in Watchmen, someone is burdening Manhattan with a new fate. Stealing the 10 years, killing Metron, Owlman & Pandora, and seemingly taunting Thawn, Barry & Bruce with the events of this story (with the ultimate challenge, Jay, and Flashpoint Thomas respectively). Who is the writer? Well, obviously, it's someone from Earth Prime, which created the DCU and its Multiverse. The real question is this: Is the writer Geoff Johns himself making his ultimate statement against cynicism, or is it Superboy-Prime, who has allowed cynicism to completely corrupt him?

The implication from the imagery seemed to be almost that the blood on the button (previously of course that of the Comedian) now belongs to Superman. And since Superman just got rebooted (the New 52 and pre-52 versions merged, now there's just 1 Superman/Clark Kent and Lois and their son Jon the Superboy that everyone remembers, with Superman's secret identity spoiler having been wiped) it doesn't even have be a blood that even someone that had superman's blood on file like Batman likely would have would be able to recognize, since it's now different... though tbh that sounds a little too convoluted. :P

I don't think that Bruce Wayne is going to change much in regards to how he approaches the balance between his "Batman" side and his "Bruce" side; at least not for a while. The reason for this is something I feel you missed when reading / discussing this story. At 9:08, Bruce says to Barry: _"You're the only other person I know who's suffered loss like I have.... and also had a glimpse of the alternative. A moment of hope. A boyhood dream. _*_It's almost cruel._*_"_ I bolded out that last part myself for emphasis. Because that line tells us that Bruce Wayne doesn't see the meeting with his father as a reconciliation. or in any way as a means of finding closure for his parents' death. Rather, he feels like he lost his father *a second time*. So if losing his parents the first time made him become Batman, then I personally think that losing his father a second time will make him even *more* determined to devote his life to avenging the death of his parents and fighting crime as Batman.

There was a theory I read on one of your videos that got me thinking. That "Dr. Oz" is actually Dr. Manhattan (Jon Osterman), and that the person with the powers messing stuff up is actually Ozymandious. That Ozymandious is starting to master Manhattan's powers as he was starting to at the end of Watchmen. It would be a cool twist and not the straightforward thinking we are meant to have.

The Jay Gerrick we have seen so far, well his backstory at least, appears to be a combination of his new 52 version and pre 52 version on the count of his helmet now offically being refered to as "The Helmet of Mercury" a reference to not only Jay's helmet but his origin in the new 52's where he was gifted with the speed of a god by the god of speed

people are focused on Manhattan and havent considered that Manhattan might be a force that opposes the real threat. Why would thawn presumably know who his killer was? It looked to me that he was familiar with the person or thing that destroyed him. I still say that it might be the superboy prime version of the time trapper. Manhattan wouldnt change time or reality because his mind and body co-ops the past, present and future and any changes he makes wouldnt affect him because he's the one constant in time that can not be changed or broken. He has nothing to gain by breaking time, and he isnt a being that would plan and scheme, his consciousness is god like, he would just do and get it over with.

Rob I love your Channel and you're completely awesome man! I wanted to put a thought in your head. Ozymandias worked with dr. Manhattan in Watchmen to copy his energy signature to aid the global power shortage. What if Ozymandias or another of the Watchman has learned how to copy Dr. Manhattan's power and has used it to mess with the timeline. Everything seems to point to Dr. Manhattan being the one who did all this, but that feels too obvious. It feels like misdirection. It could still be true, but it would be a more shocking twist that someone is using his power to mess with the DC Universe. As I said, just a thought. keep up the good work my friend!

My pet theory for the time being is that the Legion of Super Heroes villain Time Trapper is behind all of this. Could be the Superboy Prime version but I'm hoping for the older version instead for a bit more of the 'legacy' that they like to keep using in Rebirth. With Manhattan's talk of time and Trapper's ability to create pocket dimensions, it feels like a solid bet, only time will tell. I loved The Button comics as a whole, but I really would prefer to get to the actual main storyline here. the drip feed is driving me a bit mad.
