Please be sure to take a very deep breath, because this is going to be a looonng, HUGE-ass comment! Withoutn further ado, let's-a go: I've never seen anyone come up with these challenges of avoiding a condition in SMS, but there are 5 different speedruns of SMS that i've come-up with and don't know if they exist yet: 1. Pre-Bianco: it starts off as a Pre-Peach speedrun! Once the player collected 25 Shine Sprites + 39 Blue Coins, defeat the Muddy Piranha Plant. Then, instead of freeing Princess Peach by spraying Shadow Mario in Delfino Plaza, collect 2 Blue Coins that spawn by cleaning up a pair of 2 X-Graffitis in DP, with one of them drawn in Grand Pianta Statue's wall. After that's done, pull-off literally 11 times that infamous Sirena-early clip, and collect eleven shines + 30 Blue Coins from Sirena Beach. Once that course is complete, end this playthrough by doing that Piplup-backjump, in which Delfino Plaza's Blue Coin that requires Turbo-nozzle can be collected early. The reason this blue coin should be saved for the end is because the player will be completely trapped inside that breakable door and Mario can't even die nor exit area, only way to escape it is resetting the game AFTER SAVING. 2. Pre-Ricco & Pre-Gelato: A continuation to Pre-Bianco, except in this case, collect all 11 Bianco Shines, 2 Delfino Shines that require ground-pounding all crates before timer runs out, 28 Bianco Blues, 4 Fruit-Basket Blues. If the challenge ends during this segment, the player will have to avoid killing the Inky/Oiled-Piranha Plants at all cost. Additionally, this would lead to 49 Shine Sprites + 104 Blue Coins. 3. Pre-Noki, Pre-Pinna or Pre-Honey: A continuation of Pre-Ricco&Pre-Gelato. Starting here, doubly collect 11 Shines + 29 Blue Coins in both Ricco Harbor and Gelato Beach, for a grand total of 71 Shines & 162 Blues (or 87 Shines + 2 Blues if you pay up all Blue Coins that the player has obtained so far). 4. Pre-Yoshi: You are not allowed to unlock Yoshi until you collect the Shine Sprite that ends this challenge (being Pinna 4). Collect all 71 Shine Sprites & 162 Blue Coins from the previous challenge, except now in this case, you are officially allowed to let Shadow Mario's Bowser-Boat head towards Pinna Island, meaning you can finally have access to Noki Bay. Collect 11 Shines & 30 Blues from Noki Bay (a level which surprisingly never uses Yoshi). After that, go to Delfino Plaza's eastern islet that contains a green warpipe, but in this case, you're gonna find a Yellow Bird that spawns 1 new Shine Sprite, once the player sprays it for the first time. Then, you are allowed to enter Pinna Park, but the player will only be allowed to complete half of the challenges in this area. Complete Pinna1, Pinna2, Pinna2-secret, Pinna100s, Pinna3, and additionally collect 27 Blue Coins that DON'T require eating blue Butterflies. This would ultimately lead to 88 Shine Sprites + 219 Blue Coins. To put an end to this segment of a challenge, there are two more things to do at last. First, go to the Raccoon/Tanooki's House and pay them all the ten Blue Coins that you already obtained. After your Shine-counter increases to say 109 Shines + 09 BlueCoins, go to Pinna Island to complete episode 4. As soon as the player completes Pinna4, DON'T click anything OTHER than Save&Quit. That's right, soon as Pinna4 is da 110th Shine Sprite to be obtained, immediately Save&Quit so that this speedrun-challenge can be legitimately considered a Pre-Yoshi challenge in which unlocking him is the one condition the player must avoid when collecting as many Shine Sprites as possible. 5. Pre-Corona: SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO NOTE OUT is that unfortunately, the player can't resume the 3rd & 4th segments of these speedrun ideas in order to achieve the 5th one. Instead, the player must go back to a save-file where the player has a current of 49 Shines + 104 Blues. In this case, the only NEW condition that the player MUST AVOID is, beating Gelato7. That's right! Whatever the player does, don't ever complete Gelato7 in a Pre-Corona challenge until the player reaches the end of it. Because in this challenge, you need to obtain 115 Shine Sprites + 09 Blue Coins while Corona Mountain is LOCKED. Doing this requires the Gelato-skipping method to give the player early-access to Gelato8 without unlocking Corona Mountain, which means and/or implies that all of the Pre-Airstrip & Pre-Corona Shines can be collected before the Delfino-flood occurs. This means that Pre-Corona would be a speedrun that ends with the last/final Shine Sprite to obtain being 116th, which is that Shine Sprite the player earns for defeating Shadow Mario in Gelato7. Man, was that a LOTTA writing, huh! Anyway, since this comment was too ridiculously long, I ain't gonna extend my details any further, so I just wanna know which challenge that i've came up with is your most favorite of them all. i remember i went back to this game with my brother. i beat it, with his help on SOME levels...mainly when i got to the point of i was basically dead...or died when i was so close to done....but then i was like....can i access...the last lot of levels....straight of the bat? so we went to the shine tower...and just...backflip/wall jump/fly....twice...and we got on the top...the only thing that stops you..is the Yoshi level..it doesn't give you the egg because you haven't unlocked Yoshi yet.
