Tea from the #inviting locals. Hospitality is parents of grown children and specifically their grand children, wanting to see them leave and take care of each other, rather than rely on parents raising a second or third generation. Please be sensitive to the kindness of men toward women. Hospitality is fickle men who divorce easily.

象棋Chinese Chess although it's closer to Shogi than western chess. And as for the tea while holding the cup also hold the lid as it filters any stray leaves that might go into the sip. :D

FromAshesToLashes , I eat tea. It's how I select which tea to drink. If you can not eat the leafs or petal or fruit, you should not be sipping the water. Choose Raw Coffee Beans, never roasted coffee. About the tea part... You actually drink with the lid ON the cup... There are two style you can go with... For the new comer to those lid cups, you pick up the whole cup by holding the rest plate that the cup set up on with your off hand, then you pick up the lid with your main hand, you then push the tea leaves in the cup back with the lid (do this couple of times, as it will cool down the surface of the tea a bit and make it easier to drink), that will create a tiny pocket of leave-free tea for you to sip away. And once you are more used to those lid cups, you can pick up the cup just with just one hand (without the rest plate), then hold the top part of the lid with your thumb and index finger, and with the 3 other fingers holding the cup, you then tilt the lid to push the tea leaves back, and you can sip away...

Strongly suggest you to spend a few days visiting Chongqing, only 80 minuets by railway from Chengdu. Chongqing’s amazing night view, unique landscape with mountains and rivers, and authentic hot pot are worthy to come.

Hi,Poppy! I am a huge fan of you from Tsinghua University. Sichuan people love spicy food mainly because the climate is very humid their, and it can be freezing cold during winter. People eat spicy food to keep warm. Chengdu is also known for its beautiful women because the wet weather there is good for their skin. I recommend you to visit Hangzhou someday. It is a city known for its rich culture and convenient life. And it is the headquarter of Alibaba!

Since Sichuan Province is an extremely humid climate and in traditional Chinese medicine, humid climates advocated for spicy dishes. The Sichuan peppercorn has this numbing sensation in the mouth and that's meant to take the humidity out of your mouth. It's definitely harder to eat the spicy food in the summer, but in the winter months the spicy numbing feeling feels really cool.

Another recommendation to do while in Chengdu, go to some of the clubs for the nightlife. If you want to see great underground clubs go to Funky Town, Taiga, Soho, Jia Bar (My favorite), Tag, and Nox. Jia bar is a reggae bar where they do jam sessions for hours on end, Tag is a club on top of a huge apartment complex, and Funky Town plays a mix of 80's and 90's tunes and modern club and hip hop hits. All of them I recommend going to.

Poppy, sight seeing is a basic level of travel. Cheng Du is a historical place. There are a lot of stories there. Learning those stories will make you go deeper in understanding Chinese culture, and it will make your travel more meaningful.

I suggest you travel to Guizhou, where there are more dangerous peaks, more rugged rivers, and unpredictable canyons. The natural scenery of Guizhou is very good. The food in Guizhou is a bit like Sichuan, but it's not as spicy and more sour.

I suggest you try some strong green tea, big leaves without flower pedals mixed, which will save you from hot pepper! And green tea should be made with water not too hot. I saw your morning tea already in yellow color, indicating the anti dioxides have been mostly damaged. And remember green tea is the best remedy for hot pepper, even the bottled ones will do. You will encounter much hotter foods in other southwest provinces!

Hi Poppy, You have hit the right note. Not familiar with any customs, just ask the locals, like the how to drink tea. Cheers. I was in Chengdu in 2016, and visited Jiuzhaigou, Huan Long, Mt. Emei, and the 🐼 Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. For other regions, try "Yulong Snow Mountain Tourist Centre", Lijiang. It will be a surprise for you. Btw, try wearing a Qipao, as you have the height. You should look elegant. Hahaha

6:23 You're supposed to drink the tea with two hands. One hand holds the cup, while the other one holds the lid covering the water surface, leaving just a tiny seam to allow water to come through. You tilt the cup and drink tea water that comes through the seam. This way all the tea leaves are filtered out.

I still remember how to play xiang qi 象棋 . Basically there will have consist the following: 5 soldier 兵 (bīng) 2 Cannon 炮 (páo) 2 Carriage 車 (che) 2 Horse 馬 (ma) 2 Elephant 象 (xiang) 2 Guard 士 (shi) 1 general 将 (jiang) or 帥 (shuai)

The most common mistake in making dumpling was to close up the edge in half circle. You need to start to close up from 2/5 of the circle to form a shorter inner arc and a longer outer arc.
