I have used the Spider Holster for a couple of years now and I love it. I have bought the dual system, with the extra clip, and I have no problem in walking around for hours with a Canon 1D mk IV + 70-200mm on one side and a 1D Mk IV + 24-105mm on the other. Very comfortable and very secure. Highly recommended.

Hey Glyn! I got mine back in August for my birthday...and I LOVE IT! I should have done it a LONG time ago. No more straps for me!!!
@glyndewis11 жыл бұрын
Sure thing mate...they do an attachment so you can have another lens on the belt too...I'm definitely getting it to add on.

Great review Glyn. Its something I've been thinking about getting. At the moment I use a twin sling type belt for 2 slrs, one with 24-105 and the other 70-200, at the end of the day my lower back is shot. I like the fact I can swap almost instantly between two focal ranges, I just hate the weight. Im wondering if I got one of these with something else attached to the belt to carry the other lens, or have two spider plates with both cameras?

It is always important to remember that any strap on device should fit securely and comfortably, and leave room for accessory attachments. Wait, that may have been intended for a different video. Great review.

If you are in a crowd is it easy to slide the strap around to the front to make it easier to move around?
@glyndewis11 жыл бұрын
Same for any strap I guess...just drape it over it; at least this way it gets covered unlike a strap where it's always on the outside.

I'm a belt and suspenders type of guy. Would you suggest adding a sling strap to the camera for additional safety. Also, do you have any lower back issues from carrying your camera on your hip for a long time?
@glyndewis10 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard Wise yeah a strap might be a good idea just to add a little additional safety whilst holding in your hand but as for lower back pain...not at all. This has made a HUGE difference to me; very comfortable indeed!

Thanks for the video and your comments. Another question if I can be so bold, did you ever try a Cotton Carrier which is a body holster?
@glyndewis10 жыл бұрын
No mate never tried one. Used to have a BlackRapid Strap but I don't like having the straps across my shoulders / front.

Looks OK for summer weather, what happens when you have more outterwear on like a jacket or winter coat on in cold temps..

how is it with a jacket on

Frank I don't use it now as this was so long ago. Remembering back...it would be a bit awkward with a jacket I reckon.

What about in the winter when you have a heavy coat on. How do you have access to your camera through all of those clothes?
@d3f4ult114 жыл бұрын
You put the belt on top of your coat or pants

Great review. I am looking into purchasing one of these. Do you find the belt a bit cumbersome or hot to wear? I am a woman that is only 5' tall and using camera straps and slings leaves my neck and back really achy by the time I come home from a photo walk. If I have a Nikon D800 with a 70-200mm lens, where would I mount the spider plate on .... the lens or body? Currently, I have my sling strap mounted on the lens plate vs the camera body for less strain on the camera body. Looking forward to hearing from you. The Spider Holster sounds like it would solve my problems with achy back/shoulder, as well as having my camera more secure by my side vs dangling around by my side. Thank you for great review. :)
@glyndewis10 жыл бұрын
The belt I find very comfortable and not got warm there or anything; definitely does the trick. If using a 70-200mm you could put the plate on the lens bracket but to be honest I'd rather get a pouch for it that they also make.
@takeme2urmac10 жыл бұрын
Glyn Dewis Hi, thank you for the quick reply. My concern is having too much weight hanging off my camera if the 70-200mm lens is mounted on the camera while it is on the Spider Pro. Isn't that why this lens came with the lens mount? So you can take the weight of the lens off your camera when it is on your tripod. Thanks again for your response.
@glyndewis10 жыл бұрын
takeme2urmac Sure attach it to the lens mount but this actual piece of kit isn't designed for that. I'm not sure but it would be worth checking to see if they have something suitable. Hands down though having the camera weight on the hips is v.comfortable. Hope that helps.

Is that plate that attaches to the camera heavy as my 5D III w/flash weight a lot so I don't want to add too much more weight. I like this system however, I probably will buy it. Thanks for the great review..

Hi Glyn, I'm seriously thinking about this, can i attach the clip belt version to the other side also? I daily work with two Canon 1dx mk 2's. Heavy gear normally for a guy in his very late 40's! who uses a 70-200 on one body and a 16-35 on the other? BTW, Great and informative stuff sir!

Great review, I bought a Chinese copy of this from a well known auction site for £30. It is incredibly well made, only cost £30. It's called Good Partner, which is a very silly name but it is a very well engineered item.
@rkaussner9 жыл бұрын
curlykale - I wouldn't buy the Good Partner knock-off since they are blatantly stealing the intellectual property rights of Spider Holster who holds international patents on the design, etc. Secondly, the Good Partner does not have the stainless steel insert that the newer version of the original Spider Holster has, the right-side belt adjustment, and other modifications which have been added over the past few years. Additionally, Good Partner will not back up their products as is the case with Spider Holster who consistently provide exceptional customer service.

Robert Kaussner I quite understand your views. I simply can't afford to buy a Spider Holster. In the UK they cost extra.....!

It looks really cool but this cowboy type of holster has a big disadvantage: when you grab the camera there is no longer any support, so you need to be extra careful not to drop it and I wouldn't risk that with my expensive gear.

Have you heard anything aboutt the Money Maker made by Hold Fast Gear? Would you for the Spiderholster or the Money Maker by Hold Fast? I'm looking for and accessible as sometimes I need to switch from photography to videography.
@glennsmooth12439 жыл бұрын
Any fear of fumbling and dropping your camera to the ground? Standard camera strap makes that impossible but with this it seems more risky. On the plus side it reduces the risk of pendulum swinging camera into obstacles.

Your arm will be hanging in front of the camera to space you out enough from walls and obstacles. Sitting down will be a problem, especially in a chair with arms. On an armless chair the camera can hang off in clear space unless the chair is super wide and you are super skinny. YMMV
@fw14215 жыл бұрын
Looks like a great product,IF you are thin and fit. If you are carrying a bit of weight and have lost your hips it will tend to pull your pants down and you’re constantly pulling your pants up.
@robmcgregor179811 жыл бұрын
It won't look so good compared to a strap if you drop the camera while actually using it though. Once its off your belt there is no secondary security to your own grip.
