The transition from flashback to present being done by him stopping his hat from falling off is actually genius. Strictly from a visual storytelling standpoint I can’t imagine many better ways to do that.

Will Eisner was a master storyteller with only pictures, and only used dialogue because that's the way people communicated with each other. There are dozens of pieces of Eisner's sequential art that told complete stories and not a single word was written in the story.

Me and my dad saw this opening day and I shit you not we were the only two in there. So the best part of the experience is how we got to snark our way through the entire thing.

I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people watching this movie. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this movie for Christmas in 2021 from his uncle, so we put it in the VCR and started watching. By the end of the week he watched it 24 times. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just sitting there blankly staring. So i decided to make a netflix account and get this movie to see if I could maybe watch alongside him. I loaded in the movie and it started playing. This movie has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This movie reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.

Yeah, I have the same reaction to The Spirit that, more recently, I had watching Neo Yokio on Netflix. I'm laughing constantly, but I have *no idea* whether I'm laughing WITH it or AT it. Everything happening is just so absurd that it's impossible to tell whether it's a deliberately ridiculous satire\parody, or a self-indulgent coke-fueled vanity project gone horribly wrong.

I don't think he made a bad Al Simmons. Just a bad Spawn due the that horrendous makeup and CGI. To tell you the truth The Spirit looks like a slightly better film than that theatrical Spawn film. At least Sam Burke and Twitch looked good for the 1 second of screen-time they had and I liked Wanda Blake and the daughter's actress's. Everything else was just really really bad.

So, I've never heard of the spirit before this, and I haven't looked into the spirit after this, but I believe what they're trying to show with the changes with the octopus from doctor to Nazi to samurai as well as the spirit going from narrating to monologuing as the spirit evolved as a comic.

Sin City took visual elements from the Spirit comics. Clearly Frank Miller grew up loving Spirit. Too much respect for the source material can suck all the joy from an adaptation.

You know aside from the main story involving Marvel Studios and Fox properties to interact with one another.
