The Spiritual War During the Crucifixion

Psalm 22 has been recognized by Christians as a psalm that predicts the crucifixion. However, there is a strange reference to "the bulls of bashan". I think that's a reference that the powers of darkness believed they had won, but Psalm 68, and as Paul quotes it in Ephesians, shows us that this is God's victory over these powers. Check this out!

Just a conjecture, but it could've been a preemptive setup by God to fool the spiritual evilness to think, "We defeated Jesus!" to keep them at bay until Christ's crucifixion was complete. In that moment, God laid the sins of the world upon Jesus without them knowing it. Again, just a conjecture. :)

@@silentonall I think you're onto something, bro. There are 2 references in scripture that "Christ was crucified before the foundations of the world." So the whole plan of the cross was agreed upon by the Father Son and Spirit before the world was even created. Throughout the OT and especially in the NT, we see Satan attempt to kill Jesus. Herod tried to kill the infant Jesus. The Pharisees tried to stone Him and throw him off a cliff. The temptation of Jesus in the wilderness was an attempt to derail him. The prayer in the garden was another attempt. Despite what people think, Jesus was not trying to get out of going to the cross. He was NOT seeking another way to fulfill the "plan". In the Psalm Heiser speaks about, the enemies of God are trying to kill Jesus and say "a vile disease has beset him." Blood is pouring out through his skin...that's a REAL disease indicating that the body is breaking down. But Jesus prayed earnestly for relief in order to make it to the cross...not avoid it! The beatings and the 40 lashes could have killed him, as it often did to others. But God protected Jesus and preserved him for the cross...as the Godhead originally planned.

Awesome. Our church had great sermon on the crucifixion. They pointed out the shallow teaching that is all about how it’s a terrible way to die and pointed to it being so much deeper. From the start of sermon I was wrestling with thoughts about it also being the conquering of the evil gods who were thinking they won.

Bashan Fat, fruitful, Numbers 21:33, a rich hilly district lying east of the Jordan, and between the mountains of Hermon on the north, and those of Gilead and Ammon on the south. The country takes its name from its soft and sandy soil. The famous oaks of Bashan (Isaiah 2:13 Ezekiel 27:6) have their modern representatives on the mountain slopes. It seems strange that in Scripture there is no notice of the wheat crops for which the country is in such repute today. Along with Carmel it stood for the fruitfulness of the land (Isaiah 33:9 etc.); and their languishing was an evident mark of God's displeasure (Nahum 1:4). The "bulls of Bashan" represent blatant and brutal strength (Psalm 22:12, etc.). The 30 pieces of silver was the price paid to the master of a slave if and when his slave was gored by an ox (Exodus 21:32). The slave’s death was compensated by the thirty pieces of silver. Bashan is in Syria and the Roman soldiers at Calvary were actually Syrian conscripts.

Yes, I think people confuse how involved Rome was in the actual crucifixion. As well as the destruction of Herod's temple-which was destroyed by conscripts from the provinces surrounding Judea. I don't necessarily think Islam will be around by the Great Tribulation, but the same Middle Eastern forces will play a part in the persecution of Israel.

Animal-like beings are a constant theme in ancient religion and even in modern ET/cryptid accounts. Are some heavenly beings the ‘animals’ of heaven? They were likely created before earthly animals. Did God create animals in their mage before He made man in/as His own image? Shedim/daemon could definitely be the disembodied spirits of the Nephilim. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t angels and other spiritual beings that are ‘demonic’. Evil beings might come in various forms because the rebellion started in the heavenly realms and made its way to earth. @Joeseph Walls sr, I agree. It doesn’t really matter much one way or the other, but think about how the Church is making known the manifold wisdom of God. I think the earthly realm may be a sort of ‘object lesson’ or illustration for those that dwell in the heavenly realms. It doesn’t belittle our existence, since Christ died for us, not them, but God reveals Who He Is through things like His creation, history, His interactions with created beings, and obviously through His Word. We know God likes to use symbolism. I just wonder if the symbolism isn’t pervasive and even layered throughout the universe in ways that would kinda melt our brains a little.

Given Caesarea Philippi is pretty much at the base of Hermon or half way up to Hermon. Do you guys think the whole 'On this rock I will build my church' is referencing Jesus' victory over Bashan. The rock, having visited Israel just over 10 years back, seems to be referencing the rock over the top of the Pan temple which is a foundational stone of Hermon itself. Really powerful stuff if so!

Roman legion X Fretensis (Bull emblem) was eventually HQ'd in Bashan but in 4BC they were sent to Judea to oversee the same census (Quirinus) that saw Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem .Many of X Fretensis ended up being stationed in Jerusalem where they were under the command of Pontius Pilate. While this explanation is fine, I think it's something else entirely. The Holy Spirit showed me a few years ago what this reference is. During the Passover, Pontius Pilate had to deal with a rise in Israeli patriotism and tensions ran high in Jerusalem during the week. There was no permanent full Roman legion stationed in Jerusalem, just auxiliaries to keep the peace. The nearest full legion was the 6th stationed in Damascus in Syria (Bashan) from 31 B.C. until 54 A.D., which was nicknamed "Ferrata" (Ironclad) and their mascot was the bull. At times when tensions in Israel ran high Pilate requested that the 6th legion would march down from Damascus to bolster security in the city. While Jesus was on the cross some legionaries from the 6th were the ones who drew lots for Jesus' garments and stood guard for the 6 hours it took for Jesus to die. The bulls surrounding him were the Roman soldiers from the 6th legion. You can verify this easily on Wikipedia by searching "Legio VI Ferrata" and scrolling down to the section "Two legions under Mark Antony and Octavian" and the very last line in this section. David prophesied exactly WHICH Roman soldiers would be at the crucifixion 1000 years earlier!

Very interesting. I had thought that the bulls and lions referred to the piercing (as a lion might pierce a hand or foot in one fending such a beast off. Whereas. the bull gores it's victim in the body.)

As a late youth into early adulthood, I was enamored with Nikos Kazantzakis and the both the book and film The Last Temptation of Christ. Dwelling more in the spirit is usually a demerit to a death sentence now. Maybe it is just my personal perspective, but the lensing is becoming harder and harder to deny. I did meet someone who I recognized in flesh as more a spirit mirror of clay. I hope she will be receptive to remote connection of the spirit, with an eye to managing being in flesh better than her people CAN give her. Time is the metric of knowledge we call wisdom, because it rarely is simply adopted without personal suffering.

I believe the first legitimate vaccine was for small pox. The guys who discovered it knew a woman who did not catch small pox because she had what they called "cow pox" which was similar but not as deadly. He sowed "cow pox" onto people as a prevention for small pox. Boom, first vaccine.

Bashan was known to be the best of the best: strongest and most fertile livestock, crops, trees, vineyards, armies, etc. When Jesus was crucified, He bore all the demonic tormentors that we deserved. All the torture, every stripe, and bruising was for our forgiveness and complete health, spirit, soul and body. Matthew 8:16,17. The Word had to come in human form, made a little lower than angels that are eternal spirit beings, so He could suffer and die for our sin. He defeated every demonic stronghold and restored dominion to His people. He did all that so we could be new creatures dwelling holy by His Spirit: resurrected and seated with Christ. THANK YOU LORD! Jesus is King with Father and all the angel armies. Trust God. Rest believing and you will win this battle because you are standing in Christ, far above every principality and power.
