Well, it would have been unthinkable until the Plandemic ... then the effects of Behavioural Insights Teams and Government spook narratives kicked in and we were watching Salem play out all over again. Marketing is exactly the same. There are always two main camps. In the case of these sippy cups, the brainwashed side who must have one at all costs and the predator side who've spotted an "opportunity" to scam the brainwashed ones. If it wasn't for various psychological experiments (eg Milgram, etc) we'd never have known the vast majority of the people are sheeples, joining in with the narrative, with only a few wondering WTH and a few are predators, waiting to pounce.

And it’s not even that they really care about the quality or function of a product as much as they will claim in an attempt to justify this mindless behaviour, they’re just following the masses of other people, unconsciously being puppets to psychological manipulation without even questioning why they care so much to fight people over something so trivial. These people will just as quickly throw away formerly coveted products in perfect condition which they currently have in their homes so they don’t appear to be hoarders or can claim to be minimalists while simultaneously shopping to excess and acting like they’re possessed to get the next fad product or brand. The wastefulness, not even mainly in Western culture anymore, it’s the entire world, is so out of hand and people will still waste their hard earned money on crap they don’t need, making literal mountains out of waste, destroying our own habitat we desperately need to survive as a species, not to mention the lack of concern for the other living creatures who are not willfully contributing to global extinction which share the planet. I’ll never understand. Although I did seriously feel I needed to have a Cabbage Patch Kid doll when I was a little girl, back when that was the fad. I worked two Christmases in retail, both during the biggest Covid spikes so we were understaffed. Someone threw a shoe at me and cussed me out for wearing a mask and adults had meltdowns over return policies. I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with idiots.

I swear something about the pandemic made people so much more obsessive over certain products. Any time there's perceived limited stock, there's a group of people hounding to take advantage of the situation, and desperate consumers validate these moves. We saw it with graphics cards, we saw it with game consoles, we saw it with PPE, we saw it with basic hygiene products, and now we're seeing it with these. It's making me want to find and read an academic study about the mentality behind these patterns of behavior

Can we also talk about how long it took the lady recording to care about the employee that was assaulted? Those cups were more important to her and clouded her ability to empathize with a person who just had a traumatic experience...

Yes I noticed she said she was assa ulted and the thieves grabbed at her bag and tumblers. She settled herself from that trauma (she said she was shaken) and then checked on the other victim. Of course she happen to be asking for another bag from the other victim. 🤫

My mother and I saw various vintage Stanley cups from the 1960s at a fleamarket, and I told her about the craze these tumblers were causing. She was bewildered, especially since she considers the Thermos brand the higher quality 😂 (She was a teacher in the 80s and used both the Stanley and the Thermos. She said that the Thermos did a better job keeping her hot drinks hot and her cold drinks cold.) EDIT: 15:11 That is the ugliest looking cup I've ever seen. We have nice tumblers at the house that were all gifts through work, so the consumerism craze for...anything... is foreign to me. However, I will say Stanley's branding and marketing team deserve an A+ on this. I have the green thermos and lunchbox my dad used for 35 years, but they found a whole new clientele to target, and using colabs on social media was brilliant. You can't fault the company for wanting to make money.

I still think the beanie baby craze of the nineties was one of the worst I have ever seen or been apart of. I was working at my local craft store when the shipment came in. There were grown adults pushing kids out the way, it was insane. The worst day was when the purple "Princess Diana" bears came in. All hell broke loose, I just stood at the cash register in complete and utter shock. That type of madness is traumatizing.

@@yolondawilliams5078 the Beanie Baby speculation bubble burst a long time ago in the early 2000's. They are completely worthless now, the plastic box to protect it are worth more than the Beanie Baby inside.
