We raise all we can…but we know the realities for us not being able to grow all we eat. We do great obtaining stuff and raising stuff…but hard to grow gardens! Looking forward to seeing how you do! Great job!

Reminiscent of the farm where my folks bought coffee, flower, sugar, and fresh fruit. Periodically Mom would check fruit jars. If something was suspicious she would dump ot in a 5 gallon bucket for the hogs. I was amused when fermented plums intoxicated the hogs. Thanks.

Never heard of this. Was just telling the hubs as we begin to lay out plans for the coming spring garden, we need to be certain we grow what makes sense and gets us through winter...we have so much stuff from this last summer we need to get through that we can avoid the grocery store for the most part, gotta have my coffee! Will certainly jump on board and use you guys for inspiration to get into the freezer and the cupboards! Thanks for sharing.

The goal of this challenge is to see what we animals we can raise, veggies we can grow, items we can forage, and how to barter/trade. With your garden, think about all you can grow and preserve (or hold til Feb). With our chickens, we've got a good source of protein. When our garden is really producing, we can throw away a LOT of items for winter. I'm hoping we can really keep our spending to almost zero, even with our garden having issues. Keep us posted on how you're doing! Cheers!

I nearly forgot about the strawberries! I bet they will show up again this year just before the month is out. I’m glad you got some meat. We know how miserable it is without it. It'll be nice to have you onboard next year! The dairy part is our weak link. Last year we spent some money on milk and a small amount of cheese. Towards the end of the month we traded eggs for a gallon of milk. This is something we need to work on! Thanks for stopping by!!

We forgot about this! Did a big haul from Sam's Club/Aldi's yesterday. 🤷‍♀️ We are currently on a Keto diet so we probably couldn't do this anyway since we need so much fresh veggies. Maybe next year. But, would you be willing to email me your bloody mary mix recipe? I have a bunch of tomatoes in the freezer that I need to get out and get canned. We were just looking for a good bloody mary recipe.
