Such a lovely idea for a vlogmas series! How am I only today years old when I discovered Horse Rangers?! Would've loved this as a kid! Sue seems like an old school yard owner legend!

Gosh. I started my riding journey at 10 yrs old. I was a South London kid, and my Dad used to drive me out into the country to a large hotel that had a golf course and riding stables attached to it. My lessons began on a massive 17hh draft horse named Elijah. He was tied up outside the stable and the instructor told me to wait there while she went off to get something. This 10yr old had read every book she could about how to ride, and by the time the instructor came back, I was up and on board Elijah, much to her shock. I was very tall, like you Lucy but I don't remember how I got up there! From that moment on I was addicted to horses. My Dad faithfully drove me every single Sunday morning to those stables and I went there for years. If we went on holiday, we had to find a riding stables so that I could ride while we were away. Oh boy I so wish I had been able to take part in something like the Horse Rangers. That would have been my idea of heaven, I have to say. I never did get to have my own horse, but now I work with dogs and so I guess that's kind of second best.❤ I can no longer ride anyway due to physical issues, but I live that part of my life vicariously through yourself and Meg now and always look forward to the videos you both produce. ❤❤❤

I love your idea for Vlogmas, and really enjoyed this first trip down memory lane. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. I was also a very horsey child stuck in a non-horsey family. Every Christmas, I was sure I would find a pony under the tree. After many years of riding, I've just got my own horse at the age of 51. My childhood dream has finally come true!

Lucy, you really made me smile. I was a horse ranger at HQ Hampton Court. It's so nice to see someone else who started riding the same way.😊

What a sweet idea for vlogmas, and what a cool program!! I would've loved to have been able to participate in something like that as a kid.

Same! Ive ALWAYS loved horses & was able to get a mustang as a teenager. Then college & family interrupted. I was able to share my passion for horses with my oldest daughter & enjoyed watching her love bloom. She's now an adult & owns her first thoroughbred ! Now that I'm an empty nester I've returned to riding & am eagerly looking forward to my first purchase. Thanks for sharing your journey.

I loved this! Wonderful seeing this type of program for kids! Reminds me of my Pony Club back in the 60’s! We learned everything about horses and horse care from the ground up! Loved it and gave such a good foundation for my riding career!

Loved this! Brilliant! I started riding about the same age as you did. Remember my first stables @ Epsom Downs that were then owned by a Michael Haynes/Haines? Now owned by Michael Attwater and the place has hardly changed very much. They do have traffic lights crossing the road these days to the Downs which I wish we had, had. Thanks to you, Meg, Tina, Emily, Justine & Charlotte Cooper I plucked up courage to contact my former Dressage trainer. Her name is Anthea Chambers of Wildwoods Riding Centre who has taken me down memory lane and for sure taught me how to try and not break my neck. I truly think she is the only one & reason for visiting the UK now. Can't wait for you next Vlog. P.S. not a plug and there are not many used ones available but her Mum, Justine Dowley-Wise wrote an amazing book called Legs! Legs! Legs! (I got a copy for my 60th). In it are three of the great equines I trained on.

What a fun look back at your time in what is obviously a wonderful organization for young horse lovers to learn how to properly care for and ride ponies/horses. Even though I grew up with horses I still would have enjoyed being a Riding Ranger. Thanks Lucy!

That was wonderful, it brought back my wishing for a horse every Christmas and birthday. Rushing down to the barn only to discover the was no pony or horse. I did not understand the economics of owning/feeding/farrier/veterinarian bills of a pleasure horse.
