The manifold vs. load balancer top-down visual was fantastic! You can clearly see how a manifold will priority load the first splitter, leading to the one line with significantly more resources. Conversely, the load balancer completes the vignette with 10 iron plates in each of the five lines. Well done!
@tabularasa78Ай бұрын
So? Both methods have equal effectiveness. Because the 1st priority belt will be full in a while and the second one will receive more... It doesnt affect production output and energy consumption. So you can clearly see the difference, that doesn't matter.🤔

For coal, there is a third option for connecting power; once the piplelines and convayer systems are setup and connected to the power plants, provide power to the miners and water extractors and let them saturate the power plants. THEN connect the power plants to the grid - instant full capacity.
@deejerman86Ай бұрын
I did this exact thing today and it made the power plant startup so much easier.
@devonrule1412Ай бұрын
Minor optimization note - because overclocking increases power usage exponentially, it's always more efficient to spread out your power shards. Two miners at 150% would use less power than having one at 100% and one at 200%.
@KVPMDАй бұрын
But also 2 shards instead of one (which is a thing at the start)
@majtravien4381Ай бұрын
@@KVPMD You would still need 2 shards to OC one miner to 200%. It's 2 shards in either scenario, one just needs less power than the other.
@feronanthus97562 сағат бұрын
overclocking does not exponentially increase power usage. the relevant term in the equation is (clock speed)^1.32. if it were exponential growth clock speed would be in the exponent. power usage is between linear and quadratic growth (which is, once again, not exponential growth).

Some feedback for you from a long-term viewer: Really informative video. The slow pace and long length work well. The little hints and tips that the game doesn't show you are really helpful to new players (and I never knew about the bright white!) Showing how to build the logistics is something that needs to be showcased as this is often the biggest headache for players - both transporting from the vein and the factory floor. Having the decorations section at the end is the right place and keep that section relatively simple and succinct as it is very subjective. Thanks for all your efforts. 🏭

I also noticed that power shards use less power (e.g., if you're OC'ing a coal miner on an impure node to reach 60 ore/min) than dropping a Mark 2 miner, which also will give you 60/min on an impure node.

As a relatively new player (50 hours) the game is overwhelming at times - but fun. Currently I'm in the process of tearing down my base (again) to organise for the next phase - computer parts and advanced oil processing. Still learning a lot and figuring out how to get a functional factory that's scalable. Watching videos like this helps a lot - mostly with learning how to use space effectively and not bunch things up too tightly.

Many hours have just been many tearing down and redesigning my starter area. Really appreciating these are a new player! One suggestion I would like to make is if you could add more explanation for some of the manufacturing beyond base level. An example is caterium. There are only 17 nodes around the map, so not a lot compared to other early resources like copper that has 55, and you have to explore well away from the starting areas to find them. Explaining why you want it - to get AI limieters, to get smart and programmable splitters and what those do for you - would be helpful so I can know how much to prioritize it. And eventually how it'll be needed for highspeed connectors and all those do for you. In my playthrough so far, I slept on caterium WAY longer than I should have. Hopefully we can see that in some of the transport-related episodes as that's where I'm getting hung up now.

Personally I have started building 18 biofuel generators. Its easy to load balance and your consumption is proportion to production, so I simply update the input belt to mk2 if the machines are starving. However, simply attaching two storages as a buffer makes this never really necessary. But this was a great example of a more complicated load balance

Around 1:35:00 or so you mention the 4m foundation stacks (ribs) look like Duracell batteries. For a little tip that I personally enjoy using, I find these kinds of pillars to be really good to remove once you've placed exterior covers over them, and THEN you can fill the space with literal batteries once you're done for hidden power storage. Might not be everyones cup of tea, but I hate that power grid dying sound more than anything. 😂
@swb1410Ай бұрын
I know you like to load balance your power, however for biomass up to 12 at least, it's not necessary. Also, you can cut the space usage almost in half if you build it properly. I like to do input->3 way split->A line of 2 splitters off of each initial arm, 2 left, 2 forward, 2 right. This way each arm of the splitter isn't cut so many times that it becomes an issue, and you can fit 12 burners in a 5x5 grid. 12 burners in roughly 25 squares, as opposed to 15 burners in 40-50 squares. If you did 2 of my design side by side, you get 24 burners in roughly the same amount of space, with no efficiency issues.

The large truck last time I checked actually can help with more throughput than a train cart can, also I think it's pretty fun to. Make fuel. Stations and just bring my world to life with trucks going about between the various stations and the trains of. Makes it feel less empty, also trains can very quickly become a lot more complicated than the trucks too so I tend to make highways with trucks 😂
@TotalXclipseАй бұрын
@@redhawkrobin the issue with train and trucks is that their stations and stops have two outputs so both systems are limited by that, the difference between trucks and trains is you can always add another station on to the end of a train station to increase the throughput - if you do this for trucks they'll work until you get close and then will keep colliding with oneanother. For small amounts of resources, it doesn't matter though.

I'm not even close to an expert or experienced at this.... but does that load balancer actually work 100% correctly? When you split the 3rd output from the right Splitter back into the inputs of the two Splitters (itself and the left one) doesnt the right splitter now re-share that item across all 3 lines again? I'll use numbers to explain better:- if 6 things are sent to the "extra" output of the right splitter, 3 go left and 3 go back into the right.... so now one of the 3 in the right gets re-shared. Then that gets split and the 1/2 in the right go gets 1/3 (so 1/6th) re-reshared...etc.etc. So left gets an extra 1/2 + 1/6 + 1/18 + 1/54.... which is roughly 0.6. And right gets roughly 0.4. So for every 36 sent through the system, left gets 18.6 and right gets 17.4. In order for the balance to be 100% true, the extra split has to go back to the very start (ie before the very first split into left and right, so it can be evenly sent left and right). That way every extra 1/6 is re-split equally left and right every time. I really want a maths expert to show me where I am wrong! EDIT - I guess a way to tell is to build it (unpowered) and put through an exact amount and see whats at the end... Off to do it now 8) Well, I'm clearly no maths genius, because I did the set up and sent 2400 through, and it correctly sent 480 to each leg. So let this post be a lesson to other wannabe losers like me!
@tomhardie5115Ай бұрын
This is what I was thinking as watching it. You Need to send them back to the start
@gamer61k3Ай бұрын
You're just getting the distribution wrong. The input is being split two ways, to the left and right hand mergers. The loop back is also being split the same way, so each merger output will be equal. With loop back, the distribution will converge. Using numbers, if the input is 5, then each side will initially get 2.5, The loop back is a third of the right hand side, 2.5 / 3 = .8333... and each merger gets a half of this so each merger output will be 2.5 + .41666... = 2.9166... The next iteration will give a loop back of .97222... and each merger output 2.98611... . Repeat a few times and each merger output approaches 3 so that each output split and the loop back are 1 and give a 1 to 5 load balancer.
@TotalXclipseАй бұрын
100% get the confusion - thanks for updating with your sciencing, you can send it to the start but if you're putting exactly 60 into the start of the balance and your max belt level is MK1 you can feed the resources back to the start but won't have the throughput to feed the extra back into the line - hence the splitting the excess 50/50 into each leg

So, right now I just unlocked aluminum production. So I am looking forward to watching that show so I can learn how to do it. One complaint I have about Satisfactory is that you can't see what recipes are ahead. This is my first full playthrough and it is very frustrating not knowing what will be needed for the future products. Any advice?

half the game is refactoring what you have already built, or building factories elsewhere, to meet new supply demands. even if you know whats coming you don't have the technology upgrades to plan ahead at the start

@@dns-n8u re building is not efficient. And the game is supposed to be about efficiency. If I know how many motors I will need till the endgame, or smart plating, the. I would design lines that would supply those numbers. As it is know I don't know what is going to be used when and how much. That's not efficient.
