Ephemeral Rift

Ephemeral Rift

Жыл бұрын

In this month's episode I share my personal experience, stories, and analysis of how I used to steal and shoplift as a young teen and (young) adult, and how I eventually stopped & outgrew that behavior. Towards the end of the video I delve into thoughts about the mental health, economic, and societal reasons as to why people commit crime, whether it's a misdemeanor or worse.

Most explosive tempers come from people who hold in their emotions for a long time, appearing calm, but then letting it all out at once. So really, it makes sense.

I was the exact same around 12-13 I stole from different stores and friends as well so I definitely understand this, and also now would never dream of doing this. Something about that age is just rebellious regardless of upbringing, I did a lot of other things that make me cringe thinking of them now as well. Luckily you aren't defined as a person at that age and still have the chance to grow and learn from your mistakes. It's a good thing because I feel like a lot of us weren't good people at that age💯

Saw the title of this and it made me think back to my shoplifting days with my brother. It's wild that was 12 years ago. We used to shoplift little stuff but eventually escalated to where he stole a board game (and got away with it). Then I snitched on him because a board game seemed expensive back then in comparison to a couple candy bars or energy drinks etc. Our dad went back to the shop, paid for the board game, and gave it to my brother for his 18th birthday (it was an "adult" game).

I, too, have an explosive temper. I've found it really only rears its head when someone is trying to mess with me or disrespect/harm me in some way. 99.9% of the time, I'm super chill and relaxed, and I'll be the nicest person you'll ever meet. But if you try to get on my bad side just for meanness, I instantly go into a white-hot rage, and it's EXTREMELY hard to control myself...

Thanks so much for everything you share in these videos, I think we all appreciate that you don't hold back and share some difficult truths. I relate a lot to much of what you put out there. Keeping in theme with this video, I often find myself going back to your "you can only be better than your former self" video from a while back. Watching this over again now, it really makes me want the next episode about his possible IED. Having severe depression and anxiety, which have been unhealthily coped using IED in the past, and with things having been really bad recently and those urges coming back, medicine be damned, it helps listening to Uncle E share his stories of his weathered past. Love you, E, and just want to say thank you for all the sleepless nights you've helped with your calming voice and soothing, if cynical, attitude.

I started with candy... Then makeup... And finally The Big Time: jewellery. I was going to be a Master Thief. It was the damn Woolworth's jewels that betrayed me, I got greedy and stole not just one Set of 5 Earrings for $7.99 but two Sets of 5 Earrings for $7.99 (It was buy one get one free but that offer didn't apply to stealing.) The security chased me through the mall, I thought I lost his rather hefty butt but he found me in the bathroom of Square-Pan Pizza hiding like a scared rat. I got busted my dad was furious, the whole ordeal was humiliating. Regretfully, I had to retire from being The World's Greatest Jewel Thief at 15 years old.
