I have had a the D Brand Killswitch v2 for a while and I have never liked it, to be honest. The main thing being that, even with no skin on the case, it does not quite fit right and I find that the case is slightly loose on the top right side. (This happened on 2 cases in a row.) Additionally, the extra weight was a deal breaker for me. Which is strange, I have giant hands and thought the killswitch would help a lot, but I found that the killswitch made it less comfortable not more for my big hands. I really like the joystick covers and the hardshell cover of the d brand case though. Good grip and lift on the joysticks, and very good protection on the dbrand travel cover. I may give JSAUX a try, but I am starting to think I am just running best with Vanilla.

Honestly the fact that the USB is exposed with the plate on is a BIG pro in my book for the JSUAX. I'm not really worried about dust or lint going in there (not that the KS would even really prevent this). The point of the case is to protect the system from scratches, add some grip, and most importantly - give you a way to cover the screen. The fact that the JSUAX one does this without making it impossible to plug in is fantastic. I'm still not entirely sold on the idea of this style of case (vs keeping it in a clamshell and using it bare), but I think if I were to try one it would be the JSUAX for sure.

kinda does suck for some people. the 1tb model oled case has a removable inner sleeve that makes it take up less space, that ones definitely a bit better, but to say it doesn’t suck is subjective. it takes up a lot of space for what it is and it’s not particularly well designed

The Dbrand kickstand also has an SD card holder built into it. I actually like the free Steam case - I would trust it over any of the plastic cases in a drop test - the loose cover on the JSAUX is a deal-breaker in this regard. I use the back 'void' of the Steam case to store the power brick (or a power bank if I am out of the house). I've been tempted to buy the Dbrand Killswitch but the environmentalist in me is saying the free case is fine and I don't need an extra piece of plastic like the Dbrand or JSAUX case.
@Lord_Edox
@Lord_Edox Жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you. I have had no issues with my free case. I have a bag it fits in, and it does its job. I have a dock for when my deck is out at home and it is small enough to take with if I need. A solution here not talked about is just get a bigger bag to take with you. Both of these seem like they need to be combined to get the features they both should have. I don't want my Deck having more on it as it is heavy enough as it is. And like you said I totally trust the free case in a drop test vs both of these.

I went with the jsaux. A bit concerned about the loose cover. Think I’ll just use that for home when I set it down for extra protection. I think I’ll buy the tomtoc case for travel and to save space. Still would have spent less money than just buying the killswitch I travel everyday. I drive a semi truck locally so the steam deck goes with me on a daily basis so the space saving is a huge deal for me

Nice review and comparison. I appreciate you didn't include a bunch of extra fluff just to fill time. How do the kickstands compare in quality and how much you'd trust them? The kickstand and cover are the two main reasons I'm interested in these. Seems like Killswitch wins on the cover with the trigger protection but not sure about the kickstand.
@overkillwtf

Thanks first of all. As for the kickstand, I think the dbrand one is a bit more versatille. I don‘t think any of the two is less stable, but the killswitch stand has more range and microSD slots.

@@overkillwtf I used the universal mount and with 3d builder I merged that to a Go Pro adapter bracket. That allowed me to mount the steamdeck to an old Go Pro armature so I could be lazy and have it carry most of the weight of the steamdeck. You could also just print the universal joint and then use one of the quick release 3m mounts to stick to it and do the same.

The weight is similarish. So much so, that I didn‘t really perceive a difference. As for grip, I‘d say both are grippy with the dbrand one being slightly more so, which may be due to the fact it feels a bit higher quality!

Got the Jsaux ModCase in January/February 2023 and it still works great on the LCD Steam Deck, which is why I also bought it for the OLED one. It's much easier to carry around as I can just put the front cover on and chuck it into the middle compartment of my backpack (along with other mid-size tech). Fit-wise: The fit is tight, no wobble (on both the old and new case) and it works with Dbrand KillSwitch skins exactly how the KillSwitch itself would. Weight-wise: 773g with the ModCase + SD OLED combo (without the metal kickstand) and 820g with the metal kickstand attached. As far as the info online goes, the KillSwitch combo ends up at up to 839g (without the kickstand). All in all, the ModCase seems like a much better value for the money (lighter and much cheaper while doing the same job if you'll put it in a backpack BUT will probably offer less drop protection than the KillSwitch).

If not the weird tomfoolery of rubber button covers + front case not even hiding the buttons at all as well as the triggers then I'd be sold and go with JSaux, but the price difference is big so I'll definitely miss out DBrand.... Thanks for the video. I wouldn't get Dbrand's because I'd need to take the case off just to dock it on Valve's dock. I dock and undock it at least once a day. I wouldn't get the other one either, because I love how beautiful the deck is with the Dbrand internals skin, plus I don't want to make the thing any bulkier, however I would like a more textured grip on the back. Perhaps a grip skin? Plus, there is no carrying strap on either of those. I usually don't take a backpack, and hold it with the strap that's on the current case. That's a deal breaker too. I'll just stick with the current case and save my money, perhaps for a power brick :p
