This song reminds me of my daddy. Before he passed when he was sick he used to always say, “ I’m so old I can’t do nothing”. When I heard this song it instantly made me think of daddy. He was also a Christian and whil I’m not a religious man I was there when daddy took his last breath and I believe from his reaction he saw an angel come into that room to escort him to glory. I love this song bc it reminds me of my hero, my dad, Gary Smith.

Thanksgiving day of 2020 my mom was sitting next to me after we had finished dinner. It was a beautiful, sunny, warm day in TX. She said that she thought she had been around long enough. 4 days later she woke up, had breakfast, visited with the nurse and wanted to lay down for a nap. She was fond of naps. The moment her head hit the pillow she had a massive stroke and that was the end of her great adventurous life on earth. Now she lives a glorious life where rainbows never die.

So what i love about this song is the heart of it. My dad has been debilitated with Parkinson's. My cousin who i haven't seen in 8 years just visited and told me the struggles of her father with Alzheimer's. I sent this to her telling her it made me think of my pop, and she might find the same for her. She messaged back saying she's been bawling and it's beautiful, i couldn't agree more. This song hits hard, and I'm so grateful these talents came together and made something that speaks straight to the soul

lyrics I'm an old man now, I can't do nothing Young folks don't pay me no mind But in my day I sure was something Before I felt the heavy hand of time I'm an old man now, I'm bound for glory Time to lay these burdens down Had enough of this old world Of worry Gonna trade my troubles for a crown I will make my way across the fields of cotton And wade through muddy waters one last time And in my dreams I come out clean When I reach the other side West of where the sunsets Where rainbows never die I've got on last thing to do One more mile before I'm through Casting off these earthly chains Going where there's no more pain I will make my way across the fields of cotton And wade through muddy waters one last time And in my dreams I come out clean When I reach the other side West of where the sunsets Where rainbows never die I'm an old man now, can't do nothing Young folks don't pay me no mind
