Incapable of metal? W R O N G. I think we forget just how neutered old rock amps used to be; really having to dig into the strings to get more saturation... this little guy is a beast! Definitely more capable than just rock and clean. Engl has to be in my top three amps for consistent build and tonal quality, and the Mini Morse is no exception! Great video, dude!
@lostinpa-dadenduro75554 ай бұрын
Yep. I remember. Then I got the 5150 when it first came out and it was like Woah! Before that it, for me, could be a struggle with other amps to find the combo of stuff to get me there.
@robvoylesАй бұрын
old rock amps weren't neutered, they were just the sound of the time, that's the beauty of the changes of music through the years, not all amps need to be heavy metal monsters.

The Ironball SE is a phenomenal platform (so much so I'm selling my Helix floor, this is a viable replacement). This guy sounds great for that pushed overdrive/rock tone but noticeably tamer than the SE, which I think has it's place in the ENGL lineup. Phenomenal demo tracks, you really made this thing shine!

Sounds fantastic recorded. I agree with what you're saying. It got dark really quickly when you pulled back the treble, and that brief moment with max treble sounded awesome. Max treble was probably rough in the room but it sure worked with the mic haha. It handled the lower tuned guitar really well. I wouldn't buy this for the really aggressive metal tone that I love, but it does a great hard rock / metal tone nevertheless

@@melodicmetal2155 It can do metal very well if you go the lead channel, but as Jon said in the video right after I typed my comment. It's a REALLY dark sounding amp. And I'm more used to a standard EVH 5150 Stealth. They are very different voiced amps. It's all preference tho.

Other than the difference with the Presence control, is it all that different from the Ironball SE? What would make someone pick the SM over the SE? Other than being a fan of Steve Morse, what would be the point of spending an extra $150? As always, a GREAT demo. EDIT - Steve Morse is on my Mt Rushmore of guitarists. I saw him back in the 90's (with Dave LaRue on bass and I think Van Romaine on drums) and it was jaw dropping. I went to his guitar clinic before the show and he was so easy going and humble. Truly a highlight of my life.

The morse is a thicker sounding amp, with a more smooth top end, better suited for leads

@@SonicDriveStudioWhilst I can tame my SE to sound similar to this amp. I dont see it the otherway around. The amp is voiced too dark to ma taste. It was aparent when hearing the mic'ed can which is my preferred way of recording but this sounded worse then your IRs. I also like glassy cleans the SE can do.

Why not demo the internal load and IRs? I feel like that's a pretty big oversight on your end.

Comparing this amp to the Ironball SE which one is more diverse , can the Morse 20 keep up with the SE for metal tones ? , also what’s your take on the presence knob being on the opposite channels of these 2 amp heads what are the pros and cons with this . Unfortunately I like both smooth and warm and aggressive metal characteristics, So it’s hard to decide Not having the opportunity to play them both side by side.
