Hi everyone, good to see Pete's feeling better! So, today's story follows on from yesterday and an evening in Iain's Front Room where we were treated to an album by Paul, a friend of one of the regulars who only joined us once in a while as metal wasn't really his thing - he was more into stuff like The Smiths, and his favourite guitarist was The Edge from U2. Anyway, he joined us on this occasion and brought a couple of things round, and this one has stuck with me, because it made me smile and, once or twice, laugh out loud, despite, musically, not being my thing at all. This was the debut album by a four-piece band from Liverpool (no, not that one, although the album title is obviously a reference) and the humour derived from both sardonic references to social issues, but also referencing British popular sport and culture and I admit this will mean that a lot of this album's finer points will go over the heads of most non-Brits, so apologies... "Back In The DHSS"by HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT Just the band name made me smile at the time, and song titles like "99% Of Gargoyles Look Like Bob Todd" (one of Benny Hill's sidekicks on his TV Show), "F#@*in' 'ell It's Fred Titmuss" (an English cricketer of the 50s and 60s) and "The Len Ganley Stance" (about an English snooker referee) were like nothing else I'd come across at the time. The standout track for me though was their take on "Time Flies By When You're The Driver Of A Train", reworking a song from classic 70s children's TV show Chigley into a tale of drugs and soccer hooligan rivalry between Chigley and fierce rivals Camberwick Green. The band's debut EP, "The Trumpton Riots" had been about a similar programme... The band were huge football fans, even turning down an opportunity to appear on the prestigious BBC Chart show Top of the Pops because it clashed with a home game for their beloved Tranmere Rovers, the 3rd best team in Liverpool. Sorry if this story has been utter gibberish for most of you, but I thought I'd tell it anyway. Back to the rock tomorrow!

Nice story, Iain, which isn't gibberish to me (unlike some of the band's lyrics!). A friend of mine was into HMHB, and we used to sing along to songs like The Len Ganley Stance.

January, 2018 Ritichie Blackmore’s Rainbow (CD) I went to my usual spot in Manassas, VA to drop off my old books, CDs, and DVDs at McKay’s Used Books. I was scrolling through the classic rock section of the CD racks and came across Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow. I read a little about Rainbow when I started getting into Deep Purple. I ended up buying the CD, and hearing the opening riff of ‘Man on the Silver Mountain’ made me get into the groove and I said to myself “this sounds heavy and groovy.” At the time when I bought the album, I really enjoyed until year later I bought ‘Rising’ and then I thought it was better than their first album.

Boston- S/ T This album was the soundtrack to the Summer of 1977. My cousins would play this non stop at every pool party at their house or when we would do trips to Point Pleasant Beach in NJ. I remember riding the Himalaya ride on the boardwalk with More Than A Feeling cranking over the PA system with the ride going at max speed. Great memories. I bought the album many years later but Ill always have great memories of those great summer days.

My day 21 favorite story is watching the 2021 SoT episode - Ranking the Albums: Wobbler (w/Rand Kelly) Wobbler. They ranked the Wobbler albums of this Norwegian retro-prog band. This SoT episode prompted me to get the From Silence to Nowhere CD from Streetlight Records in San Jose. I have been listening to their CDs since then. Thank you Pete and Rand. 1. The first time I heard the Lambs Lies Down on Broadway vinyl record was on my family turn table in our recreation room. This was my first vinyl record back in 1977 from the Ware House records store. The album cover designs intrigued me, especially the image of Rael reaching out to himself, Rael looking at the connection of the two Raels, and Rael with no mouth. This imagery of self-introspection appealed to my love of science fiction books from Harlan Ellison, J.G. Ballard and Robert Sheckley (among others). The surreal lyrics and music appealed to my love of science fiction and brought me into the world of progressive rock where I later bought other prog rock band vinyl records. I found myself singing out the lyrics in a full-throated roar... a connection to my love of profound science fiction stories and the words embedded in those stories. Today it is still one of my favorite progressive rock albums to listen to. 2. Hearing Jethro Tull songs like Living in the Past, Aqualung and Locomotive Breath back in 1974 on our San Jose-based KOME rock station. Loved the intricate, unique flute sounds from Ian Anderson. Went with my father in 1974 to look at old vinyl records at Moe’s Records and purchased the Living in the Past vinyl record for around $2 or 3 dollars. Still have the record and play it occasionally on my son’s turntable. 3. Hearing Rush for the first time on KSJO and KOME radio stations in 1981. The late DJ Dennis Erectus introduced the Tom Sawyer song on KOME. Today, I still love the album on CD. 4. 1980 listening to ELO’s Out of the Blue 8 track tape cartridge on my first car, a brown Capri. I would crank this tape up for my 1982 Lincoln High School Senior Cut day to Santa Cruz, CA. Still listen to this album on my CD player in my car. 5. In 1979 I purchased the Roxy Music vinyl record For Your Pleasure at the Campbell Tower Records store and played it on my turntable. I had heard past songs on the KOME radio station and first heard the Both Ends Burning song. Really liked the spookiness of the In Every Dream Home a Heartache song and listen to this CD often. Went with my wife to see Roxy Music at the San Francisco Chase Center a couple years ago and they sounded great. Manzanera, the guitarist was on fire that evening. 6. Listening to Steely Dan’s hit Rick Don’t Lose That Number song on my parent’s car radio back in 1974. I then bought the Pretzel Logic vinyl record back in 1979 at the Ware House record store. I listen to the CD frequently today and have grown to like the deeper cut songs like Night by Night and Pretzel Logic and dislike the pervasive elevator muzak versions of their songs. 7. Hearing the Moody Blues - Nights in White Station on the radio station in 1973 for the first time. Remembering my older cousin recommending this band to me around 1975. He loved the Moody Blues. My cousin sadly passed away from substance abuse back in 2022. I often play the Moody Blues on CDs and fondly remember my older cousin’s passion for the Moody Blues. 8. Hearing Kansas’ Dust in the Wind back in 1976 on the local KOME radio station at home. Went to the local Tower Records store and bought the Kansas Leftoverture vinyl record around 1979. Still listen to Leftoverture with my CD player at home in my car. 9. Watching the January, 2019 SoT Top 10 Songs: Camel and starting to listen to their discography upon Pete’s recommendations. Had always heard of Camel but never explored their discography. Thank you Pete. First Camel CD that I explored was Mirage, purchased at Street Light Records in early 2019. Love Andy Latimer’s fantastic guitar tones. 10. Watching the Suspiria movie back in 1979 on our family VCR player during the Halloween season and remembering the haunting music. Discovered that the Italian band Goblin created most of the movie sound track. Went to our local Ware House record store and bought the Goblin Roller vinyl record in 1979. Expanded my Goblin discography in the 80s with their CDs and have seen them live a few times since 2013. Met the band members before their 2013 Warfield, San Francisco show. Listen to them regularly since then. 11. Hearing Yes’ Roundabout song on the local San Jose rock station, KOME, in 1978. Went to our local used vinyl record store, Moe’s Records in 1979 and purchased the Yessongs triple vinyl record album for around $6. Enjoyed the live album then and still listen to the vinyl record today. 12. Listening to the SoT Big Big Train episode - New Releases … Big Big Train - Grand Tour in 2019. Upon Pete’s strong review, I purchased the Big Big Train - English Electric: Full Power, compilation CD in 2019. I have been exploring their discography since 2019 and wanted to thank Peter for recommending them. 13. Listening to Todd Rundgren’s Utopia’s Time Heals on the local rock KOME station back in 1978 and then seeing the 1982 Time Heals video on MTV. I then bought the Utopia Swing to the Right CD at our local Tower Records store. I then purchased most of their discography in CD format in the 80s. I have been listening to their CDs off and on till today. 14. I am an avid reader of science fiction writer, Isaac Asimov and had read his classic I, Robot in the mid 70s. Listening to The Alan Parsons Projects song - I Robot on the San Jose KOME rock station in 1977 and saw the title I, Robot, drew me to the record. I then purchased The Alan Parsons Project vinyl record at Tower Records and then most of the discography on CDs in the 80s. I have been listening to their CDs and vinyl records off and on and into today. 15. Listening to The Cars on the San Jose KOME rock station song - Good Times Roll in 1978. Went to the Towers Records store and bought The Cars - The Cars vinyl record in 1978. I then bought the next few Cars albums on CD and listened to them off and on until today. 16. Hearing Supertramp’s Logical Song on the radio in 1979. Intrigued by the British view of America and went to the Ware House Records store and bought the Breakfast in America vinyl record. Loved the lyrics in all of the songs, especially Child of Vision. I then went and bought several of their CDs in the 80s and have listened to them off and on till today. 17. Acquired the Honey Barbara - I-10 & W. Ave. CD tip inserted into the Emigre Graphic Design magazine #60 in 2001. Listened to this Texas band’s quirky songs including Sleep Late, Beddie ‘bye and Killer Duds. Listen to this CD to remind me of my early Graphic Design career and for graphic design inspiration to today. 18. Watching the 2020 SoT Ranking the Studio Albums: Gentle Giant episode and hearing Pete’s recommendations for ranking the Gentle Giant albums. Upon Pete’s recommendations, I acquired the Octopus album and then continued to get the other albums in their discography. Love the musical virtuosities of the band. Thank you Pete. 19. Perusing the CDs at my local San Jose Ware House records store and was attracted to the beautiful illustration of the Dead Can Dance - Aion 1990 CD. This Melbourne transplants to London, Lisa Gerrard, vocalist and vocalist Brendan Perry have created beautiful neoclassical darkwave/medieval folk music since 1981 into today. The beautiful Fortune Presents Gifts Not According to the Book and Black Sun from the Aion CD led me to get most of the discography on CD. I enjoy and listen to their music today. 20. Listening to early Marillion songs on the radio from the early 80s including Kayleigh led me to the local Tower Records store to buy the Marillion Misplaced Childhood CD in 1985. Would be the rest of the Fish-based Marillion CDs after that. I have enjoyed this 80-based Marillion CDs till today. 21. Watching the 2021 SoT episode - Ranking the Albums: Wobbler (w/Rand Kelly) Wobbler. They ranked the Wobbler albums of this Norwegian retro-prog band. This SoT episode prompted me to get the From Silence to Nowhere CD from Streetlight Records in San Jose. I have been listening to their CDs since then. Thank you Pete and Rand. 22. Seeing the Dixie Dregs perform at my alma mater, San Jose State University in 1981 in a free performance in front of the Ivory Tower. Morse and company were on fire. The concert moved me to purchase the 1980 Dixie Dregs - Dregs of the Earth CD. I bought most of their 80s discography on CDs and have been listening to them since then.

Still at December 1973, and only a few days before the Christmas holidays (as of today), after “Quadrophenia”, I’ve got another stunning studio double album, which was “GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD”, by Elton John. At this time around, I wasn’t dependent of the selection the little store offered anymore. Meanwhile, we had got a mail-order house which regularly adverted all the new rock/pop releases at decent prices on the music magazines I was used to check at the time, and it worked well on postal order. Sometimes, you needed to show some patience, though… when you had to wait 4 or more weeks to get the album you ordered, but it always worked out fine. I remember that the first album I ordered on the postal way had been Tull’s “Passion Play”. And now, at early December the same year, I had ordered Elton John’s double album. As being said, I got the delivery in time shortly before the Christmas days… and I was really delighted about what I’ve got. The first side of the album, and the opening with “Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding” blew me away, when I heard this for the first time (and still causes goosebumps on me, when hearing it again). Elton on piano and vocals, along with Davey Johnstone (git), Dee Murray (b) and Nigel Olsson (dr) were just awesome on there, as well on the songs to follow. Guest musician David Hentschel deserves an extra mention because of his impressive ARP synthesizer playing on this legendary music piece (he would later go on to co-produce Genesis’ post Gabriel albums, from “A Trick” to “Duke”, including the “Seconds Out” live album). What can I say about “Candle In The Wind”, following after this? Well, actually, I already knew at the time about the person called “Norma Jean”, and that it’s been about Marylin Monroe. It’s one of the best songs ever written, in my opinion. It’s remarkable that at the first Christmas holiday our family could watch the movie “Some Like It Hot” on German TV for the first time ever. This movie with Marylin is still in my top 3 … brilliant work from director Billy Wilder, with Marylin shining along with Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. Even the supporting actors had been casted carefully. This is a cinematic masterpiece. I still love the movie to death, and Elton’s song is connected to it, for me at least. I could go on like this… I remember that “Bennie And The Jets” was # 1 at the US charts, and deservedly so. Quite different to what had been there before, but very enjoyable. My least favourite on side 1, but still worth listening. The title track, opening side 2, also is legendary, as is the rest on it. I think that the second LP/disc is not quite that strong than the first one, but still there are for sure a lot of excellent tunes on it. “Saturday Night” alone deserves a more than worth mentioning. To me, after all these years, this album is one of those which have become kind of a “Christmas album”, though for sure it never had been meant to be. It’s only just because of the circumstances, when I found the way to it. Elton has released so much albums during the decades. I have not got all of them, but later albums like “The One”, “Made In England” or “The Big Picture” amongst others prove, that he was still able to compose, sing and play on high standards. His writing partner Bernie Taupin also always did awesome work, providing the song lyrics. I was probably around 8 or 10. The Best Of The Animals was released in 1966. So I think I'm fairly close. I played that record to death. We had a crappy record player and I remember taping a nickel on the tonearm head because one of the tracks skipped. We eventually got another copy and I still have it today. I'm convinced that the hard and heavy R&B/blues rock of The Animals is the reason I love heavy rock so much. Some timeless classics are in this batch of songs.

This album is RUMOURS by Fleetwood Mac. It came out in 1977 and is still in LP format. The record cover, sleeve, and poster are all in outstanding condition. The poster has all the band members on one side and the other side has all the names of the songs plus the lyrics to each song. I love the songs to this album. Pick #21: Kansas's Leftoverture. So this pick kind of already went with my story for Death's Symbolic, and Point of Know Return also kind of goes along with this one, but there was one day where I was pretty bored and happened to be playing some video games and happened to be listening to Death's Symbolic, Kansas's Leftoverture and Point of Know Return, which represents a time I happened to get into both bands. Not the most compelling or worthwhile story but it is one I can remember pretty easily. #1: The Who's Tommy (1969) #2: RX Bandits' ...And the Battle Begun (2006) #3: Metallica's ...And Justice For All (1988) #4: Pink Floyd's The Wall (1979) #5: Daft Punk's Alive 2007 #6: Yes's Close to the Edge (1972) #7: Genesis's Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (1974) #8: Arcade Fire's Funeral (2004) #9: Silverchair's Diorama (2002) #10: Green Day's American Idiot (2004) #11: The Killers' Hot Fuss (2004) #12: Death's Symbolic (1995) #13: Radiohead's Kid A (2000) #14: Linkin Park's A Thousand Suns (2010) #15: Muse's Origins of Symmetry (2001) #16: Tool's Lateralus (2001) #17: Opeth's Blackwater Park (2001) #18: Rush's Grace Under Pressure (1984) #19: Rainbow's Rising (1976) #20: Black Sabbath's Mob Rules (1981) #21: Kansas's Leftoverture (1976)

DAY 21= BOSTON- Self Titled (1976) Hi friends. Pete nice choice Iron Maiden Killers. And understandable to needing extra rest when under the weather. I have been in the same boat. Inside sneezing and runny nose and so a cold or something, It sucks. Anyway BOSTON was hearing on the FM Radio alot and the album got a lot of airplay. And 'More Than A Feeling' Foreplay/Long Tme . Smokin , Rock and Roll Band. And some of Hitch A Ride Something About You Peace Of Mind and Let Me Take You Home Tonight and hearing Tom Scholz on that guitar with his masterly sound and Barry Goudreau lead and rhythm guitars too Fran Sheehan bass John Thomas "Sib" Hashian (August 17, 1949 - March 22, 2017 RIP=drums and the great voice and singer of Brad Delp RIP and miss a lot. And the great albums to follow of Don't Look Back and Third Stage. Then others where all these lineups and such for Boston after Delp had passed away. But the album and the songs that so loved each time would hear on radio and in 1976 would see BOSTON -in Dayton and Robert Palmer opened who came along late for half and hour or something as it was heard he wasn't to show. My cousin Jeff and a band he had to fill he was aiding fill in but of course didn't that night so Cleo and his band and my cousin and me we was let in and enjoyed the show. They were great Boston was and I would see them again in Dayton in 1979. And the album so filled many great plays and when my brother and when friends came over and saw me with having the album that I picked up. be it used when I really got the chance otherwise had a couple of 45s More Than A Feeling and Long Time, Which don't have any more or the original old BOSTON album, but got again used in good condition vinyl along finding some few years ago or so. Cause it is a must to any record collection in most of peoples opinions and IMO. So let me know of your likes and loves to it and any parts of stories you have too. Here's my own story behind that album, I was 11 or 12 and saw that album in a store called Zayre in Florida. Zayre later became Ames but was one of those regional type department stores we used to have in the States. The cover sold me as a pre-teen who was starting to get into music, and since it was my first Maiden album I never minded Paul Di'Anno like some people do. It was the third album I ever bought with my own money (Journey - Escape, Asia s/t were first and second), and I've been a fan ever since. I still have that vinyl copy to this day. I also used to have that poster on my wall. Still the best metal band ever. UP THE FUCKING IRONS!

Golden Earring Moontan. It must have been 73 or early 74. Unusually for me bought this album in a supermarket. It introduced me to the band and I eventually got the rest of their 60s and 70s albums. All good albums. I got the US version not the UK version which had a different cover.

Hi Pete. Sorry you're feeling under the weather; I'm struggling a bit too. My story today is about LIVE DATES by WISHBONE ASH (1973). Bit of a no-brainer for me, as I was there! The live album was recorded at four shows in England - Croydon, Newcastle, Portsmouth and Reading - and I was at the Reading gig. I was working about 20 miles from the venue - in my gap year between school and university (no world travelling for me!) - and I went with a school friend (who also provided the wheels) and an older work colleague who I had introduced to the Ash's music. At the gig the band told us they were recording it for a live album, and then played for over three hours - most of their first four albums in fact. Terrific stuff. Four of these Reading songs made it onto Live Dates: Lady Whiskey, Ballad Of The Beacon, Rock And Roll Widow, and one of my faves, The Pilgrim.

Another album I picked based on the cover. Tomato on hammock? So, I went for this double live LP, handed my 153.80 dinars at the cashier of Unima/Sarajka department store. You would actually get a paper slip on counter once you picked the album/or any other good, for that matter, go to the cashier and come back with the final slip in hands to pick up the choice of the day. Which was Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus. Not really the music I was listening to back in the day, but as soon as a needle hit the first groove and speakers suggested Join the Band, I did.

My Day 21 pick is As Daylight Dies the fourth studio album by American metalcore band Killswitch Engage. It was released on November 21, 2006 through Roadrunner Records. It was produced by the band's guitarists, Adam Dutkiewicz and Joel Stroetzel. At this time I was a big wrestling fan and about the time I turned 8 like one of the albums before on this list I would play a game called Guitar Hero 3 and I would hear and play the song My Curse on this album and I was blown away by how heavy the song was because at that time I was a casual metal fan. Later I would watch a show called ECW and I saw this guy CM Punk come with this cool song called This Fire(which was featured on the special edition. I told my parents how cool their two songs were and then they would buy it for me as a birthday gift in 2007. This became One of my favorite albums, mainly because the riffs are just so damn good. The only thing keeping me from giving it a 10/10 score in my book is "Desperate Times". I just could not get into it; I would much prefer "Break the Silence" straight to "Reject Yourself" (those are the 2 most underrated Killswitch Engage songs ever In my opinion) Track listing edit All lyrics are written by Howard Jones; all music is composed by Killswitch Engage No. Title Length 1. Ive been a fan of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna for years i had all the Airplane albums with Jorma Kaukenon plus a couple of Hot Tunas. I heard for the first time The live Hot Tuna Album Double Dose at a friends house who just picked it up when it came out. I was so into it. It started with 3 acoustic numbers including The Reverend Gary Davis song Keep Your Lamps Trimmed And Burning then it went electric the rest of the way. Best songs are Billy Boy Arnolds I Wish You Would. Chuck Berrys Talking About You. Bobby Rushes Bowlegged Woman Knock Kneed Man. Jormas own I See The Light and finishes with a great version of The Muddy Waters tune I Cant Be Satisfied. Needless to say i picked up my own version of Double Dose. Hot Tuna has recorded many acoustic and electric through the years but Double Dose remains a favorite of mine.

Feel better soon, Pete. Day 21: ABBA - Arrival (1976) The Deb Time Machine has taken us back to November 1976. It was a few days before my 12th birthday. My mom and I were spending the day with my paternal grandparents. My dad and brothers were doing something. I can't remember what. In the morning I was helping my grandfather work on his ‘66 Impala. I was his “Gopher”. Go for this, go for that. lol We listened to the radio which played music from the fifties. I kind of liked it. We had lunch then it was time to listen to my mom’s new album. My grandpa went out to run errands and it was my grandma, my mom, and me. Side note: I took a long pause because I realized my grandma was the same age as I am now. YIKES! Okay back to the story. The first song was “When I Kissed the Teacher”. I sure did make a production out of it and I don't mean my usual musical theater/rocker chick antics. I was going on and on about someone kissing their teacher. My mom finally said she was going to take my Deep Purple albums and sell them. I shut up. Anyway, “Dancing Queen” came on. I immediately liked this song. I started singing and humming. I wasn't familiar with the song to sing it. And of course I started dancing and my grandma joined me. My mom was sitting on the couch doing as much moves as she could. She was weak from the home dialysis she had the day before. Halfway through the song, my grandma and I joined my mom on the couch and stayed and sang to the chorus. For the song “Dum Dum Diddle” pronounced deedle. However, I was singing it as dumb dumb beetle. lol We continued to sway, move, and sing along to the album. During the song, “Knowing Me, Knowing You” I had to ask why one of the ladies was whispering. My grandma and my mom just shook their heads. Of course I had to do the whispering parts. We enjoyed the album and had a wonderful time. Another song we got into was “Fernando”. It is a memory that I think about when I hear one of the songs from this album. I still have a fondness for this album. A very special memory is attached to it. Day 21: ABBA - Arrival (1976) Day 20: The Last Dinner Party - Prelude to Ecstasy (2024) Day 19: Dio - Holy Diver (1983) Day 18: No Story Day 17: No Story Day 16: The Runaways - The Runaways (1976) Day 15: Live - Throwing Copper (1994) Day 14: No Story Day 13: No Story Day 12: Rainbow - Rising (1976) Day 11: Yes - Fragile (Released in the UK on 12 November 1971 and in the US on 4 January 1972) Day 10: Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak (1976) Day 9: Deep Purple Machine Head (1972) Day 8: Boston - Boston (1976) Day 7: Emerson, Lake, and Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery (1973) Day 6: Suzi Quatro - If You Knew Suzi (1978) Day 5: Steve Miller Band - Fly Like an Eagle (1976) Day 4: Journey - Infinity (1978) Day 3: Cyndi Lauper - She's So Unusual (1983) Day 2: Jethro Tull - Aqualung (1971) Day 1: Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath (1970)

I am going to talk about Vinyl Fever , and other used album stores I used to go to. As fate would have it, that's where I bought Killers by Iron Maiden. I bought a lot of albums at Vinyl Fever. It was a cheap way to try out artists you hadn't heard of. During a certain time, I would take chances on heavy metal and new wave music. Sometimes, I would go to Wooden Nickel and buy imported singles. Next I'll talk about song chasing.

21. Stabbing Westward - Wither, Blister, Burn And Peel When this was newly released the song What Do I Have To Do was in heavy rotation on MTV. I like the song a lot, but then a little while later, the video for Shame was premiered and I really dug that song and the video had an interesting storyline behind it. I got this CD not too long after that and it took me a bit to fully get into it, but it helped get me through the rest of high school. How do I describe the band? They’re alternative rock with some industrial and electronic elements. I really love this album and their follow-up, Darkest Days, but this one holds a little something special for me.

I remember the first time I bought a scorpions album. It was Savage Amusement. I remember it just came out. I friend introduced me to the band. I had to buy an album. I went to our local record store called Vista records and tapes. A friend from high school worked there and said they had just come out with a new record and it was Savage Amusement. I do remember my sister had blackout and I would kinda hear a song or two. But it wasn't till I heard Savage Amusement I got hooked. Funny now how its one of my least favorite albums now. I also remember shortly after this a friend gave me a cassette recording of Lonesome Crow and just totally flipped out. What is this it is so different. This band has been one of my all time favorites ever since.

Pick number 21 Motley Crue shout at the devil This one came about thanks to an older student on the school bus I remember. He had a boombox / ghetto blaster are you put in a duffel bag bring to school. But I remember he used to Crank it up and rock the school bus was pretty funny. Well the first thing you heard was the title track and the giant shout shout shout at the devil MTV was just gravitating towards looks that kill. I was really digging it it was hard it was raucous but it was fun very hard rock for the day. I didn't know nothing about the sunset strip in the parties and everything else I was only 14 years old a freshman. But the heavy glam makeup was kind of unique for the time the hair metal genre just starting to take off. Too young to fall in love was a really good solus good Vince lyrics. Bastard. You're a little short version of Helter skelter. Two of my favorite deep cuts knock em Dead kid. And 10 seconds to love. This is when I played over and over and over really enjoyed it. You can see why metal reviews grab the hold of it and gave it high marks rolling Stones crapped all over it. But it still holds up really good surprisingly it is a damn good album although theatre of pain would just get more commercialized along with girls girls girls girls girls and then by the time doctor feelgood came I pretty much wasn't really that much of a fan. having basically for me now shout at the devil and the one greatest hits that came out years ago does the trick for the crue But I do remember how cool for the day it did sound when they came really hard on the scene with that second album getting the MTV play.

Walt Mink - Miss Happiness (1992) I went to college with this power trio, and some of my favorite memories were their early basement shows in dorms and house parties starting in 1988. Candice was pretty new to the bass but was a total natural, plucking with her fingers like Bootsy Collins and Larry Graham. John and Joey had been in bands since high school and were already at a level of musicianship beyond not only other bands at school, but most bands period. Thanks to Babes in Toyland drummer Lori Barbero, the Twin Cities music scene's fairy godmother, they got a deal with Caroline and released their first album. Just like when my old housemates The Draghounds released their first album a couple years previously, it was a joy sharing in the giddy excitement of such a milestone. There would be disapointments in the future, but for the moment, the present seemed bursting with possibilities. As I was working long hours working on a database at a law firm in a windowless back room, I played the shit out of that CD on my portable player and mini speakers, and it became known as the fun rockin' room where others came to hang out during breaks as opposed to the depressing dungeon it once was. My workbuddy Lysa didn't even mind that I played it so much, as long as her Juliana Hatfield CD also got some spins.
