What an enjoyable episode. Music of various genres and a great set of panelists as well. Thanks to Brendon, Scot, Grant and of course, you, too, Pete, for taking time to unearth this albums and bring them to the viewers attention. Most of my choices mentioned but the Buckingham Nicks one time LP prior to their joining Fleetwood Mac is one not included in the episode and always comes to mind when these discussions occur. Several new additions to the SoT shopping list because of these discussions. Thanks again, guys.

Because discovering new bands is my jam, this is probably one of my fav topics for a show, this is how I got hooked to SoT back then (Pete mad 4 episodes of one and done if I remember right). Grant, Lollipop did another album in 2007 (saw it on Spotify) but it doesn't really matter, it's great to be able to find out about them. I know it's not the kind of show that gets you the most views, but it's so great to hear about those unknown (or very little known) bands. Love it!

Many one album wonders have been mentioned in the show and in the commentaries but to add another fantastic record from the prog world: the self-titled debut by "Refugee" (1973), a power trio with two members from The Nice and Patrick Moraz who then left to join Yes for "Relayer".

In 2006 when the Darkness stopped Justin Hawkins set up British Whale and then as Grant mentions Hot Leg. The other members of the Darkness made their own group called "The Stone Gods". Bassist Richie Edwards became the Lead Singer and the band delivered a stunning album called "Silver Spoons and Broken Bones" on the play it again Sam label. Well worth a listen.

The self-titled Humanimal album from 2002. Jeff Scott Soto on vocals, Marcel Jacob on bass, Pontus Norgren on guitar and Thomas Broman on drums. It is claimed there is not one single power chord on this. And yet it's heavy stuff. The album is a rollercoaster ride without a ballad. The sound is very organic and great!

When Pete named the Highway Robbery members the name Don Francisco instantly rang a bell as a Christian singer my mom had cassettes of when i was a kid. Trying to determine if he's the same is not easy (his wiki page doesn't mention the band, or Allmusic, but he was described as having played secular music first). They both have mustaches (if he is on the left on the HR cover). There is a 3 day difference in given birthdates.

I always recommend AFT's 'Automatic Fine Tuning' in these circumstances - basically it's like Wishbone Ash decided to concentrate on the lengthy guitar tracks but replaced every member and were inadvisedly persuaded that one track had to have vocals. Should'a been huge (and it's on the (Famous) Charisma label) but in 1976 it was maybe 2 years too late to break through.

Rosie Vela: Zazu (1986). Model turned singer who actually had a good voice! Single was Magic Smile featuring Donald Fagen on keyboards and Walter Becker on guitar (video's available on YT--check it out!). Really good song that should've been a bigger hit! (Dunno if Steely Dan backed her up on the whole album or just that song). She DID record a second album, but A&M (her label) never released it for some reason. (Also, on a side note, she was dating Jeff Lynne at the time, but don't believe he had anything to do with her musical output).
@overtheedge4711
@overtheedge4711 20 күн бұрын
Pretty sure the only reason Becker & Fagen turned up was Gary Katz produced it. Fagen played on all but two tracks, and Becker was only on 3. Other Dan alumni including Rick Derringer also did some tracks, but Jeff Lynne isn't mentioned anywhere on it. . But I agree it's an excellent album and she is quite easy on the eyes!!

Great episode. There are two that immediately spring to mind for me. One is behind Scot and it was only mentioned in passing: Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols. The only album of original material, although there have been about a million compilations. The other is from 2000 and was released on Sub Pop. Uppers And Downers by The Yo-Yo's. Bassist/singer Danny McCormack's band after The Wildhearts split for the first time. Punk rock 'n' roll - they were once described as The Clash jamming with Showaddywaddy (Pete, have you checked them out after they were mentioned on a UK Connection show a while back?), all three frontmen (Danny, Tom and Neil) sang and contributed 3 part harmonies, more yobbish than someone like CSN, though. They split as Danny was in the throes of substance addiction and they've reformed for the odd live show, but it remains their only album.

Sunforest was a short-lived British trio formed in the late 1960s, consisting of Terry Tucker, Erika Eigen, and Freya Hogue. I would describe their sound as a fusion of baroque pop in the Left Banke vein and Sandy Denny-adjacent British folk, with lush harmonies, harpsichord aplenty, and other classical influences and elements. Their sole album, Sound of Sunforest (1969), is a whimsical Technicolor delight and well worth discovering, especially if you enjoy, say, Donovan or the Incredible String Band.
