This vlog is a tribute to the beautiful "Children" by Robert Miles, who sadly passed away at the age of 47 on May 9, 2017.
Most people know that "Children" is one of the pioneering tracks of the "dream house" (or "dream dance") genre. But ... Did you know the melody of "Children" is based on a Russian track? Or that Pete Tong named “Children” the “Essential Tune Of The Week” for 3 weeks in a row? Or that the first time the track came out, it didn't even enter the charts? Or the story about the lawsuit?
You'll hear it all in this vlog!
Enjoy and thanks for watching!
Don't forget to check out my interview with Maria Nayler in which she shares the story behind "One & One", the track she did with Robert Miles: • The story behind Rober...

I will never forget sitting in my living room at 15 years of age watching VH1 and seeing the music video for ‘The Children’ and being completely mesmerized knowing that even then that I would one day be attending dance parties, desert raves, and eventually go on to DJ and produce EDM myself. Like so many trance music and EDM fans and artists, Robert Miles was my introduction into that world, a world I may have never known had it not been for Robert Miles. R.I.P. Brother 🙏🎧🎶

I was at a rave in Johannesburg called Mother 1 in 1996 the first time I heard this track, must have been a first for most of the 15 000 or so people there that night because it literally stopped everyone in their tracks, then when the bass line came in and the beat dropped the crowd went crazy! The Monday after that rave this track was on every radio station at least 5 times between 8am and 5pm, it carried on like that for well over a year! A massive chooon!!!

Future generations keep this alive until the end of time! This song was literally my introduction to trance and I remember trying for weeks to catch it from the beginning on the radio to find out the name and who did it. With no words, it was not easy to do! When I finally figured it out, I went and bought the cassette (because that's all there was back then) and I played it in my car until I wore the tape itself, out. This is a classic that will never get old. R.IP. Robert Miles..

In 1995, I was 20 years old-living in Orlando when I heard the song “Children” for the first time that spring/summer. I fell in love with it. The song was played at raves and on an alternative radio stations. Nothing like hearing the song while coming down/off of things..kept u calm and chill. After months of being in Florida and experiencing the nightlife there, I found myself in Alabama-a way from the trance and Robert Miles tunes. Some time in 1996-1997, the song I had loved and chilled out to, found its way back around to my ears due to a national release of the song. “Children” has held a special place in my life along with the dreamland album.

I got hooked on Children from one of my CD's when my two boys, (now 21 and 22) were children as I always thought about them and how I would "miss" them when they would become adults and go on their own into the world. I am an "Empath" and "Children" has been a very strong emotional piece to me that I would cry every time I heard it. Now, years later, my sons are own their own in the world and I still cry when I hear "Children"; now, I know why I really "cry" when I hear it. All those lost innocent lives due to "stupid" decisions on their parts to go "party" and die afterwards. Very somber. Thank you, Mr. Robert Miles for your heart-felt piece, "Children". God Bless

"Children" by none other than master musician Robert Miles will always calm and soothe me when I'm sad, angry or frustrated and take me back to a simpler place and time. I remember hearing this while in elementary school in the mid 90s, i know for a fact Mom had this song on her Drew's Famous Extreme Party Music CD 1997 which I currently have on my phone downloaded to the 256GB micro sd card😊, and I believe mom also had this on cassette, although I don't remember if it was robert miles or various artists as she had several various artists cassettes with dance music at the time along with CDs of course.
