That JK told him the full character arch is all that got him into the movie, and you're right, he was just reciting dialogue written for him, but he was the character. The only thing we never got was Alan's sense of humor, but that wouldn't work, he just said "OK I teach potions, am a spy, and let's go" and he put himself on screen, and it would never work any other way.

I love this moment in the movie when Snape comes up to the trio and says, "Good afternoon. When you see this movie, you're not going to see all of these huge mechanics and the months of editing." Such a truly thought-provoking scene.

The movie is so focused on the kids that you sometimes ignore the A-list cast around them in every film. Personally, I think it's the strength of the A-list that makes the early films bearable since the kids acting was only tolerable. The kids were very lucky to have been influenced by such amazing actors so early in their careers to hone their talents.

First and foremost, after seeing the movies it's almost impossible to imagine anyone else playing many of the roles in the Harry Potter franchise but to Alan Rickman's credit he made his portrayal of Snape stand out even in a film loaded with iconic actors and actresses ... Second I've always loved how the story of the filming of the Harry Potter movies was essentially film icons teaching younger boys and girls how to act you stop and really think about how much knowledge these much older actors and actresses had to give these much younger actors and actresses and it's funny to think that they essentially had a acting school where the main project was a movie about a school

Alan Rickman played the character Obadiah Slope in the Barchester Chronicles in 1982, the character there was as creepy as Snape an much closer in age to the Snape in the books. Although perfectly portrayed by Rickman, the book character was actualy not even 40 years ols when he died.

That's such a good indication that the work environment on the films was a wholesome one. That the kids in the first films couldn't stop smiling for the wonder of being on set playing these characters. It does my heart good to know that the were patient with them and didn't put too much pressure on them to get it right immediately. Probably the reason they all turned out so well despite being super-famous from 10 years old.
