When I got to meet Ed Boon at Combo Breaker some years ago, I actually got to ask him why the MK3 animalities were all solid colored while any added from there were new sprites. Ed told me the MK3 ones were done with as small memory of objects as possible to make them fit, while they had a lot more memory to work with for UMK3 and MKT.

I wouldn't be surprised if Liu Kang has his signature MK2 fatality as Animality... again. Still having Animalities return comes full circle with the Netherrealm era games (kinda) by having MK9 with Babalities, MK11 with Friendships (which got teased with one of The Joker's fatailites before being a real thing) and now with MK"1" the return of the Animalities, heck, would be funny to see both Sector and Cyrax perform their old Animality in MK"1" and see how brutal will become this time.

Another thing to add to the full circle thing you're mentioning - each of the older finishers have returned. Babalities were in MK9; Brutalities returned in MKX and became a staple of the series; Friendships came back in MK11 Ultimate and now, Animalities are back for MK One - Khaos Reigns.

At 1 point we had them all in 1 game (I think) Fatality, brutality, babality, animality and mercy. Brutalities were 11 button combos though, large combos more like killer instinct ultras. I prefer MKX onwards brutalities that are seamless at the end of the match.

I'm hoping nrs maintains some of their silliness. If Scorpion turns into a scorpion its really on the nose and fine. It makes sense. Its retro. Nostalgic. If Liu Kang turns into a dragon, nobody is surprised but some people will be happy however They cannot make them all obvious. I hope Sub Zero turns into a penguin, Reptile turns into a bird, Rain turns into a seal. Keep it creative and innovative.

The fact that Sheeva is the one that turns into a scorpion when they already had a character *_named_* Scorpion makes it seem like Midway originally had no intention of adding him into the game (which is weird, since Ed Boon has said multiple times that he's his favorite)

Since Scorpion wasn't in MK3 until Ultimate, Sheeva turned into a scorpion for her Animality, so they had to do something different for Scorpion. You'll also notice all the Ultimate and Trilogy characters have slightly weird looking animals: they don't glow and are smaller than the OG cast. They just couldn't bother at that point, but they had to add them for the sake of completion.

MK3 Animalities were good, because they are just big animals with that glow. Trouble was that UMK3 and Trilogy bring the real size animals, so we had a small Cat, Skunk, Penguin and Rabbit, just to name a few.

Nightwolf is a wolf, of course, sub zero is a polar bear, obvious, and scorpion is a penguin because Sheeva got the scorpion first. Why? because they just started picking at random to do the other characters. At least, in the end, he and the penguin have the same colors.

The most shocking Animality that I’ve seen was from a fan made version of Michael Myers also from Mugen, who turned into a monster oh alien creature similar to The Thing. I still have the footage on my channel since it was one of the very 1st things I’ve uploaded and it’s still kind of disturbing. Although I think combining both John Carpenter’s The Thing & John Carpenter’s Halloween is a brilliant idea.
