Morning everybody! Read some comments about Bolvar's death/resurrection. This is what the ultimate visual guide says: "The flames of the red dragonflight had reanimated Bolvar after Angrathar, though he was horrifically charred beyond recognition." Pg 55. Chronicles vol 3 says: "Everyone left on the field of battle was killed: Bolvar Fordragon and almost 5000 Alliance soldiers, and Dranosh Saurfang and over 4000 loyal horde followers." Pg 180

Can some1 explain to me something? Since I was a kid i did not understand why Arthas suddenly changed from good to bad (my theory is that after he picked up frostmourne he had to obey The lich king but in WC3 and in the books it is not explained why he suddenly changed and back stabbed Ner'Zhul for control, plz dont tell me that it was cuz of revenge or the moments in his life building up to it cuz it would not make sense...). If the explanation has no logical sense plz do not explain it to me cuz it would destroy my memory as a kid :( Nobbel87 please help out cuz everytime i think about it it annoys me

But if the dragons had brought him back to life, how come Arthas ended up getting a hold of him? Wouldn't they alliance have retrieved him? Did the red dragons just not know that their fire was capable of resurrecting dudes?

@Anti As far as I know, it was because Arthas the Death Knight didn't want to serve or share the power with Ner'zhul (who was basically going to take over Arthas' body), so inside the helmet they fought for control until Arthas came out on top. Even as a Paladin Arthas was hungry for power and control, and now that he didn't have a kingdom to protect anymore he was kind of "unhinged", and that's dangerous. He didn't care about protecting the living anymore, just controlling everything and everyone. The Chronicles added a bit about Arthas thinking only a world-wide Scourge would be powerful enough to stop the Burning Legion and the Old Gods, since the people of Azeroth wouldn't be fighting each other anymore when they were undead. But that doesn't really matter in the long run - Arthas had already been driven mad long ago by Ner'zhul's power through Frostmourne.

@@EndlessVacuum No they're aware of their resurrection powers as seen by Krasus in the war of the ancients trilogy. They even talk about it infront of the wrathgate where they say: "They must not discover the fate of the young paladin. Not yet." I'm not sure why Bolvar was brought back, but ending up in the hands of the scourge is not impossible. Dragons do their fire thing, fly off in their cinematic way. Rando ghoul is looking out through the window, all mind blown of what just happened and he sees this smoldering corpse of Bolvar. YOINK, into the hands of the Lich King

The one that wears the crown of the Lich King becomes one with the Lich King, so it would seem Bolvar's influence would be there as well unless his mind is dominated. It would be trash to have Ner'zhul take control completely. If there is any further story arc with the Lich King, it would have to be with a hybrid mind of both which might be interesting.

Technically, he wasn't dead until he ripped out his heart after he awoke. He never officially "died" until we killed him, but stealing a piece of a soul wouldn't do it. It does make it bind to the soul though.

I recently went through the Death Knight starting zone for the millionth time and while saving Koltira Deathweaver from being tortured by the Scarlet Crusade, he mentions that he might be "bleeding internally", which I never really thought about. If you have to be dead first; how could you bleed internally?

How well do you really think that would go? Taking over Gineas. Killing Genn's son. Taking over Lorederon. Even with Anduin as High King, a peace treaty wouldn't be that simple at all. And even if they did manage to make one, what about when a new king takes over? What if the Alliance starts crumbling because certain people ( * coughgenncough * ) were absolutely against peace with her. That's why it wasn't an option. Because it wouldn't be that easy.

I had an idea for a Death Knight themed Battleground, where the Horde, while still under Sylvanas, and Alliance both raced to Ice Crown to claim/defend him from the other. All the while Death Knights would fight both factions, Horde DKs vs Alliance and Alliance DKs vs Horde, as a three way battle. Now if they did, I can see Kel’Thuzad or Sylvanas trying to claim the Frozen Throne for either... would you fight alongside Kel’Thuzad if it means stopping Sylvanas or vice versa?

I think when Arthas at 10:50 saying that u exist by his whim alone and you imagine yourself to be free, but you will always be his instrument, he is actually refering to players controling the character. Like you exist by whim alone..he si basically teeling your character that you are a creation of the player who was bored so he made a new DK character.

I wish Wrath was made in 2019, because now they add cinematics for everything.. even tiny quests for looting bear asses. Wrath badly needs the modern WoW treatment. As much as i love Wrath, it disappointed me on so many levels. It never got to be as epic as Warcraft 3. BFA and Legion were epic. The new style of Wow is great for the lore fans :) P.s. 10/10 video as always. Love watching those lore bits. Nothing beats some snacks during a Nobbel video for relaxing :P

Bolvar was a wasted Lich King. The guy is constantly on fire and has control over the scourage and ice. Think of all the kinds of cool things WoW writers could have done with him and instead they just make him get cucked by Slyvanas. Someone whose already undead and should have been easily defeated by him. All he would have to do is take control of her Val'kry, if she still had them at the point in time they fought before Shadowlands story begins, and he could have easily taken her down via mind control through the Helm of Domination. Bolvar deserved better as a character. And I hope he gets treated better in Dragonflight and beyond. What a easte of a potentially super awesome character...

well, i think that it points to another undead expantion, it's posible that bolvar will be the final raid boss, it is also posible that we might get new DK models, the lost isles are filed with fallen heroes, some could be resurected as DK's, we might get soem heroes back as undead, the deathknight might even join with the demon hunters

I don't know why people are thinking the death knight for allied races will be a next expansion thing. I'm almost 100% percent sure this will be a 8.3.5 thing and a way for a conclusion for BfA you know with all the death going on. May as well res those that died in this war(which are mainly allied races) to me it seems like the perfect way for them to create them death knights for allied races.

They could set up the lore for allied race dks in the patch but leave the release for the next xpac to give themselves time to iron things out. Plus they've added a lot of character options in BFA(all the allied races) and there's some sort of a pattern going on. Belf/Draenei in BC, DK in Wrath, Goblin/Worgen in Cata, Monk+Pandaren in Mists, nothing in WoD, DH in Legion, Allied Races in BfA. Or maybe they're like me and they want more patch/lore-time to mess around with their new hero class before hitting end-game lolol

Most chilling with the new Lich King was that when he was frozen you can hear some undertones from the theme of Yogg-Saron. Can we be sure that Bolvar is alone inside the Helm of Domination or could he be sharing it with someone?

Alexaeus I thought Arthas and Nerzhul were dead since the latter was slain by his champion servant inside the dream. At first, I wanted to think Nerzhul was still alive after the events of Wotlk since he’s the reason for the powers of undeath. Arthas stabbed him to suppress his influence.

Ner'zhul and Arthas are both gone. Or at least nothing more then shadows. If there is another mind inside the body it might be an old god or something even worse that we haven't seen yet

I doubt either is gone for good. According to "Rise of the Lich King", I believe, Arthas had already killed Ner'zhul's spirit inside the Helm of Domination before, along with what remained of his humanity in the form of that kid whose name I forgot. However, that was the helmet. In Legion, it was shards of Frostmourne, so I got no idea how any of this makes sense anymore.

Frostmourn was a souleater. The first it claimed was Arthas. Kind of weird that it never took Mal'ganis though..... After Ner'Zhul and Arthas humanity was killed he clearly say "There is no Arthas and no Ner'Zhul. Only the Lich King!" Arthas soul returns after ICC. My main guess are that Yogg-Saron never died, only retreated and then took place behind Bolvars burnd body since all saronite are Yogg-Sarons frozen blood.... The Lich King was surrounded by it and its clear the old god was the mastermind of the Lich Kings rise to power. This whole thing is a game of chess played by the Void and the Light (whoever that one is)

I was always under the impression that the Lich King came back to collect/raise the bodies of those who had fallen, and that he was the one who raised Bolvar's burnt corpse - but because it had been "cleansed" by the fire of the red dragons, it wouldn't submit as easily and had some unique properties.

Sure would have been nice for the Horde DKs to get that red dragon quest, too. Or it could have been balanced by us getting some sort of dialogue variation or easter egg when we visited the frozen throne during Vol'jin's questline, but we didn't get that either.

thehulk86 I think due to the red dragon flight giving the gift of life (alekstrasza) he was on the verge of death & when they burnt away all of the plague, they kept just enough away from him in order to keep him in stasis, half alive half burning constantly

After Arthas asked the Deathlord how free he/she really think they are it got me thinking. The reason Sylvanas and the forsaken managed to break free from their bond with the Lich King was because a momentary lapse in the Lich Kings power after Illidan tried to destroy Northrend. But what exactly stopped the Lich King from reestablishing that bond once he got his powers back? The very magic that keeps the forsaken "alive" is directly linked to the Lich King himself. The same goes for the Ebon Blade since their bond was never really "broken". When you think like that certain things start to add up. What if the bond is still there but instead of being slaves struggling against their mental chains the Lich King gives them the illusion of freedom while planting ideas in their subconscious that they think are their own. Kinda like the reaper indoctrination in Mass effect. Like say improving the original plague evolving it into the blight, blighting the land, not letting the land heal and raising the dead. After all the perfect slave is the slave who thinks he is free.

I thought Bolvar's Wrath Gate had him dying of the plague, but the Red Dragons came in and purged the plague before he died so no accidental rez is required. As has been frequently shown, Paladins take a long time to die of corruption/illness.

I was always dissapointed that the Ner'Zul who could see the future lost to surprise attack. But on the other hand the one who I've seen die in cinematic on top of Icecrown was clearly Arthas; not Lich King. My hope is that he has some plans regarding dragons - and that for some reason his plan was completed when he captured Bolvar. He then needed to go hidding during Deathwing and Legion returns, and now is almost ready to takie action once again.

Right now after watching the fight between Bolvar and Sylvanas, all I can say is that since we defeated Arthas and Bolvar took the mantle as jailor of the damned. Bolvar really has been slacking with his chins in the potatochips dipsause.

Ok, legion also had another heavy hint at the shadowlands, in the form of one pet, that had a quest line.. dropping off none other then the 3 headed rare mob on argus. Go back to uuna, a pet, not any pet, one that had a riddle, a quest which leads you to defending her in a dark forest.. the mobs that come after her, trying to consume her soul.. are the same at 17:36 hmm

What saddens me is that we never actually learned what Ner'zhul's plans were. At first he had to do the Legion's bidding. Then he worked to orchestrate the Legion's downfall at Hyjal to free himself. Then he was forced by Illidan to relinquish control of most of his forces and summon then merge with Arthas. Then Arthas locked him away in his mind before WotLK. Now Bolvar seems to be mostly in charge. What if after Hyjal Illidan never found Ner'zhul? What would he have done then? Conquer Azeroth with an army of undead? Return to Draenor? Live happily ever after in Northrend? Release himself from the tormet? Join in the fight against the Legion?

Bolvar has been Lich King longer than Arthas, too. Since Arthas became Lich King in Year 22, and dethroned in 27 (5 years) and Bolvar immediately after becoming Lich King with current year being 33 (6 years), Bolvar has been Lich King as of BFA longer than Arthas has. Doesn't mean Bolvar did more, and Arthas was also a DK beforehand for a hot minute, but Bolvar has technically been Lich King longer than Arthas. Ner'zhul also of course has been Lich King longer than all, since Year 8 to his merge with Arthas (14 years + maybe more?)
