IIRC it's a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail, where they meet an enchanter. He seems very powerful and eloquent, and already knows the king's name and his quest. When asked by what name is he known, he replies "There are some who call me... Tim" which is funny, because it is quite short and unexpected. Invoker has a similar voice line, "Throughout the aeons I have been known by many names... but my true name of power... is Carl."

​@@coatsman5471 mk was already teased way back dota allstars era (just a few patches before dota 2 booms) i just forgot the map but there was a "quest" that you need to do at this map (for example you would need to cut specific trees at the map while equiped with a certain item etc..) where at the end, it will give you a banana hence monkey king.

There are only two types of Invoker players- Invoker or Injoker- there's no in between.

The Deafening Blast nerfs in 6.86 broke me. I mean it was a nerf to address Invoker players going for the cheap ass Euls+Sunstrike and Meteor prepped into Deafening Blast combo but the massive mana cost increase and losing its hard disable was something I was never able to recover from. After not being able to adjust to the changes, I gave up on Invoker and mid role altogether. It worked out in the end for me as I didn't develop a hero pool ideal for mid role anyway.

Oh boy am I looking forward to the final video with how your talk about it, but I am also saddened by the completion of this channel being on the horizon since it has been an enjoyable ride. Interesting to see how Invoker changed over the years, but really funny to hear his name is Carl. I also find it pretty amazing he is so famous and powerful since he knows at least 10 spells, but it is really interesting since every other hero in Dota have so few spells, and most wouldn't be spells but racial/technological abilities taken to an extreme. I like how the world of Dota stays consistent with itself so well over so many years. Probably impossible correction to be made: 38:22 I thought my computer was lagging. weird animation glitch. 57:44 Wrong order on the scepter buff.

The video is awesome! However, for posterity, I'd like to point out that the Invoker we all know and love/hate today is a simplification of its original version in DotA 1. At 6.02, that single hero had 31 spells - no, you read right , thirty one spells. Quas Wex Exort was not the same as Exort Quas Wex. Imagine the gymnastics to use such a hero...

Peak invoker is QW clinkzvoker with phase+urn+orchid rush back in 2015. Sometimes I even go offlane against their AM and then get orchid + phase before his bfury, which then usually proceeded to a complete fucking nightmare for the AM.

the reason 6.86f dropped was because you can nuke any pos 1/2 with bkb in late game, especially in lvl 22 (having aghs back then grants you +1 on all orbs, getting the aoe def blast early). vurtune's combo is a good example of this. blink in to enemy, def blast, meteor, sunstrike, refresher, def blast, sunstrike (if it's a very tanky core, alacrity on urself for extra hits). of course, this only works in pubs, and also this combo is a high risk, high reward, and you have to perfectly execute your combo, or you will waste your refresher in the next teamfight. personally, i would love def blast to have a mini stun to mainly cancel out channeling spells, but not the knockback stun.

I dunno about higher elo back then but I think the change also addressed lower skilled Invoker players that were cheesing with the Euls+prepped Sunstrike and Meteor into Deafening Blast combo. My god I saw it everywhere whenever Invoker was picked. It was an embarrassingly low skill crutch Invoker players relied on and iirc after the deafening Blast nerfs, his pickrate tanked a bit as people couldn't cheese with that combo anymore.

Wasn't invoker called Kael in old Dota ? I assume for copyrights reasons Dota2 changed it Carl, that's such a bummer of a name from Kael the Invoker

As far as I know, that was his name, yes. But while the copyrights might have been an issue, the real reason why he is called Carl now might be that one day there were fake patch notes in Chinese. Someone Google translated these patch notes into English and it showed his name as "Carl." So for dota 2 they just made this his new official name.

You don't. 27 spells Invoker was so bad coz he could only Invoke 1 spell and even worse Invoke cool down was too high that you really cannot do 3 spell combinations at all. That many spells and yet he can't even cast them in quick succession not to mention only a handful of spells were highly prioritized as the others weren't good enough coincidentally 8 of those became part of his current Invoke spells.

There's more than 100 but this channel is telling the history of the most relevant heroes in the game and the goal of the channel is to show that old dota is just not the same as modern dota (not saying either is better, just both are different)
