The game of Basketball has been my passion since I was 5 years old. I grew up as a kid watching my dad's recorded VHS tapes of playoff games through the 70s and 80s, and collected all the Basketball cards. Something about the game and what it represents just hooked me from a very young age.
My love for the game only continues to grow as time goes on. I love studying and analyzing the game, with an unbiased perspective. Feel free to subscribe, follow me on social media, and celebrate this amazing game and it's rich history with me!
I post videos every week on NBA history, predictions, hypothetical scenarios and current NBA topics.

Has the NBA done enough to properly address the issue of flopping? NOTE: Just so you’re not confused, if some of this seems recognizable to you longtime viewers, it’s because I pulled a portion of a script from an older video, but then added everything about this current NBA season, that way we could have a full recap of flopping history.

Definitely not. They barley fine players for flopping. Honestly they should just straight up make it a technical if a replay reveals a player flopped

They haven't done enough. When it comes to the teams they want to push, IE the Lakers, they are allowed to get away with it as much as possible. In the rigged game against the Raptors it was clear as day that Lakers should have been called out far more but they didn't do that to protect LeBron's legacy.

When the most notorious floppers in the league are flopping nightly and we don't see headlines about them getting fined after we watch the games, see them obviously flopping, then see them joke about it on ESPN for a week, then no they're not doing enough to prevent it. Flopping goes viral, yet we never hear about fines.

As a Lithuanian who witnessed hundreds of games between either Lithuanian clubs/or national team and former Yugoslavian countries' clubs/national teams, I agree that flopping went mainstream in NBA with Vlade's arrival. As Lithuanian basketball fans we always saw former Yugoslavians flop and act to oblivion during the games. No suprise that Doncic, Jokic are mentioned in his video too :D In Europe it went to the point where the rest of the continent started to adopt such tactics too :(

In my opinion today's football is waaaay worse in flopping than current NBA, to the point where I watch ladies football, since women are there to play the game instead of flop. Going back to the point, flopping in Yugoslavian basketball teams was present since early 80s, at least that's when I started watching basketball

I know one thing they haven't tried to implement yet is a Penalty box like in Hockey. If the penalty for flopping, take-fouls, intentional & Flagrant 1s was a 30-45 second penalty box with no sub, then players would stop the bs. 2 or 3 possession sof 5on4 power play in the NBA would be interesting but I think it would be an effective measure to prevent the bs in the game.
@CrazyxEnigma
@CrazyxEnigma 4 ай бұрын
The Refs in Hockey are also made of sterner stuff. They'll scream back at players and tell them to STFU instead of calling techs whenever a player gets emotional or looks at them in a way they don't like. I'm sure it helps there's more former NHL players who become refs then there are former NBA players who become refs too.

The best way to deter is not to fine or even give a tech. It's to shame them. They need to be embarrassed into not doing it. Have the NBA release a weekly report of all the players who flopped and keep a tally. Let everyone know who is flopping the most that's less perception and more factual. Having the league that pays them millions calling them out will bother them a lot more than just fans .

If I had a dime for every time I've seen a game and thought that the defense is the only one who get fouls, I'd be a rich man. At one point, I thought it was OKAY for the offense to be as rough as they want, as long as someone doesn't fall. It just goes to show the problem. There has to be some equality of the floor so that the defense doesn't just become a poster or basketball doesn't just become an and-1 simulator.

His spot would've already been solidified by then. His later years were slower, less productive and riddled with a nagging back injury. After 86 he wasn't really adding to his legacy, only adding to his career totals. Which is fine, but his best years were in the early 80s. Plus players simply weren't playing as long back then, and their late career declines were more drastic. Sports Science & Medicine wasn't nearly as advanced so players were performing at peak levels physically for as long as they do today.

It will work if the refs actually enforced the rule. The opposing coach should be able to call a time out if there’s a suspected flop that the refs missed. It takes a minute to check the replay. If there was a flop, free throws and possession goes to the team calling the flop. If no flop, they burned their timeout. Players will get tired of of it really quick and will stop selling fake contact.

The nuance in making the destinction is obviously difficult to both capture and enforce, particularly in real time. That said, the distinction is important. Scottie pippin selling a charge, i distinctly recall was considered "smart basketball" by many NBA announcers.

This needs to be in addition to in-game technicals. Flops are ridiculous. They need to go. Non-flopper on offense, let the play continue until a score or turnover and THEN let them have the free throw and the ball back. Non-flopper on offense, negate any points gotten up until the next game is played.

They should extend the rule so that plays/calls can be reviewed after the game if egregious enough, and fine a player if they find a flop. Players like Embiid should be getting flopping technicals every night

As long as the NBA continues to enforce these creampuff rules, tit-for-tat fouls, and other aspects of the 2004 "Non-contact basketball" regime, flops are here to stay, no matter how much the players get whistled and fined for it, because ultimately, the rules forbid incidental contact, and therefore it's always going to be advantageous for players to sell that contact. You want to fix flopping, go back to the rules where virtually nobody did it.

Idk if the phrase "suckering an opponent into committing a foul" is completely equitable to flopping. The influence of soccer can't be understated.

Just as no majestic lion in the untamed wilderness feigns a limp to gull its unsuspecting prey, as no noble eagle falsifies the graceful arc of its ascent for inglorious ends, so should a basketball player of their magnitude refrain from sullying their sport's hallowed court with the dishonorable ruse of a common fraud. The magnificent choreography of basketball is not merely a frivolous game; it commands an unquenchable passion, a profound respect, and an unwavering honesty. Just as an orchestra can only perform symphonies when every instrument is perfectly tuned and in harmony, so too does this athletic symphony require each player to sync in a fluid, competitive dance that ebbs and flows with the rhythm of the game. Every pirouette, every feint, every soaring leap, and crushing downfall should echo the grit and soul of authentic competition. Excellence on the basketball court isn't merely about scoring points, it's a testament to the human spirit, an exhibition of factual strength, prowess, and fortitude. It isn't the place for feigned injuries or choreographed trickery masquerading as talent. Every play should stand tall as an emblem of truth, an undiluted display that neither bows to deception nor dishonors the great dance of basketball. It's a sacred stage where talent magnifies itself through honest competition, not through vulgar deceit reminiscent of a petty hustler's ploys.

It's funny. I remember watching Vlade in peak flop form when he was with the Kings. He would routinely stand just outside of the restricted zone, hands down to take a charge "defending" fast break and drive situations. Then he would jump backwards and slide like he got hit before the contact. Everyone knew it was going to happen. There was one game where the point guard of the opposing team got a steal from the Kings ball handler. Vlade had just passed the ball in bounds after a scored basket and the steal took place at half court. This meant that Vlade was all by himself. Now I'm not 100 percent sure, but I think it was Gary Payton. Anyways, whoever it was drove straight at Vlade. Vlade was hands down just outside of the restricted area, and right as the guard was about to make contact on the drive, he came to a dead stop, Vlade jumped backwards, the guard paused for half a second to laugh at him, and then shot an open lay up. To this day, it's the funniest thing that I've ever seen in an NBA game.

Yeah, you’re right, it wasn’t just for his NBA career, because that wouldn’t have been enough. Remember it’s the Basketball Hall of Fame, not the NBA hall of fame. He was a Yugoslav champion and won a FIBA cup. Being traded for Kobe and going to the Finals with Magic also helps in the fame department 😂
