Ironmouse has become the face of VShojo and Twitch VTubers, even before she did her subathon. Despite her circumstances, the girl powers through life with resolve as hard as iron. And in this video, we briefly go about her story and how she took over Twitch.

There's a significant part of her story that I haven't seen covered well, or at least, not all the pieces put together. Her mother had her at a relatively older age, unexpectedly. She's much younger than her siblings, and her parents are quite elderly at this point. They were never able to really retire because of her medical expenses. You noted that her channel started taking off right around March and April of 2020. That was exactly when the pandemic lockdowns started. As such, her parents couldn't continue to work, and didn't know how they would manage, and they had considerable debt. But Mouse got lucky for the first time in her life; her channel was taking off exactly when it needed to. She got partnered in May of 2020, and started taking over some of the bills, and her income continued exploding from there. Last Christmas, she paid off their house. She's moving into a new house in a few weeks, with more space and facilities to assist with her condition. It's worth noting just how early she was - she started in August of 2017, which is a few months before *Tokino Sora*. Her channel blew up in spring of 2020, several months before Myth debuted. She's also the exemplar of the potential of VTubing. The Internet has definitely created opportunities for the disabled, but using an avatar opens up more possibilities for more people. She's able to put on a concert while propped up in bed with an oxygen tube in her nose. Others with severe illnesses, disabilities, or severe disfigurement have the opportunity to rejoin the world in ways that wouldn't otherwise be possible.

I'm most definitely not a religious person, but that is absolutely nothing short of a miracle. One that came from world circumstances outside anyone's reach and a lot of hard work from Mouse. Also I'm absolutely impressed at how humble and reserved she is about not bringing up her seniority in the VTubing world; heck, even MORE impressive, in ENVTubing world at such an early stage. I guess it's tacky and snooty to bring it up but having that title is absolutely impressive and respectable to me.

Ironmouse dynamic with Connor is something unique While she treats everyone with care, the monke gets... a different treatment But his message during her birthday made me cry though And then there's him showing Japan to her through a camera since she's unable to go around due to health reason Everytime these two do a collab, it always makes me smile both the banter and the bond they have is simply irreplacable

I think the thing that makes it so special is that you can just tell they really are best friends even off camera despite being so different and existing in completely separate spheres and halfway across the world. But unlike a lot of content creators who are really close and usually know each other from before they even started making content and spend a lot of time together irl, you can basically watch Connor and Mouse's relationship develop from the first time they met until today and pretty much all of it is documented since Mousey pretty much lives on stream. It's like watching a friendship grow in real time and that's very unique and wholesome.

If you want to see one of their first official collabs, you can look up Lewdcast Podcast on KZbin and you can see Connor when he was a guest - in Vtuber form no less. Also Takahata right before he debuted too. (This is the influence of Mouse, Silver and Melody) - other people see opportunity and join like Takahata and his group (Cimrai, Froggy, so forth and so on), It's also the basis for Vshojo as everyone except Froot and Hime were guests on lewdcast

There's no one that loves VTubers and VTubing as much as Ironmouse. She is constantly supporting artists in the community by commissioning models and assets, makes entire streams about showcasing and promoting smaller VTubers in the community, promoting the medium to people outside in interviews and her talk show, and even promoting other big players like Hololive and Nijisanji debuts on her streams. Her streams start with a starting soon screen filled to the bream with VTubers and ends with a scrolling reel filled with even more VTubers, her backgrounds have lots of references to the VTuber friends she made along the way. Her lore videos had cameos from both Hololive and Nijisanji as well as smaller indie VTubers. Every stream she does brings others along with her. Every milestone she hits, she shares with the rest of the community. Every article or interview she gets, she shows how magical and life changing the medium can be. That sincere love of VTubing and VTubers themselves is what makes one of the best things that ever happened in this industry.

This is so true. She also just loves people and wants everyone to have fun. She ran that contest recently for the precious family mascot, and she was sincerely heartbroken that not everyone could win, to the point of crying. She's also so accepting and understanding, never assuming ill will of anyone. It's why she's such a great ambassador. There was the incident where Asmongold said some things that people took as attacking VTubers, and he got some heat from it. She just decided to bring him on her show. People thought there would be drama, but then they just hung out and chatted and had fun for a couple hours. The preconceptions of Asmon's audience were turned on their heads. "Oh, that's not what I expected... She's actually just a cool person." It was great.

@Versatile As she’s said a few times (& as someone who suffers from chronic pain, I can fully relate) : at some point you just get used to feeling like crap everyday, and you manage to get yourself functional in spite of it. Then when you start feeling better, suddenly it’s like walking around with weights finally being removed from your legs, and you get more energetic than how you were before. You can see it especially when Mouse uses her “opera voice”: At first, she could barely go thru a whole minute without running out of breath & wearing out her vocal cords. But after years of finally getting enough money to pay for continuous plasma transfusions & physical therapy, she’s able to gain a lot more of her former strength, and can use her “opera voice” for entire 4min songs now. And to answer your question of “if you are ill, how can you work?” - Streaming just requires putting your face in front of a camera & moving your mouth & arms. Much less work compared to driving to an office (hence the spike in ppl working desk jobs from home), and especially compared to jobs that require lots of physical movement & muscle strength. :P

This is Roxy's note to Ironmouse for her 4th anniversary stream. Roxy is the head of her moderating team, and something of a legend in the community. "Approximately 4 years ago, late into the wee hours of the night, I was dealing with my usual bout of insomnia. I decided to surf the interwebs and ended up logging on to 'Streaming Company Not Worth Mentioning'. It was there where a thumbnail of an 'anime girl' got my attention. So I clicked on it and to my surprise I heard the sweetest little voice expressing some very heart-breaking feelings. I found myself unable to click out of the stream and wanted to know more about this sweet girl on my screen. This kind, funny, sassy girl had me hook, line and sinker. I ended up watching her as frequently as possible and with every stream I became more aware of just how incredibly talented she was and I just knew she was destined to be a star. Fast forward to August 2021 and this same gifted girl has amassed thousands of beloved fans that have fallen in love with her heart, just as I did all those years ago. My sweet, kind, caring, generous, selfless, loving Tiniest Mojo, you have come so far and with every milestone I cheer you on in the background filled with so much overwhelming joy and excitement for you. Your hard work and determination has made all this possible and I know there is a lot more success to come for you. You are the embodiment of grit and resolve and you have become a beacon of light and hope for your community. I'm so very fortunate to know someone like you and to have someone like you in my life. Here's to 4 more or 400 more years of success, and many years of being a thorn in your side, defending all you have built. Happy anniversary my pocket-sized ray of sunshine! You deserve all that is good in this world. I love you dearly. - Roxy" Her prediction of "destined to be a star" is right on the money. Ironmouse is kind, inspiring, funny, and talented, but she also has that X-factor, star-power charisma that makes her addicting to watch. She's a gravitational force. It's no wonder she's friends with everyone, and in many ways, become the center of the Vtubing universe. She's one of relatively few people who can collaborate with anyone; flesh-tubers, indies, Nijisanji, any branch of Hololive, etc. Who else has cameos from both Nijisanji and Hololive in their lore video and channel trailer?

I think what iron mouses story can teach us is that there are always opportunities you have no matter the situation and as long as you keep looking for a way to better your situation you will find it and sometimes that curse you had with enough effort might just turn into a blessing.

@@kyleleehufnagel It's not really luck. Hard work and talent can pay off given enough time. The longer you work at it, the more chances you have to get your break. It took Ironmouse two and a half years to get her break. Luck becomes a factor for someone who can't put in the years of effort that might be required. But Ironmouse couldn't have a job or social life, so she had the time. She also had charisma and training in the performing arts, and the wisdom from facing hardship and having way too much time alone with her thoughts.

@@fwiffo you just described “getting lucky.” That’s what a break is; getting lucky. Hard work is a requirement for anyone to succeed (for those who don’t otherwise have wealth or power already.) Hard work itself doesn’t create success, you need to get lucky on top of that hard work. Labor + Opportunity = “success.” Hell the hardest workers I’ve ever known are people struggling doing retail jobs for 9 bucks an hour. They certainly ain’t succeeding, they are barely even keeping their head above water and in most cases they aren’t even doing that.

Honestly, Ironmouse changed the concept of Vtubing in my eyes. Before I knew about her, I kinda felt like Vtubing was just a weird thing to me. The first Vtuber I remember ever watching was Veibae playing Fall Guys, and I just thought it was so weird. I didn’t see the point of having a 2D avatar instead of just your own face. But after I learned about her condition, I really sat down and thought about what it means to be a Vtuber, or at least what it means to use an avatar. Seeing Connor go to her favorite park just for her made me feel some kind of way. Seeing her hug Nyanners in VR Chat was so sweet, I couldn’t just chalk it up to “cringe”. This is a girl who has stayed far away from people her whole life, and very rarely leaves her bedroom. I myself don’t know how it feels to want a hug that badly, but seeing HER get it after all those years…I couldn’t just glance the other way and act like it didn’t happen. To some, yes, Vtubing can just be an “Ok I guess I’ll do it” kind of addition to streaming. And that’s fine. But to me, it’s a way to express yourself and connect to others in a completely new way. There ARE people out there just like her who wish they could talk to someone, who wish they could see others, who wish they had the equipment to even talk to one other person. And when I think about Vtubing never existing, that would mean Mousey would be lonely again. Nobody to talk to, nobody to even see or hear. But I believe her relationship with Connor says it all right there. Without Vtubing, where would she be? It’s thanks to technology that she can be part of society again. And she’s SO happy about it, still willing to give back to the community with fundraisers and donations, and still smiling despite her CVID. I remember a quote from one girl (forgot who) and she said “I can be sad and paralyzed, or happy and paralyzed, but either way I’m paralyzed. So I’ll be happy.” I like to think that applies here as well. Mousey didn’t let CVID have a permanent grasp on her life. She’s still having so much fun and living to the fullest She said it herself on a stream: Frail like a mouse, but a heart made of iron. That’s why Mousey is the best. And Queen of VShojo ❤

To my memory, silvervale and ironmouse got the real boost into the spotlight from melody, after melody started streaming on twitch. Melody's brief headline of pissing off normal camgirls by getting way more money as a vtuber on the sight hit the west several months before hololive would see much western popularity. Melody ended up very frequently doing stuff with silver and mouse like starting lewdcast and they did pretty well. Then after months of this solid success, the perfect storm hit. Hololive had also impacted the western internet and at the same time, nyanners had started vtubing, someone who already had a fair amount of successful history on the internet and a sizeable audience. When silver, mouse and melody collabed with nyanners (on fall guys IIRC), that was the beginning of what would become vshojo. From there, she had great success and as you covered got further boosts from the dynamic with connor and from the subathon. I still think one of the most heartwarming clips of all time was when mouse was doing a donation goal to buy a better setup for her room and they reached the goal in the first few seconds while mouse was explaining it and she was so happy she cried. If that doesn't make you feel something, you're made of stone.

Mousey is genuinely one of the most deserving of success content creators out there. She is so humble and genuine and you can tell how much she loves vtubing and the community and how much she tries to give back. And it's also obvious that she was never in it for the money despite needing it more than most creators, she clearly just genuinely loves it and I'm sure even if she was still streaming to 15 viewers she'd be doing it anyway. Mousey is the ambassador for vtubing because she wants to be, it's something she is so passionate about to the point where every time she talks to someone outside the community she always is trying to convince them to become a vtuber, because she knows better than anybody the real meaning and value of the medium. And yeah, she's been at it forever, even before SORA, which is impressive in its own right. As a vtuber fan it's hard to see her genuine passion and not like her, and even for a normie she is the clearest example of what the medium has to offer that is genuinely special and one of a kind and is able to show them the value of vtubing in a way that no one else can. Her interview with Doctor K is the prime example, so many people in the comments said that they always had negative opinions about vtubers but she changed their minds.

The old time ironmouse will always be a treasure for me... it was a nice time when you dont really have much things in your face and just see her and talk to her. i have a parasocial one sure but it was a vibe where i feel like i was actually talking to someone... even when she has nothing grand like any vtubers, just the connection with her being a geek and all just resonates me and will always be a memory i hold most... though good times comes to an end for me... as she grows bigger, more stuff has pile up one after another, where now is just complete different. while i myself have often gatekeep it so hard in the past because of fearing losing the one i care for, Eventually it's just a reality where i have to accept and admit defeat... ironmouse for me was never really the most entertaining, usually i just be the blind idiot that claps on anything that she does, call everything she makes an amazing masterpiece despite really not enjoying much at all and just cope my way for her, the only thing that i love about her was the connection...though Ironmouse got actual friends now, meanwhile im slowly mushing in the massive numbers no matter how much of an early fan i was... it would just mean nothing to her in the end... so is it worth it for me? i think that to myself... I felt like me and ironmouse was the two geek friends who used to hangout but later she became the popular kid and as more people surrounding her, im slowly pushed further away... maybe a bit weird for that comparison, maybe i dunno alright... im just an idiot as a clown probably... Im glad to be called as such because i feel like i deserve it... it's my fault for being a pathethic loser, afterall... Nowadays, im just not really vibing with her recent stuff, even the 5th year anniversary was not really hyping me enough to go back watching her... i dont like the lore, and the models was just not for me... no matter how the people on the internet would like to convince me otherwise, like i said, she's not the same ironmouse i love and have been a fan of... though god forbid for you to say anything bad about her... "they all just being mean to me blah blah" is something i can tell from a mile away to which i dont really care now, i'm just happy she can step ahead with a bright smile on her face... having her bright smile for the future is good enough for me... will I ever enjoy watching her one day? maybe... if there's something really blows me away but from what im seeing i dont really think i would come back to vshojo in general anytime soon even... I have lost my enjoyment with her streams but i'm sure some people can have their own enjoyment from her current ones regardless... life is short, so enjoy the little things as much as you can.

She's a real life Komi san, and I guess Connor is her Tadano. Jokes aside though, that's the reason I follow her, for many, you follow because they're cute, funny, entertaining, but for her, aside from those, you can't help but admire the strength of her character. Life took everything from her and still wasn't able to keep her down. She stared into the abyss and proceeded to punch it in the face. What's not to like about that?
