I think Kikyo is kagome. They are the same. Their dynamic is more than just "oh shes my boyfriend's ex", It transcends life and time. Everything kikyo has done, (loving inuyasha, chosing to die for inuuasha) was what Kagome had already done(cause she is kikyo). Originally, Kikyo and inuyasha were fated never to end up together. It was only through kikyo's goodness and selfless acts did the universe (not the jewel) that granted her her wish to see inuyasha again. Kikyo was able to thwart both the jewel and destiny, resulting in kagome being able to return to the feudal era. Ultimately, kagome was the one left with the decision of what she wanted to do: letting go of inuyasha and the feudal era. Seeing "dead kikyo"( "dead kikyo" is not the real kikyo) she is reminded of her own purpose in being in the fedual era: to purge the jewel and return to her time. Ultimately she has to go home. Her uneasiness of kikyo is actually her inner conflict of learning to let go of her past life, part of which includes inyuyasha. Seeing this walking memory of herself( the reanimated kikyo) she too is reminded that she doesn't belong in inuyasha world. However this mindset changes as kagome and inuyasha bonded together on their many adventures and ultimately she learns that being with inuyasha is also her purpose as well. Which probably ine of the reasons she was able to return through the well again in the end.

I too look at them as the same, which they're clear examples of them being so in the manga/anime. But the way it was written it was set up for you to look at them as two different people mainly for drama/entertainment purposes. I like how you connected the future and past as one character in a way (hopefully that's the interpretation you were going for) as i have a video that will pretty much run the same direction connecting the two as one.

@@ignatheus It has a beautiful bittersweet taste to it once you see kagome and kikyo as one. Watching the flashbacks of kikyo and inuyasha, you feel sad but you clap back to the present in the story and realize that it was a happy story. I think the best episode to express this connection is the episode "kikyo's lonely journey". The theme in the episode highlights the irony of fate and destiny. That along with the "affections touching across time" ost, you just feel a sense of relief and wholeness. "Being true and letting go of negativity will always pull you through" is the best lesson learned from inuyasha.

No Please Don't…… Takahashi has said so many times that Kagome and Kikyo are NOT the same. Although Kagome and Kikyo share a same tamashi, their soul are different, they are different people. Kagome is Kagome, Kikyo is Kikyo. Reincarnation is just a setting simply shows how Kagome got her power and how Kikyo could revive.

I love this type of videos, you have talent for this!! I always believed Kikyo and Kagome are not the same person. That idea that someone is born just to fulfill someone else's task just doesn't sit right with me. Granted, they have the same soul, but that doesn't make them identical, they are still different people. At least that's how I see it, and even Inuyasha said it in the manga "Kagome is Kagome, there's no replacement for you.."

It's really sad honestly, Kikyo and Kagome are the same entity- they aren't the same 'person' but they share a soul and all the energy that comprises that soul- so they're essentially the same being. But Kikyo herself is pretty much just the resentment and anger she held onto right as she died and believed Inuyasha betrayed her, she's mostly just stuck being upset and bitter about the world, and Inuyasha- even when learning Naraku was the entire reason for any of the pain she and him went through to begin with. And I believe that while she constantly reflects on her past life with him, and her duty as a priestess and remembers how close she felt to being a normal girl with a man she loved more than anything- how close she was to being able to let go of the burdens of pure Priesthood and protecting the Shikon jewel, so she could live the rest of her days as a simple woman in love. She never got that in her life time, it was cruely ripped away, and she was killed by a person disguised as a man who she thought loved her more than anything else, and who convinced her that he would rid her both of her constant burden of keeping the Shikon safe, and the burden of being vassal of purity. Her aspirations in what she wanted in life- her sentimentality that she so desired- were denied to the point she died over them and felt a resentment so deep for the person who 'ruined' her that she never truly overcame it or let go of it, even when reason reared it's head and disproved her prior notions. So when she sees her love ( Inuyasha) once again- and sees he's with a person exactly like how she wanted to be in her life- a person who shares her everything; a soul, her lover and quite litterally is replacing her and continuously taking her sliver of soul _away_ - of course Kikyo would despise Kagome for being _everythinh_ she herself longed for... Without being her... Kagome is that carefree lovely girl Kikyo always wanted to be herself and it has to hurt- and hurt a fucking lot- to see Inuyasha keep in-between herself and Kagome and realize that he's slipping from her, even if it was just a bit. And yes after her revival to the world it was mostly just hatred and bitterness towards him for the longest time; but she was in a battle for him and she knew she was never going to win. So yes, the love triangle over Inuyasha because of Kikyo's revival and her souls reincarnation as Kagome is one of the most tragic things ever.

That’s not what happened. Kikyo loved inuyasha as he was but her powers were waning because of the love she had for him. She hurt her little sister and her village got attacked by demons, so she saw it as killing two birds with one stone. She wouldn’t have to worry about protecting the jewel from demons and could live her romance with inuyasha.

one things I learned from watching inuyasha it goes back and forth with the narrative especially when it comes to the main characters and their character development we know that it all works out the end and most of them does get a happy ending and you do bring up some good points especially with the relationship between these two ladies remember when kikiyo died with the Shaker Jewel she made a wish on it she made a wish to come back to life, to be an ordinary girl and to see inuyasha one more time, the sacred jewel granted this for her in the form of kagome which brought her back to inuyasha which means her wish did that granted however when she came back to life and got to see her wish with her own eyes it became kind of ironic and tragic that there's she saw her wish came true she just never imagined she would see it for on the outside and rather than the inside meaning she wished that she was kagome and the back and forth narrative of the story that's reflect this manner we know that a lot of the fan base didn't like that they keep going back and forth between the details of their relationships but you got to admit it was never boring and each character did find peace in their own way both for Kikiyo and Kogome.

Since I started this series in my earliest childhood watching it on TV I was like "ugh Kikyo is the bad girl" but the more I grew up, also reading the manga, rewatching the series over and over again through the years, I started to understand why Kikyo acted that way. There's an episode that Inuyasha asked Kikyo to come with them. Then she looked at Kagome and i think she see how hurt Kagome will be. Then she just said that "I wish i will come" They understand each other so much. I rewatched it yesterday then I realized they care about each other feelings. Kikyo and Kagome is one. I also agree that Kikyo and Kagome should have had their closure moments in the end too. Acknowledging each other for sharing a soul and the bond they share. This would have cleared up this stupid fight over who is the better woman or who Inuyasha loves more. The thing is without Kikyo there would be no Kagome. Without Kikyo falling in love with Inuyasha and sparing his live and wanting to meet him again there would be no InuKag or Moroha or the entire Inuyasha series! I want people to understand that the essence of the whole story is that Kikyo and Inuyashas love somehow overcomes time in the form of Kagome being born and being able to travel to the Sengoku era. Kikyo is not a bad person and equal to Kagome in kindness and any way. The Kikyo post death is merely a clay shell only filled with hate, sadness and vengeance ( Stated by Urasue. Kagome claimed the other part of the soul back ). Thats why she is such a jerk in the rest of the story!!! She sacrificed a lot, the villagers and children love and respect her. If I wasnt allowed to show emotions, weakness or any other human needs ( such as friendships or love) , I would get bitter as hell...but she doesnt. I agree that Kagome is everything Kikyo would have been if her live circumstances would have been optimal. I also noticed that it doesnt help that in the anime Kagome got all the "gurlygurl cute anime waifu features" like a stubby nose , wider round eyes and weavy hair. Of course fangirls would prefer such an appearance. Kikyo was drawn very mature, having kinda droopy eyes and those straight bangs man. This is such a psychological influence!!!! Poor Kikyo but an outstanding, fearless woman never the less.

Kikyo and InuYasha are both aware of their situation. But Kikyo during the first encounter, she doesn't care because at the end of the day she's dead. Once she learns exactly why and how it happened ( plus finding out the jewel is still around); She decides to go off and finish her original task and deal with the jewel. She is right back at square one sadly a slave to her duty. Granted I like to look at Kagome as a wish or life fulfilled dream for Kikyo, where she actually obtains her wishes.

Kagome brought out the best in Inuyasha. Kikyo falling in love with Inuyasha was essentially a curse and it ruined (ended) her life, and of course it also got Inuyasha sealed away for 50 years. Inuyasha and Kikyo barley trusted each other, and didn’t hesitate to instantly turn on each other without even trying to question that maybe someone was trying to get between them. Inuyasha’s relationship with Kagome feels more natural, and again, she brings out a better side of him.

Kagome is Kikyo reincarnation. Different people same soul. So in Inuyasha’s defence, he is simply wanting to be with his soul mate. The fact is Kikyo was tricked and died. She shouldn’t be able to live at the same time as Kagome. Kikyo’s insecurities about Inuyasha was ultimately her down fall. Even with all her spiritual power she saw Narakus shape shifting inuyahsa and believed he betrayed her immediately. The whole point of reincarnation is for the soul to grow and learn. Which is why Kagome has more faith in Inuyasha than Kikyo did. Bearing in mind Kagome is a 14 year old from the present day. Of course she’s insecure. I think it just has to do with the different environment the 2 grew up in. That’s where inuyasha/kikyo downfall is (their lack of trust) and Naraku took advantage of their weakness

@@chickie171 It wasn't because she was in love that she was weakened, it was a curse put on her by her rival priestess, the one that nearly kills Kagome. She warned her that she'd cursed her, and that if she fell in love it would be her downfall. Kikyo wasn't concerned at the time because she felt her duties as a priestess prevented the sort of intimacy that leads to love.

It seems to me the writer didn't know what to do with Kikyo after a certain point. She was far more interesting early in the series and just seem to gradually fade in importance. And then getting "killed" and coming back, then killed again and coming back, and then just expiring altogether without being there to finish Naraku and the destroy the jewel . . . I would not have written the conclusion of her story that way.

Thanks I hope you enjoyed the video. I went ahead and made a close captions for you.. took a while but it's finished haha. Now She followed him to death as it stated in the manga. Even Naruku wasn't expecting it, hence (5:26 those are scans you can pull from the books) he curses InuYasha for making her do such a thing. Naraku was planning on getting the jewel back but she wanted to die along side him. Episode 149 isn't canon but lets pretend that it is. When I say die with him it's not in the context of both of them going to the after life as lovers. It was more so you die and I die type of thing. Kikyo did love him deeply so she wasn't planning on staying alive after that. Which she actually wanted to see him again even as her final thoughts upon death... hence is how Kagome is born. Kikyo isn't completely selfless hence why all of this happened.

As analysis, the connection of Kagome with Kikyo, is like the connection of Kairi with Namine of Kingdom Hearts. In the sense that Kikyo and Namine are basically people lacking from a soul and a heart respectively, as result that "their" soul and heart belongs to other people, Kagome and Kairi. Leading as result, Kikyo and Namine have conflicts regarding their own existences, as they think that Kagome and Kairi are their true selves, while they are only a copies of the other girls. Adding that Kikyo and Namine were responsibles to caused some problems with the relationships of Kagome and Kairi with their respectives love interests, Inuyasha and Sora. As Kikyo caused that Inuyasha had conflicts regarding who he loves with his heart, Kikyo or Kagome, while Namine once erased Sora's memories, particulary about Kairi, and planted falses memories in their place, putting herself in the place Kairi, making that Sora only could think in Namine, and couldn't remembered Kairi. Though that this issues are solved in the end, as Inuyasha ended choosing Kagome, while Namine restores Sora's memory and allows him remember Kairi again.

The manga was ongoing during those years. And if you look at the original release dates for when those were released she clearly took that scene from the anime. And there are a few moments that actually have similar effects, as if it inspired her to add it into our version. Maybe she disagreed with how they did it in the anime.

Yes it's stated as this was the reason. Naraku even mocks her for it which sets inuyasha off. He didn't truly die no but he was meant to stay there forever. Had kagome( kikyo) not removed it, no one else could have.

I think it was a mistake to make them look nothing alike. It removed so much nuance and complexity from everyone around them. Naraku, Inuyasha, Kaede, Kikyou, and Kagome themselves, Kagome's family and how Kagome interacts with them after being thrust unceremonously into the past, lastly, most importantly, the jewel itself. The jewel preyed on them both.

You know this love triangle between Inuyasha, Kagome, and Kikyo is very underrated because of Naruto. Many people wanted to see Naruto either end up with Hinata or Sakura and even though the manga has been over for 7 years, people who wanted Naruto to be with Sakura are still keeping it going and saying that Naruto loves Sakura and his love for Hinata is a big lie because he is under genjutsu. That is why the love triangle in Inuyasha is underrated because of the love triangle in Naruto and in Naruto, Pierrot was doing a lot of filler episodes which had some moments between Naruto and the 2 young ladies. Even though Sunrise messed somethings up with Inuyasha, at least they didn't drop the ball big time like Toei did with Sailor Moon Sailor Stars which was a train wreck. Because Toei could have had Helios from Super S return and give Mamoru The Golden Crystal in the 1st Arc of Sailor Stars just like how Serenity gave Usagi The Silver Crystal in the 1st Arc of R. Also Toei should have let Mamoru, Chibi Usa, and Diana stay in the 2nd Arc of Sailor Stars and let Mamoru have a rivalry with Seiya, because that would have been an epic Love Triangle for the 1990s just like how Inuyasha and Naruto. To make things more dramatic if Toei had let Mamoru stay, there could have been tension between him and Seiya which would had made the rivalry between Kagome and Kikyo look tame and Usagi would have been conflicted between Mamoru and Seiya just like how Inuyasha was between Kagome and Kikyo.

I can see your point but 7:40 you lose me ….kikyo saved kagome from drowning…….she wouldn’t have been drowning or at risk if she didn’t exhaust all her energy healing her. But what motivated you to do all that shit. It was wasn’t shit that came out of rainbows or prue and good I’ll say that…moving on) but point aside she add to his strength with some dumb plan to purify the jewel when it’s whole…..like wouldn’t it have been I’m everyone’s best interest in the gang gathered the majority of the jewel…than it wouldn’t have needed to be purified in the end…Not to trust inuyasha who she knows didn’t actually kill her was stupid and kagome probably cause she feels she is better than her but a Demon who than uses those shard and chuck really of the jewel to kill and hurt more people. Don’t care if she helped a few kids and showed kindness to random people blah blah blah there is blood on her hands. The blood and lives naraku killed and hurt in some way. She needed a reality check. I get the tragedy that she suffered but she was corrupted too either by anger, envy or pride, much of which stem from kagome and her injustices in life. One thing I can say is Kagome didn't ask Inuyasha to become human. She was completely okay with him being a half demon! She was excepting of him as he was. All of the foolery started when Kikiyou presented the idea of Inuyasha becoming human. She essentially wanted to change the essence of who he was so they could be together. Why did a change have to take place for them to be together. Kagome asked not nothing other than Inuyasha to acknowledge his feelings if any for her. Just my thoughts.

Well Kikyo's main reason for this was b/c it would release her from her duties as a jewel priestess/protector, and it also would be overall better for that world. If Inuyasha used the jewel to become a human instead of a full youkai, the jewel would be purified and disappear and she would be a normal woman, free to be with him. She didn't think it was possible to share a life with him if protecting the Shikon Jewel was her life duty. Him becoming human was like a bonus I guess

She may not have been alone in her duty to protect the jewel with Inuyasha. He would have shared in that task with her and they would have both become stronger as one unit. Overall, especially when she was alive, Kikyou was always paranoid about her enemies spotting her weaknesses so she didn't want to let her guard down by being in love as a priestess. She was just feeling suffocated and Inuyasha provided an escape from that, so deep down her reasons were indeed rooted in selfishness. I guess I can't blame her for that - living as a priestess must be exaustive AF (she was forced to surpress all her emotions her whole life), and it's a type of life Kagome never experienced before meeting Inuyasha (which is why she felt free to love him with much less restraint). One thing I never wrapped my head around was their life spam (and that counts for Kagome) - I mean with Inuyasha being a half demon he'll live on for hundreds of years while they both would die of old age pretty soon (one of the reasons I thought he agreed to be human, so he would live a shorter life but fully with her). But in Rumiko's world characters don't physically age lol so I guess Kagome will at least die looking young and pretty in her 90's.

I don’t understand why inuyasha is in love with kikyou in the first place.. could someone please explain it to me?! In this video he mentions that Inuyasha wanting to become human for kikyou is a good thing, because he’s willing to make that “𝑠𝑎𝑐𝑟𝑖𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑒”. But, you shouldn’t have to make a “𝑠𝑎𝑐𝑟𝑖𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑒” in the first place, if she loves you then she should just be able to except you the way you are, Inuyasha has had to live his entire life as a half demon, that’s who he is! She wants him to change, which I don’t think is very right. If kikyou doesn’t love the fact that he’s half demon, like kagome does, they are not meant to be. And that’s why I don’t understand why Inuyasha loves her in the first place. I mean, I see nothing alluring about kikyou besides the fact that she’s pretty, she acts like she’s inuyasha’s mother most of the time they’re together, like she’s a higher standard than he is. To add to that, Inuyasha is funny and snarky sometimes, I feel as if if he made a joke with kikyou, she just wouldn’t get it. She doesn’t seem like the type. One more thing, has anyone else noticed that she fights perfectly fine and well when she’s by herself, or with kagome, but when Inuyasha steps into the picture, she either faints, acts like she’s dying, or just straight up tsundere style ignores him. Good questions. I typed up a set of paragraphs explaining things then i remembered i'm gonna release a video that contains all of that haha. But to keep things short until the video comes out, InuYasha didn't HAVE to do it. He WANTED to for her. She isn't Kagome remember. Kikyo can't be a normal woman if the jewel is still here. The main villain of the series isn't Naraku it's the Jewel. Hence why no one can be happy as long as it's around. InuYasha was going to take it out. This has nothing to do with her not loving him completely as if she didn't it wouldn't make sense as i'll explain in depth later. Why he loves her? Because Kikyo isn't like every girl ( For the same reason you're confused on why he loves her is exactly why he does). lol but really she's an outcast like him. They relate to each other. She helps or begins to change him. (At least before she dies) Why does she seem weak when he's around? Depends on what part of the series you're talking about. Earlier in the series Kikyo is super powerful but by later she is is weakened. So every time he runs after her she's barely standing or trying to be strong. He'll nah kikyo was not strong! If you actually paid closer attention, kikyo was just always deemed as strong because of her spiritual powers. As She said it herself, inside she was just a " ordinary" woman, but she couldn't reveal herself as such. If you look at the way she battles, her tactics are always to lower her opponents guard before landing the final blow. To the likes of tsubaki, kikyo skills were probably inferior. People fail to realize that when she was alive, she was surviving on a thread, constantly being attack by demons left and right. It also didn't help that the country was in a period of war time. Humans and demons raided villages continuously and people died left and right. Kikyo grew up in violence, yet still found the courage to stay strong for the village and her sister. It was obvious kikyo was always doom to die early, and that was something that was to be expected. Her chance of survival doubled down even more when she received the jewel. Yet Kikyo continued her duties. Depression eventually took kikyo's life, not naraku. Kikyo was just a very resourceful person and that was strength that people saw in her. Why did inuyasha fall in love with her? go watch ep 15 and you'll know why! Its as plan as day!

She approached her hoping to take the sacred Jewel from her and tried to attack her from behind and all Kikyo did in defense was send her own attack back at her with her bow alone. Kikyo continued to be strong even after her death without the help of the sacred Jewel anymore either, so much to the point where Kagome felt inferior to her not only because of Inuyashas love for her but strength too. The country being in a period of war where the life expectancy is 30 from harsh living conditions, sickness and famine and you have characters like.kikyo able to stay alive for as long as she did says alot. Especially at just 15 years young. Just because she was doomed to die early doesn't make her weak either, Kikyo's character alone is strength in itself.

Kikyo never really got to see the real Inuyasha, never listened to his desires, just trapped him in an obsessive love because she had lost her control over the miko powers. Both of them have seen Inuyasha from different sides. This is actually what Kagome notices as she was always insured of Kikyo because of their history. Point out what you're referring to when you say she doesn't listen to his desires. How do you trap someone into love? Their romance is setup because they're both outcast. She understood him better than anyone in the series because of that. She lost powers because she fell in love which results in her soul being in balanced ( remember the cave scene with Miroku explaining how souls work) Miko's are just perfectly balanced and have to reject all human desires. Naraku WANTED her to heal herself. Good thing she didn't. Had she done so she would have been doing exactly what the jewel wanted and Naraku wins. Her LOVE transcended her desire to live. The seal wasn't going to be broken because she was going to die. She pretty much killed him. Kagome DID the exact same thing at the end of the series. She didn't fall for the jewels selfish wishes. You're too busy bashing Kikyo and forgetting who and what Kagome is. She's literally Kikyo's LOVE and DREAMS personified.

They literally dragged Kikyo WAY too long in the series, he should’ve never kissed her in front of Kagome, I get she opened him up a little, but he was way more development with Kagome and to put her through that completely ruins their whole relationship even if their married and have a daughter. I love his relationship with his daughter but Kagome deserves better than him. She should’ve left with Koga after that deep kiss he had.... would’ve been a way better ending of me and Moroha could’ve been Koga’s daughter. Inuyasha doesn’t deserve a woman.
