@@AlexanderMarchesaine Because Zeus had the highest authority to punish both Poseidon & Athena. Zeus could have demanded that Poseidon sacrifice one of his oceanic creatures. Zeus could then have remolded the creature by transferring Medusa's soul into dead vessel of Poseidon's creature. Thus transforming her into Mermaid/Humanoid queen of an aquatic colony. As for the soul of the dead creature. Medusa would birth twins from the soul. Eventually she would mate with various men from the land above. Because she was eager to create a civilizatión. She would remain yourthful & fertile for hundreds of years. Neither Athena or Poseidon were allowed to interfere with her destiny. Because they were restricted by Zeus's mandatory jurisdiction.

@@PazzoScansafatiche Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades could not punish each other. Their powers were as great as each other, they were the three chains that kept pulling on each other so they wouldn't go around and destroy the whole universe. Zeus could not punish Poseidon because it wasn't his place, unless Hades agreed to punish him. Because Hades hated his brothers, he would let them ruin themselves. Besides, this isn't even the original story, it's a rip off from the Romans whom hated Neptune cause they feared the ocean. They also hated Minerva(Athena) because in Greece they loved her but hated Mars(Ares) whom the Roman's loved and adored. So in retaliation that Greece had given Ares a bad reputation, they decided to give Poseidon and Athena a bad one as well.

Then the goddess scandalize her name, character, and drew images of her w red evil looking eyes and snakes in her hair. She didn't want him but he force himself to do that to medusa... this is one reason I don't blame medusa for doing all the bad things she's done! It's not her fault that she's beautiful, it was a gift but because of Athena jealousy and all mans cowardness and stupidness, she become a monster! If I had to choose between Athena and medusa, I would choose medusa and curse on Athena... and one thing, there is no one that perfect, Athena herself is not perfect, she is a hero but she's not perfect and medusa also is not perfect but she's innocent

Some stories say that Athena cursed Medusa for her protection and others say that it was because she was jealous of her and punished the wrong person. Whatever the reason was, Medusa was the one badly effected by it. She was an outcaste and seen as a monster, while Poseiden(don't know how to spell his name) was not punished at all. Sometimes Greek gods can be total jerks (according to their stories and mythologies).The sad thing is, some of the misuse of power and punishing the victims in mythologies happens in real life too.

I seen be answering this question quite a lot, Perseus is not the son of Poseidon he's the son of Zeus. If you're basing your argument on the Percy Jackson book series that's fine. In books Percy Jackson is the son of Poseidon but the books and Percy Jackson as a character are made up by the author, they might be influenced by Greek mythology but there quite a few things that have been changed. Percy Jackson does not exist in Greek mythology if we are talking about the hero Perseus he is the son of Zeus and Danae.

Mythology & Fiction Explained I never understood that either. Percy jackson is based off of greek mythology and maybe the authors target audience swears by it. It's best to read about the actual mythologies b/c they're very fascinating but if you don't want to read the books there's a series called Clash of the Gods that explores the greek myths very well. It's not restricted to those myths as there's an episode about Beowulf and I think Thor(not the Marvelized version)

the lesson is that there is always a reason behind the antagonist. like its not like they wanted to be bad. sometimes they just ended up becoming one and the ironic thing is sometimes its the fault of the the protagonist. dunno if people get my point. ok ill shut up now...

Kinelle gurll, I agree with your statement. The United States 🇺🇸 criminal justice system is good like that. Turning all black people into criminals. Planting of drugs by cops and many others.

An other (maybe romanticized ) interpretation to the story is this: Athena changed medusa in a monster so she could protect herself and so something like what poseidon did to her could never happen again. This is the reason why in ancient greece the head of medusa was a common symbol for womens care homes (english isn't my first language so sorry for any mistake)
@MythologyFictionExplained7 жыл бұрын
That is an interesting take on the story, one that I've not heard of. It would also make Medusa's head being used to ward off evil make some sense too.
@subice21587 жыл бұрын
From what I hear, the above-mentioned version of the story was popular among women, who saw Athena's actions as kind and caring while the one you mentioned was more told in general. Interesting how you can have vastly differeing takes on the same myth.

J&P Challengers medusa was a monster, one of the Gorgon sisters and daughter of Phorkys and Keto, the children of Gaea (Earth) and Oceanus (Ocean). She had the face of an ugly woman with snakes instead of hair; anyone who looked into her eyes was immediately turned to stone. Her sisters were Sthenno and Euryale, but Medusa was the only mortal of the three. She was originally a golden-haired, fair maiden, who, as a priestess of Athena, was devoted to a life of celibacy; however, after being wooed by Poseidon and falling for him, she forgot her vows and married him. For this offence, she was punished by the goddess in a most terrible manner. Each wavy lock of the beautiful hair that had charmed her husband was changed into a venomous snake; her once gentle, love-inspiring eyes turned into blood-shot, furious orbs, which excited fear and disgust in the mind of the onlooker; whilst her former roseate hue and milk-white skin assumed a loathsome greenish tinge. Seeing herself transformed into such a repulsive creature, Medusa fled her home, never to return. Wandering about, abhorred, dreaded, and shunned by the rest of the world, she turned into a character worthy of her outer appearance. In her despair, she fled to Africa, where, while wandering restlessly from place to place, young snakes dropped from her hair; that is how, according to the ancient Greeks, Africa became a hotbed of venomous reptiles. With the curse of Athena upon her, she turned into stone whomever she gazed upon, till at last, after a life of nameless misery, deliverance came to her in the shape of death, at the hands of Perseus.

To those who think that Percy jackson and Perseus are the same. They are completely different people. Percy is the son of Poseidon where as Perseus was the son of Zeus percy was named after Perseus. Therefore they are different people. As in the book it references Perseus where Anna beth says that only Perseus succeeded in getting her head therefore they are different people.
