I followed pat tillman and his story for a while even wrote a school paper about him. What an absolute legend. Although I don't think it would fully do his legacy justice or entirely sum up what he sacrificed I think NFL's Man of the Year should be called the Pat Tillman award.
@kevthegoat8774
@kevthegoat8774 2 жыл бұрын
@@a.j.ramirez1325 I don't think his family would want that due to the military/NFL ties and how Pat became disillusioned with the military and it's goals of the war, especially the war in Iraq which he claimed to his friends was illegal.

@Wales Eakes I don’t doubt that for a second. I’m glad my grandson forgot his ID while signing up in 2002, he went home and saw a “Newsweek” magazine on the coffee table with an Iraqi soldiers photo, that photo made him realized he didn’t hate that man and had no desire to kill him. We were all fooled by the US government.

I remember reading the SI article about friendly fire when I was about 12 years old. A friend may have even mentioned to me that there was a cover up within the last month too but I'm not really sure bc going into this video I still believed he died bc of enemy fire while performing heroic actions. Propaganda can be very powerful apparently... I can understand the whole "friendly fire" rumors and frustration going over my head reading the SI article bc I was young and probably wouldnt have been able to grasp the situation at that point in my life. But my buddy has served over seas, is still enlisted in the reserves to this day and both of us have an interest in and enjoy learning about American military history too so I find it kinda hard to believe he wouldnt have known about the cover up since he was deployed around this same time. We were playing call of duty when he had mentioned Pat's name though so maybe my brain didnt retain that information since I wasn't giving my undivided attention to our conversation. Nonetheless- this still serves as a good example as to why its important for us to recognize and also challenge our preconceptions and beliefs no matter what the topic is. The last thing I'd like to say is very good video Mike and thanks for sharing this/making me aware about the circumstances surrounding his death. His final actions and moments might not have been what usually comes to mind when thinking about an American hero losing their life while serving overseas for the military. But Pat's selflessness, integrity, loyalty, honesty, dedication, and intelligence are all virtues that come to mind when I think about what it means for somebody to be the embodiment of a true hero. I feel like I ought to learn more about this man so I can draw inspiration from the example he set in my own life. Thanks again for sharing this information and Pat's story with us Mike.
