This honestly just sounds like a brief recap of the documentary, very heavily Melee focused. A lot of the Brawl>Sm4sh>now Ultimate players have already added further details of Brawl being very popular overtaking Melee during that time. There were actually some Melee players that played Brawl for over a year competitively since the payouts were better than Melee. Brawl def. helped a lot in that EVO situation, it wasn't just a Melee thing it was collective Smash effort. There was definite bad blood between the community, Brawl starting at first and then post Evo Melee retaliated hard esp. after the Documentary released.

One genre of e-sports that was (to my knowledge) not featured yet on this channel is Dark Souls e sport. This might sound ridiculous but hear me out. So as many people probably know the souls games have been beaten - though they are harder than your usual games - without taking hits. This community of no hit runners that practice all types of games from Demon Souls to BloodbOrne and of course Dark Souls now have small tournaments on Twitch where they compete. These can be for example who gets hit less (since a no hit run is pretty unlikely) wins the match and proceeds.( if both have the same amount of hits the time is the deciding factor) it is very interesting and something which should be covered on this channel. If you want to look in to this, there is a KZbin channel called McRapt0r who also posted some videos about this and also all the footage since he is also the host of the tournaments.

I love every entry of the Smash franchise but each one for different reasons: 1. Smash 64 - For the foundation of this franchise and the combo tournaments, I enjoy watching them. 2. Melee - For the competitive scene, hundreds of memorable moments and very personal E-sport players. 3. Brawl - For the Subspace Emissary, which filled the characters with more life than ever before in their cutscenes. 4. Smash4 - For the first smash game, I intended to play it competitively from the start. 5. Smash Ultimate - For bringing so many things together and hopefully improves over the year even more. I love this series, I love the community and I love to see what's coming next!

Not gonna lie but I think that this video needed a few more "years of research." But seriously I know it was meant to highlight the disconnect of developer and fan base, but there was so much in here that was just skimmed over. Like you mentioned the imbalance of characters like Meta Knight and Bayo, yet showed really simple clips of there potential and didn't really explain why they were broken. Also there was a "mention" of the disconnect between melee and brawl/smash 4 players, but nothing really about how hostile it really got between the two communities. Take the dead meme at the start of this comment for reference. And you didn't even mention all the hate that smash in general used to, and in some cases still gets, from other fgc communities for not being a true fighting game. All and all, it really did hit on the important parts of the games history, and why there was such a difference of opinion between developer and player, yet nothing I felt was really explored all that much to really show just badly this community had struggled over the course of it lifetime.

I mean, yeah that stuff would be cool but the people who want to know that detail will check out the smash documentary. This is just a 20 minute overview of the game--not a 5 hour documentary.... I think it did a really thorough coverage considering the video's scope, and based on their other videos, I'm sure these guys know the things you mentioned and just didn't have room in the video to include it.
@jswiggle16665 жыл бұрын
they made a video about op smash characters where they kinda went over why they were op. The rest of this comment is 100% accurate though
@flip91185 жыл бұрын
Meh. I don't think this video needed to delve deeply into why MK and Bayo were broken in their debut games. However, as this was more a history of Smash and the Smash community, it really should have mentioned Project M since that was the community saying "hold my beer" and building what they really wanted from Brawl. It was a rebellion against where Nintendo was taking the franchise. Another big omission is the fact that Dragon King was turned down by Nintendo, but Sakurai went ahead and made the demo anyway to prove that his concept was sound. Only after seeing the idea in action, did Nintendo approve it with Nintendo characters in place of original fighters, resulting in Super Smash Bros. But the series never would have happened if Sakurai hadn't decided that he knew better than his bosses at Nintendo and made it happen despite their initial rejection.
@MissAshley425 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this video seems a little unfocused, at least considering that the first few minutes doesn't really set up the narrative the rest of the video hangs its hat on. The "many things to many people" bit in the details isn't represented well.

This all makes sense now. It's very oblivious why melee is so beloved and why Wii, and Wii u are separated. Ultimate DOES seem like the most middle ground. Aaaaaaannnnnnnndddddd with patches and balance updates, the game should be the ULTIMATE smash game. Melee will remain in most people's hearts though.

Good lord, I'm so happy that Ultimate exists and is doing well at tournaments. I love how I can tune in to any random tourney and see players sweeping with Duck Hunt, Piranha Plant, Pikachu, Joker, Zelda, etc etc etc. I quickly and very completely outgrew watching Marths, Jigglypuffs, and Foxes dominate over and over in Melee. Ultimate's roster is so vast and (for the most part) so damn balanced that almost any character is viable, which just leads to more captivating tournaments.

Very happy to see a honest video tribute of the history of Smash Bros and its competitive side, which is not only from a Melee elitist point of view, but which also recognizes that Smash 4 is another important competitive scene with its own merits. And also a video that admits that Nintendo made mistakes in the past, but tries to be forgiven and unite THE big competitive scene of Smash Bros in peace. Thinking about Sakurai maybe finally reaching his main goal with the Smash Bros franchise gives me some tears of joy for him and the futur of the competitive scene. Let's move on but hand in hand now because we're all smashers. :)

Almost a year after Ultimates release, the community is still growing. I'm glad to see melee players compete more and smash 4 veterans still looking strong. As well as bringing in newer and younger players to the competitive scene. The future of smash is bright and if this happens to be the last one we get. I wouldn't be sad. Because I was part of this generation. Thank you sakurai. Thank you smash God's!
