In 1996, WCW began rising in popularity thanks to the nWo faction and storyline. Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash and Scott Hall completely took over wrestling headlines at the time, and Eric Bischoff had found his golden goose.
The nWo would introduce new members as time went by, and one of these new members was Sean Waltman, better known as the 1-2-3 Kid in the WWF. Being a friend of Kevin Nash and Scott Hall, Waltman was put straight into the nWo upon his WCW debut and renamed "Syxx". While only lasting in the company for around a year, Syxx would have some great matches during his WCW tenure against the likes of Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko and Chris Jericho.
This video takes a look at Syxx in WCW and the nWo. Topics covered include:
02:13 - The 1-2-3 Kid leaves the WWF
04:14 - Why Sean Waltman was called "Syxx" in WCW
05:56 - The Syxx debut in WCW
07:31 - The original Wolfpac faction within the nWo
09:23 - Eddie Guerrero vs Syxx at nWo Souled Out
13:26 - Syxx begins a feud with Dean Malenko
17:05 - The nWo dress up as The Four Horsemen
19:45 - Sean Waltman's issues with Eric Bischoff
- Much More!

Syxx was my favorite NWO member. I've been a fan of Sean Waltman since I seen him in The GWF as The Lighting Kid. His kicks and fast wrestling style really appealed to me. Like everyone says if Sean Waltman said you can work, you can work. He's that good. I've also heard he's getting ready for a comeback.

Ppl can think of him whatever they wish. As far as wrestling goes though, Sean Waltman is one of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots it’s not a debate. He was super young holding his own with some of the greats. I’m so happy him and Scott were able to get clean and now are two to the best guys u could ever come across

@@cobrahklutch9779 I agree with you. I was never a huge fan of Sean's but his time in WWF with DX was amazing. He had many great matches and held his on every time. I am also glad that he and Scott Hall got clean and that they are doing much better than they were. I feel extremely lucky that I was a teenager when the Monday Night Wars started back in the mid 90's and got to watch it all the way through until Vince bought WCW and it was all over. It was amazing to be a wrestling fan during those times.

I was coming down here to say the same thing. Makes the most sense it was both things but directly named after 123 Kid, then they said “Oh and also he’s the 6th member!” And could use that as an explanation. Either way, it’s kind of a crappy name, imo. Which is funny because I think 1-2-3 Kid is a great name (that happened by circumstance, as the fans chanted 1-2-3 at Razor after getting quickly and shockingly pinfalled by “The Kid”. I also have this channel to thank for that info lol

I think they were the same character just different and name. I think why they feel so different though is because DX was a much smaller group than the nWo. It’s easier for everyone to shine in a four-man group than it is for 16 guys to shine In a Organization like the NWO. Especially if in that group of guys like Randy Savage, Scott Hall, The Giant, Kevin Nash and Hulk Hogan Who were all main event guys. Sean Waltman always found away to stand out by his ring work though.

Ed-Roc - The smaller guys were in pretty much every circumstance lucky to even be on the card and not being squashed by the big guys. Only a handful were anything decent like Jericho, Rey, Eddie. The rest were your Lenny Lanes of this world. Waltman was not a small guy, he was just not as put together as the majority of the guys back then, but as Syxx and X-Pac he fit in with the anti authority group because his promos were decent and he didn't look like a midget stood next to Hogan, Hall & Nash.

Xpac was my favorite as a kid from day 1 when he joined Dx the day after wrestlemania. I stopped watching regularly in 2000 so I was not familiar with "xpac heat" when I started getting into wrestling history. I can definitely see, as an adult, why waltman could be annoying and easily hated. That 2 year run I watched him religiously was awesome tho. I was a 12 yr old kid and I knew little of kayfabe. Although I knew it wasnt "real" ,it was like I believed it because I wanted to so badly. So that night xpac faced the rock on raw for the wwf title still sticks out to me. I probably marked out more during that match than any other time. I don't know if people always or even mostly felt like this at the time, but it seemed like there was a real chance that xpac could upset the rock that night. Great memories

Yep. Plus in the WWF/E he was known as the test guy. Any new talent that came in or was given a trial match to see if they wanted to sign him, it was always Waltman that was used against the new guy. Because Waltman could get a good match out of nearly anybody, he was that good. So if the match ended up being poor they knew the other guy wasn't good enough to sign. Imagine that though, out of everybody on the roster throughout the entire attitude era, X-Pac was considered by Vince and the others as one of the top handful of guys in ring wise.

Syxx being the nWo are tremendous for a couple reasons. First, his Kliq bros in Hall and Nash were in it. And him being the Cruiserweight division gave the division another top notch cruiserweight to be invested in. Rey, Dean, Jericho, and Eddie had the fans invested in them. Some of the other guys in that division WHILE AWESOME in ring didn't have the fans emotionally invested. So Syxx gave the nWo a great cruiserweight who could put on great matches with Rey, Dean, Eddie, Jericho, etc. Before Syxx, the group had NOTHING but guys 275 pounds and up. And let's face it, the nWo's thing was being a great in ring faction. Like the Horsemen at their best. It was about the mic skills, storylines, and IT factor they bought to the table. So Syxx as the workhorse was refreshing to have in the crew!

I watched WCW from '97 to mid '98 before I started to get more into the WWF, although I continued to watch both until around 2000 when I'd lost interest in WCW. There were a lot of wrestlers I didn't like and X-Pac was one of them. I think as a kid you don't appreciate the work these wrestlers put in or take into account any thing that happens behind the scenes. Wrestling Bios has opened my eyes to just how lucky we were as wrestling fans in the mid 90s. These videos are akin to being hit with a nostalgia sledgehammer. Please keep up the good work. I believe from the things you say and the things you remember that we have had similar wrestling experiences as UK fans. I remember around 97/98 we didn't get the WCW PPVs, so it was always tense tuning into Nitro on Friday night on TCM (remember when we had to wait 5 days to watch Monday Nitro) to see who had the belts after the PPVs. Luckily the internet wasn't what it is now so there were no spoilers!

Thank you so much for making this video is my Syxx favorite member of NWO, and I like this run in his career, the Booker's definitely should have made a Syxx vs Guerrero round two but put the US title on Syxx, I like all his matches. He should have a feud with Ultimo Dragon, a longer feud with Chris Jericho, have a straight forward match with Rey Mysterio without interference.

This really should be the biggest wrestling channel on KZbin. I don't particularly care about Sean Waltman, yet I'm still intrigued by the in depth analysis and absolute ridiculous amounts of knowledge this guy has about wrestling. The fact he seemingly can go from idea to video in 2 weeks (or less) is beyond insane. This man is an encyclopedia of knowledge.

Syxx was a breath of fresh air for Sean Waltman considering he wend from being buried in WWF as the 123 Kid in 1996 against the guy who ironically was responsible for his push in 1993 (Razor Ramon Scott Hall) and end up teaming up with that same guy in WCW later that year. The gimmick also kinda served as a catalyst for the X-Pac gimmick in WWF.

I remember the commentary about his name being Syxx because he was the sixth member. Either they used it as a joke and ran with it, or it was the original meaning, but Syxx was often referred to as Syxx-Pack. As in beer. Especially by Hall. Thus in WWE he went to X-Pac.
@ninowaves4061
@ninowaves4061 2 жыл бұрын
He was referred to as syxx-pac not pack as a reference to Tupac…as Nash said he tried to be like death row records cuz they was running shyt back then in the music biz…also Waltman even made 2pac references in his promos…”picture me rollin”
@hassanjaafar5440
@hassanjaafar5440 2 жыл бұрын
@@ninowaves4061 I'm sure there were doubling meanings to it. If not more inside jokes. I do remember those interviews of them calling him Syxx-Pac on the show (instead of pack), I just didn't put two and two together. They still often referred to him as Six Pack in promos as in beer, and weren't exactly subtle about it.
