Also known as X-Pac and Syxx, Sean Waltman was able to breakout in the wrestling world when he made his WWF debut as the 1-2-3 Kid. Upon making his debut in 1993, it looked like the 123 Kid was destined to become another jobber or enhancement guy in the World Wrestling Federation but Waltman shocked the world when he pinned one of the company's biggest superstars, Razor Ramon. A rivalry with Ramon would result in both Kid and Razor eventually becoming friends both on-screen and off-screen, and this also expanded to friendships with Shawn Michaels and Kevin Nash. Collectively, the group would become known as The Kliq.
The 1-2-3 Kid's friends weren't what kept Waltman on TV though as The Kid was also an extremely proficient wrestler. In 1994, The 1-2-3 Kid vs Bret Hart on Raw would turn out to be one of the very best matches in Raw history. Even after this great performance though, Kid wasn't really moved up the cards but he always had a regular spot in WWF programming. After turning heel and feuding with Razor Ramon though, and when Razor Ramon left the WWF to join World Championship Wrestling, it seemed like there was nothing really left for the 123 Kid to do in the WWF.
This video looks at Sean Waltman's entire run as the 1-2-3 Kid in the WWF. Topics covered include:
00:00 - The Lightning Kid before the WWF
04:37 - The Razor Ramon angle
07:53 - The Kid in the Kliq
09:26 - Bret Hart vs 1-2-3 Kid
12:22 - The 1-2-3 Kid in 1995
14:36 - The Kid turns heel
19:28 - Syxx & X-Pac
- Much More!

That’s pretty cool. Here in Massachusetts they used to come to local malls fairly regularly around the Boston area. Always had long lines to wait in but Igot NWO Kevin Nash’s autograph and when Goldberg came omg the amount of people that showed up we must have waited in that line for hours to get an autograph and snap a picture on a throwaway camera

Bret Hart vs 123 Kid is definitely an underrated match. I think the main reason Kid had a forgettable heel turn was because for years he was built as a plucky underdog, who would in most (but not all) cases appear to be in way over his head, but would do everything he could to overcome the odds. And because of this he just didn't come across as a believable heel at that time and the crybaby match certainly didn't help.

The Dibiase faction angle sucked. A bunch of mid-card guys who were either already heels or turned into heels for the purposes of joining the group, it was really just the writers just being too lazy to come up with anything for those wrestlers.

I remember watching that match live and being shocked when he won it, even though I was familiar with him from Global. I already liked him, so I marked out big time. That run would have worked a lot better if he had picked up more wins. Even if they were flukes, it would have made the gimmick more effective if his win loss record had improved after that win.
@popmonika

The only way a heel turn might have worked imo is if he changed his name and gimmick because he didn't like being called a kid. Actually what wcw did (repackaging as Syxx) was a stroke of genius and probably helped to extend his career.

Im not sure but i wanna say it was both Scott Hall & Sean who wanted to do the whole scenario of him vs razor ramon. & then he beats him fast like that. 1,2,3 & from 123 kid being "born" it also made Razor Ramon a baby face at the same time after losing to him like 2 weeks later.

I got really into wrestling around 1994-1995 when I was 6-7yrs old. Bret Hart was my favorite and obviously they were pushing him so not a surprise that any kid would love Bret. We all wished to be the kid in the front row who got his pink shades before the match. But he obviously put on a hell of a match night in and night out. “Who gave so and so (insert any superstar from the 90s) their best match?” The answer is more often then not BRET the Hitman HART. Excellence of Execution, he was goddamn right about that one

One thing about Scott Hall when he was making a name for himself he didn't mind putting anyone over and was never pissy about the decision. Even in WCW when the nWo were basically always winning or matches always ended in about 6 seconds because everyone just interfered straight away his matches had him losing to a few random people. So I always look back on when he lost the match to the 1-2-3 Kid as him always wanting others to be as successful as him

i still cant get over how much he actually looked like a KID during his many "___ Kid" names (what was he, like 15? xD)...something about the Facial Hair he sprouted as (Syx)X-Pac definitely aged him up, visually...

@Marc Carran right, but my point is that the facial hair definitely helped 'the look' lol...wherever it is on the timeline-- its Around the time he dropped the 'Kid' names...

To me Sean is proof that skill and determination can make you get over despite the limitations. Sean became so good that he was used to test the waters with prospective talent. Chris Jericho credits Sean for helping him make it in the WWE. Fun fact: My brother and me were actually watching the match on T.V. when he upset Razor Ramon. We were actually just joking how cool it would be to see one of these no-name jobbers for a change. Needless to say, we were in for quite the surprise!

Another damn good video! This run for Waltman has some of the best examples of how wrestling styles morphed and bridged between 80's era WWF and Attitude.

Good job, man. I remember watching the kid back in 90s and, yeah, he pulled out some quite athletic and amazing move combined with speed. Such a great westler who brought some fresh air in the panorama, as you say, displaying what new generations can do. Loved your video.

I remember the uproar when The Kid beat Razor Ramone. You NEVER saw a jobber beat a popular guy cleanly. You just never saw it. It was kind of ground breaking in a way. I might even go out on a limb and say that the first Kid wins against Razor might even be the first time ever that a jobber beat one of the popular guys cleanly, and almost definitely was the first time that said jobber actually gained some popularity. When I was watching WWE back then, I was a huge fan of Iron Mike Sharp. He was hilarious. I saw him wrestle at my local high school, and he was my favorite jobber. The man could do a comedy bit really well. I was really hoping after they gave The Kid a chance that they would do the same thing for Sharp. It never happened, sadly.

I remember how I watched all of the early Matches around that time. My friend and I had bin big fans of WWF/WWE and he later became a Wrestler himself. The Match against the Hitman was so awesome and it looked like a movie. Delivered in a fashion and style as if Giants clashed. Man, I would pay to see that Match right now. It gives me all the good feels.
