I had MLP toys in my old toy box. They were the ones with brushable manes and tails. I even had a G4 Pinkie Pie baby doll but I didn’t know that that’s what it was at the time cause I never watched MLP. I was more of a Care Bears and Barbie girl. I did remember reading a MLP book about Pinkie having a nightmare when I was little tho. I got into G4 in like high school I think? I watched the Cutie Mark 2 parter and I was hooked. Then I got into Equestria Girls which I thought was great. But then G4 ended and I really got into it when the G5 movie came out. After that, I binged all of G4 on Netflix near the end of last year. I bought Season 9 on Amazon and I loved it.

I’d love to see a dedicated video about the pre-generation 4 my little pony fandom. Especially the fanart/fan-fiction side of things. The tumblr blog heckyeahponyscans talked about the subject of my little pony fanfiction before g4. According to them, the authors of these fics would create and write about their own original worlds and inhabit them with pony characters based loosely on the pony dolls of generations 1 through 3. As opposed to g4 fanfic writers who base their fics directly on the characters and world of MLP: FIM. I haven’t read any of these pre g4 fics myself, but the suff I’ve heard about the lore of these fics and their worlds sound wild in the best way!

As a kid I watched a ton of pre-FiM MLP content on youtube and have such a fascination with that era of the fandom... In fact, I actually remember watching a lot of the videos you showed here. MLPBubbles for example (who was also known as CinnamonMewMew) was one of my absolute favourite MLP youtubers, though a lot of her old early PMVs are unfortunately lost (one I watched religiously that seems to have vanished was a tribute to Minty from G3, set to 'I Must Not Chase The Boys' by Play. I believe it was uploaded in 2008?). Also, I have very vivid memories of watching that EXACT anti G3.5 video you showed, and of the G3.5 hate in general... what a time capsule. It seems like more and more of that pre-brony fandom MLP content is lost to time each and every year, so any attempts to preserve it are a great thing in my book.

There's one video that I used to watch, a kid playing Pinkie Pie toy where she's preparing for Celestia's birthday. It's nothing special, but I am fond to it because it's one of (if not only) the few MLP play-pretend in my native language. Always love content like this, finding for old relics of the internet. alright, tell me if i sound crazy -- at 7:18, the pony incorrectly identified as baby firefly from g1 is ACTUALLY a mcdonald's toy with a molded tail (this is an edit, see my reply) also based on different frames of the video i believe that the pony identified as gigglebean cannot be a g3 pony based on the shape of the body and would consider it either a sweetheart sister pony or perhaps a g2 pony?

Have you tried to find one from other countries? Like here in Brazil until G4 it was known as MEU QUERIDO PÔNEI, including commercials from the toy company that used to make them here, the Estrela made ones are very fun because they differ from the OG HASBRO ones, they are not 100% in model. IDK, just a topic that I think you would like to find, Ponies from other countries that made their own before Hasbro started making them here.

I knew about PMVs (personal music videos) before I knew about PMVs (pony music videos). Remember being slightly frustrated that a bunch of pony videos would pop up while i was looking for artists who did a pseudo comic/animatic or even full on animation to go along with certain songs. I did like the pony ones though, dont get me wrong. Just really annoying to be wondering if any artists had done anything personal to songs i liked and thought about drawing-stuff-too. I have used this before KZbin feature thing quite a few times in my own archival and research work particularly in tracking down and finding old Gmod content which has been an absolute trip to do, Even discovered what probably is the earliest proper Gmod series The adventures of Garry although far from being pretty exactly was an absolutely fascinating time capsule and fun romp through a bygone era of my favorite game
