In regards to the Angel Island thing and the recent Frontiers short, the argument that Angel Island never went back to floating goes under the assumption that since the Forces comic, where we also see Angel Island floating again, is a retcon. I would say those could be even further evidence that it went back up at the end of SA1. But it's not like retconning something major like that is unbelievable...

I remember reading somewhere that Silver's inclusion in Sonic Rivals might have actually been a late-development thing. Matter of fact, according to one of the developers of the Rivals duology, Jet from the then-recent Sonic Riders was supposedly slated to be a playable in Rivals. On account of Sonic 06 being on its last portion of development, it's possible that Jet was replaced with Silver to coincide with the release of 06 (especially since Rivals was released barely a week afterwards).
@numbug1234

The worst part about Eggman Nega is the fact that while Blaze's retcon was undone (and likely an accidental development due to the rushed nature of the game, given that in-game doesn't explicitly say she's FROM the future and promotional material (including the leaked script) still keep the same backstory), Dr. Eggman Nega's retcon was kept in. So even when both characters of Sonic Rush get their origins changed, only one of them actually gets fixed to how it is meant to be while the other one's origin is double downed. And this also fucks up the canon a lot more, since now Sonic Rush HAS to be canon because of Blaze, but the Eggman Nega of that game can't be canon because he's entirely different than in Rivals, and yet Rivals also has to be canon since it's Silver's reintroduction and he continues to exist after this game. Oh, and don't forget how, because Rivals and Rivals 2 never released in Japan, the JP fandom's first introduction to post-timeline-boot Silver is Sonic Colours DS. Where Sonic already knows Silver. Gee, fantastic. I love this franchise most of the time, but this sure as hell isn't one of those times.

As someone who enjoys the mostly consistent Japanese cast more, I think Jason Griffith is the most emblematic English-language Sonic VA. Besides having nostalgia for the games he was casted for, I think his portrayal fits Sonic the most. I also find that he strikes a good balance between confidence and kindness.

I like to believe, the Sonic cast canonically speaks English. Due to Sonic’s western inspirations, Sonic 1 first came out in America, English is used a lot in the Japanese versions of these games, English music is never given an official Japanese translation, in song remix form, normally, and Sonic just being more popular in America then Japan.

I'm indifferent about Silver but the IDW comics at least how Ian writes him made me like him a little bit. It was always weird to me that Sega keeps bringing him back more than Zavoc and they don't even try to explain the bullshit that comes with him. Like is Silver like a time cop or something? Why is he the only person time traveling to fix shit? How is he able to come to different time periods does he have a time machine or a weird magical stone to do this shit? And why does he have these weird Psychic powers?? Is this some form of chaos energy like it's such an outlandish ability even for Sonic characters to just be born to do some shit like that? And does he have some connection to Sonic, Shadow or Amy in some way? It seems kinda odd that Sonic Team would deliberately make him a hedgehog on not even hint to it like with Shadow being a parallel to Sonic in many ways. I would like Silver to get another chance at the spotlight in a mainline game for Sega to expound or answer some of this shit going on with him.

@theking8347
@theking8347 Ай бұрын
Iizuka did later clarify that Eggman Nega IS from the future, and Blaze IS from another dimension. Since the Rivals games never released in Japan, Japan's first introduction to the descendant backstory was in the story mode of the 3DS version of Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, where Tails refers to Eggman Nega as Eggman's descendant who traveled back in time to cause trouble, but was defeated by Sonic and Blaze. Tokyo 2020 also uses this backstory both in Eggman Nega's character profile. Sonic, Eggman, Mario, Bowser get trapped inside of a video game console created by Eggman, and Luigi and Tails team up with Bowser Jr. and Eggman Nega to get them out. Nega says he's embarrassed to be a member of Eggman's family, and even Eggman himself calls Nega his descendant. So while Nega WAS orignally intended to be from Blaze's dimension, the current story is that he's from the future and simply traveled back in time and to her dimension. Note that in Rush Adventure, released after Rivals, Nega doesn't refer to her dimension as "his world" or "their world" when talking to Blaze anymore, he just says "this world".

the way I saw the whole "is nega from the soul dimention or the future" thing when I didn't really care about the official sonic canon by following what was said in interviews, was that the soul dimension and the future 'dimension' are the same, with the the soul/future dimension being an alternative dimension that is somewhat parrallel to sonic's world while also being influenced sonic's world as if it were its past(basically an extension of how 06 treated the future as a single place) then this explained why boaze was in he future in 06 and why nega has contradicting origins personnally I still really like this interpretation even if I now know it's not the 'intended' one, because even after all this time we barely know anything of the future and the soul dimention(right now all we know about the future is that silver exists), so instead of having two fully empty world we'd instead have only one almost empty dimension

Not to defend the story per se, but I think Silver's lack of a proper introduction in Rivals 1 is largely due to marketing. Rivals was released, like, less than a week after Sonic '06, and so Silver was really only included as cross-promotion. Those who played Rivals first might be compelled to give '06 a try just to learn more about this new character, and those that played '06 first would already know him. And since both games were being developed at the same time, it can also be assumed that -- like usual -- the two teams probably didn't have a whole lot of communication going on.

My head cannon is that, due to Eggman Nega hating how much Eggman ruined the family tree’s reputation from his failures, he tries everything in his power to be more successful then Eggman in anything he does, no matter if it destroys the world or not. His nick name “Eggman Nega” is to show how he is the negative Eggman, where Eggman is always a failure, Nega is always a succeeder, it’s why he is such a salty loser. And he tries to take over the Sol Dimension since it’s a great way to take over in multiple dimensions. He pretends he’s from the Sol Dimension in Rush, and maybe Rush Adventure, to trick Eggman so he could make both of them successful and save the family tree. I know, but my pull, but it’s the best I can come up with.

Weirdly fits in a way since he's the much more bratty pathetic eggman. Kinda fits that he'd go out unceremoniously in a way, he keeps trying to end everything bombastically when he doesnt get his way yet he doesnt even get his own way in how he goes out. Even like writers on the comics like Ian Flynn just work under the assumption he was killed off so he probably is just straight up dead. If they wanted to make Silver one of Eggman Nega's arch enemies, much like Blaze, then why not just have Silver be part of the Sol Dimension from the get-go? And considering they're often seen together in current pieces of media, it would potentially save a lot of continuity headaches & would make for decent spinoffs/sequels of the Sonic Rush games, that wouldn't have to involve Sonic & co for most of them if may be. If SEGA wanted to reboot Silver's character without time shenanigans. Just a thought.

I really appreciate you always pointing out -- even with the classic games -- how fucked the continuity of Sonic games are. It baffles me the way the modern fanbase holds the Dark Age games as some sort of paragon of long-form storytelling and act like the series' more lax attitude towards continuity was something that started with Pontac and Graff. No, it's *always* been like that. Sonic games have *always* bent the rules of the canon and retconned past events. They just told stories they wanted to tell and didn't sweat the overarching details. The "Sonic timeline" has never really been a thing beyond the absolute broadest sense of the term. The games basically just take place in the order they were released, and if there are contradictions and retcons, it's simply because Sonic Team decided those didn't matter.

the wrose part of silver is that we had time travel and space alteration since sonic CD. you could do pretty much 3/4 of every single time travel thrope. from separated from the timeline, to 'your acting destabilized time, your time will always be the next crysis sonic will be living trought" even just a "I'm rubberbanding throught time, I can't just permanetly be in either so I just travel" which would work even with keeping silver in a passive position instead of this "hi, I'm here now, or rather now here". they wanted us to like silver so much in the late '00, but then they just stopped caring altogether

Whenever anything in Sonic the Hedgehog stops making sense, I usually blame time travel which usually means Silver screwed up something in the past that changed the present (possibly retconning and/or rebooting the series) and caused a new problem in the future which also changes Silver’s origin and sends him back to the past again and the cycle repeats indefinitely maintaining the constants but changing the variables each time.

You need to get over the weird hatred of Silver. Silver is fine. His relation to Blaze and Eggman Nega is also fine. Eggman Nega's origin has also been cemented as being from the future as stated by his official profile on Sonic Channel. When that profile was first uploaded, they also had a comic featuring Eggman Nega where they directly reference that, but the comic also had Blaze in it fighting him. Eggman Nega's profile states the following: "An evil genius scientist who plans to destroy the world, he is a distant descendant of Dr. Eggman and comes from a world in the future. His scientific power is not at all inferior to Dr. Eggman’s. He believes that he, a descendant of Dr. Eggman, has suffered a great deal from Dr. Eggman’s negative achievements, and in fact, he holds a grudge against Dr. Eggman. He speaks in a more polite tone than necessary, but it’s hard to tell what he is really thinking. He is very cunning and cold-hearted." Real name Unknown Species Human Gender Male Height 185cm Weight 128kg Dislikes Dr. Eggman The whole point of Eggman Nega appears to be that he is, indeed, a negative inversion of Doctor Eggman. But, not as an alternate dimension counterpart because... Well, you have to acknowledge that that makes absolutely no sense. Blaze is the corresponding "Sonic Nega", but she is a pyrokinetic purple princess, not a male S-named hedgehog. Eggman Nega looks identical to Eggman and is named "Eggman ____". He is too directly connected to Eggman the same way Metal, Shadow and Silver are to Sonic. This is precisely why his origin being tied to Silver works best overall. It perfectly explains his appearance and his name. And, the intention seems to be that he is the "negative inversion of Eggman" precisely because of his ancestral ties to the Doctor. He hates Eggman with a passion because he blames Eggman for all of their combined failures throughout history. This motivates him to be "the NEGATIVE Eggman" to show that he is NOTHING like his ancestor... Only to end up being more-or-less the same in spite of that effort. The intention also seems to be that Eggman Nega travels across time and space, and for whatever reason, has a particular fascination with the Sol Emeralds and Blaze's World. Look, I completely understand your perspective when it comes to "honoring the original intention of the character's creation". I particularly obsess over that. But, for one, there's a lot that we just don't know how about how all the Silver, Blaze & Nega stuff was really conceptualized throughout the 2005 ~ 2007 period with Rush, Rivals and '06. But one other thing I have come to realize is that sometimes the original idea isn't always the best. What I really mean is, the intention should of course always be valued above all else but the execution of the idea might be in dire need of further refinement. And, I fully believe that Nega's current origin works better than what Sonic Rush was originally presenting, without negatively impacting or destroying Rush's own story. Eggman Nega is still Blaze's corresponding Eggman to her Sonic, but now he is also Silver's at the same time, and you know what? There's nothing wrong with that. Let Silver & Blaze have their connection. Your idea of rewriting Rivals 2 by just replacing Silver with Blaze? Terrible. Bad idea. Do not do that. The Rivals series is Silver's and the Rush series is Blaze's. Let Silver have his game. I do believe that Cream should definitely have been involved with the Chao disappearances because Chao are her thing, but I also believe that Cream should not be tied to Blaze as her "Tails." You already made it clear that you value the original intent above all else, right? The original intention with Cream's character conception is for the purpose of being a member of Team Rose. Cream is the "Tails" to Amy's "Sonic". That's what Cream is for. She was not made for Blaze. But MARINE certainly was. Marine the Raccoon with her water/sea theme and her own technological affinity for tinkering with ships while being a young child with lots of potential but isn't quite "there yet" is the "Tails Nega" to Blaze's "Sonic Nega" and "Eggman Nega". The story of Rush Adventure centers on Marine and gives her an arc that's similar in nature to Tails in Sonic 2, but it's completely different with Marine's direct opposite personality to Tails. Tails had low confidence in himself and didn't recognize his own potential, but Marine constantly puts on a mask of bravado claiming to be something she's clearly not ready for just yet. They're in the same "role" but with polar opposite personalities. Despite what everyone thinks, Tails is not mature for his age, but he only seems to be because he has the basis of being shy and timid before Sonic inspired him to grow out of that. Marine isn't shy and timid, she's energetic and loud much like Sonic is but without the years of experience and growth to back it up. Blaze and Marine are like a swap of Sonic & Tails. Blaze's origin is kinda like Tails with the history of being teased and how it made her socially withdrawn and failing to see her true strength, while Marine is absolutely obsessed with adventure and seizes the first chance she gets to leave her island much like Sonic leaving Christmas Island to travel the world on the Tornado. Sonic Rush paired Blaze with Cream because they were forcing a Sonic & Tails dynamic like a last minute decision when it's clearly not what Cream was created for, and it also had the consequence of flanderizing Amy into comic relief yet again to make Cream shine as the "pure innocent sweetheart" instead. Cream was designed for Amy, yet the writers have consistently failed to portray them properly together without ruining Amy's character. Except for Heroes, that was the one time Amy and Cream's relationship was actually done right and they were both kept 100% in character. Anyways, back to Silver... It's clear that some things may not have been executed as well as it could have, but it doesn't make Silver a bad character and he certainly didn't ruin Blaze or anything like that. Overall, it's pretty well established now that Sonic '06 is an important game for both Silver & Blaze together, it's story affects Blaze's character to this day. But it doesn't lessen Rush's importance to her story either. I've brought this up before, but the writer for '06 did state that the ending of Silver's story was indeed written with the intention of being connected to Sonic Rush. And that aside, it can't be ignored that the lore of '06 is too thematically connected to Blaze and the Sol Emeralds. I mean, "Soleanna", "Solaris", these flames having power over time and space... It's the same pool of ideas, and that just can't be brushed aside and ignored. You can't just act like there wasn't some intention behind it. '06 and Rush were being developed around the same time, after all. What I want to see is a Silver & Blaze game that ties all these stories and concepts together by having Eggman Nega attempt to use the Sol Emeralds and the Ifrit and the Jeweled Scepter to recreate Solaris, as in Mephiles & Iblis, back into the timeline as a way to just obliterate everything like he tends to out of madness and insanity. Doctor Eggman wants to conquer, Eggman Nega wants to destroy. That's the distinction. And so, Silver & Blaze (led by Captain Marine, of course) have to team up to stop Eggman Nega and save not only both their worlds, but all of space and time. And along the way, Silver & Blaze slowly regain their lost history and connection from the '06 timeline and we get some actual explanation and elaboration behind all of this, and some proper resolution is given. That's the game I want to see.

You make a good point. The original intent may not always be the best one. So changes and retcons could improve things. That's why I think Cream pairing with Blaze is fine. It's a good use of her character that fits. In fact, I say forget Big. He shouldn't even be going on adventures. The new Team Rose should be Blaze, Cream and Amy. Makes more sense for Amy to be a power character than speed. That combines things in a way that works well. My issue with Nega is that his Rivals iteration directly contradicts his Rush iteration. In Rush, it's all but explicitly stated that he's from the Sol Dimension. And he does not hate Eggman. They work together in both games. So his Rivals rewrite makes his original iteration impossible to be the same person. Changes to character intent I can accept. They did it with Shadow just fine. But you have to do it in a way that actually fits with what was already there. And they did not do that. They just erased his old version and replaced it. And because Rush Adventure was between the Rivals games, we flip flop back and forth between two totally different versions of the character. Which is awful. And I still stand by Silver sucking. I've yet to see a single good story about him. His character now is dumb and contrived, and he barely has any personality.

@@Pariah6950 I could see an argument for Silver being too bland personality wise in 06 and some subsequent games, but I will actually vouch for him in 06 and say he had just enough to make him not totally shitty. His naivete, his social awkwardness around Amy, giving the Chaos Emerald to young Elise in the past, being teased a bit by Blaze, he has enough for me to like him. 06's story is another thing about it that was clearly unfinished, but I respect what it was going for and I would've been interested to see what it could've looked like if it had made it past the first draft. But nowadays? His personality is pretty well-defined and likeable, I'd say. He is essentially portrayed an adorkable cinnamon roll who just wants to be friend with everyone and but who is still somewhat awkward around others. Team Sonic Racing is probably the best game example, but the IDW comics really nail him down and have my favorite incarnation of him. I understand your dislike for Silver and I can't really disagree with what you say about him. It's not like ur alone in your contempt for him either, but he is a fan-favorite for a reason. There was an earnesty to 06's narrative that will always put it ahead of any Meta Era story for me, and I think Silver is part of that.

@@Pariah6950 When it comes to Nega working with Eggman in Rush, I just think that can be said to be him making an attempt to work with him in hopes that Nega's involvement will avert the pattern of Eggman failing, but then when they both failed, Nega blames it all on Eggman and dives completely into hatred. So it could've started out as a quiet resentment before actually meeting the Eggman turned it into full on animosity. Narratively, I think that works. I don't like whenever anyone tries to say Amy should be "Power". It's clear that after SA1, the intention became that Amy is fast, and her hammer is not particularly used for the sake of overwhelming might anyway. Amy's hammer is a squeaky toy, not a real weapon. It's effectiveness comes from Amy's "magic" and "power of love". When it comes to Sonic the Fighters and Sonic Adventure, it's clear that Amy is meant to be seen as "not as strong" and the hammer doesn't really change that. She's not swinging her hammer with the force of Knuckles or anything like that. With SA2's 2 Player Mode, Sonic Advance 2 and Sonic Heroes, Amy's portrayal changed to being presented as on or approaching Sonic's level. Now, she keeps up with him like Tails does, and as such SA2 and Heroes present her as a Sonic analogue. She's included in the Action Race with Sonic, Shadow and Metal Sonic, she's got her own Tails-analogue in the form of Cream, and she's given the Homing Attack and Spin Attack and Tornado abilities with Supersonic Speed but she still lacks the actual "Spin Dash" and doesn't Triangle Jump either, so her abilities are still an accurate depiction of her character, she's just gotten stronger. Overall, my point is that once they made Amy "stronger", they chose to emphasize Speed and Sonic-adjacent skills rather than emphasizing Power, and I think that suits her best overall. Amy is like "Girl Sonic" and she's always described as being full of energy, so being fast and acrobatic is what executes that ability the best and also showcases the concept that she chases after Sonic. You can't chase the fastest thing alive if you aren't fast yourself, afterall. (Sonic Heroes' typing system is also a terrible concept anyway, it's just forcing every three characters to be Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles as a trio is also a very faulty concept because it goes against Knuckles' character, and it's shoving Amy out of the picture to force him in to both their detriment. The REAL trio is Sonic, Amy and Tails, because those two are the ones who actually want to follow and chase Sonic around, with the speed to do so. Knuckles should be on his own dealing with the lore-heavy stuff. Frontiers seems to be doing this exact setup and I love that!) And... I don't know, pairing Cream with Blaze just doesn't feel right in the grand scheme of things. After Sonic Heroes, Amy and Cream's dynamic was never the same. Sonic X, Sonic Battle and even Sonic Rush all changed the way Amy was written to compensate for Cream when Heroes never did that, and that's why so many people were led to believe that Amy is some crazy psycho stalker with violent temper tantrums and that Sonic must hate her, when that was never supposed to be the case. Sonic Rush putting Blaze and Cream feels too much like a rushed job of wanting Blaze to have her own Tails for all the duality stuff to line up, but failing to actually make a suitable character like Marine at the time so they just picked the closest analogue they had to fill the space temporarily. And as a result of how Blaze's character is, they used Cream to pretty much be a very extroverted and bubbly genki girl to contrast Blaze's stoic reclusiveness, much like how Marine contrasts Blaze, when that's not how Cream herself actually is. Cream is the contrast TO the extroverted and bubbly genki girl, because that's Amy. So Sonic Rush's story feels too much like another example of butchering Amy's character by shoving all her positive traits onto Cream and reducing Amy to comic relief. I mean, Sonic '06 does Amy right and she does the same kind of thing towards both Silver and Elise, they're both a bit overwhelmed yet deeply impacted by how Amy follows her heart and how open she is with all that energy and stuff. In fact, that reminds me. A better way to rewrite Sonic Rivals 2 is simply to replace Espio with Amy. Amy is the only character in Rivals 1 to not return in the sequel, and that's a shame. Seeing Amy interact with Silver again could've been great. As for Silver himself... He's "Light Sonic" to Shadow's "Dark Sonic". And much like Shadow, he needs a proper well-written story to truly flesh out this concept. The Rivals series just retreading the same ground that Silver's story in '06 already resolved is an issue, but it's honestly no different to how other characters have been treated. Not just the whole "What about Angel Island?" for Knuckles. I mean stuff like Tails continuing to just be Sonic's sidekick when SA1 set him up to move past that and become an independent hero on Sonic's level. Like, the scenario you presented in this video for Tails felt too much like retreading that ground especially with the Racing Sonic concept. That already happened in SA1, it's already well established that Tails' flight completely breaks the game and allows him to beat Sonic pretty effortlessly, and he's strong enough to take down Eggman all on his own. Rivals for Silver is like translating him into a classic-style scenario, so he's reduced back to the basic concept and motivation that he's a time traveler who wants to pull a Sonic CD by changing the Bad Future into a Good Future. Considering that the entire timeline of '06 was rewritten, it makes perfect sense for Silver to also be reset here. And another factor when it comes to Silver and why he's in "Sonic RIVALS" is that, much like Blaze, he is another Sonic. Much more explicitly, in fact, given his naming and species and Chaos Control and Super form and all that. Maybe it wasn't executed well, but the intention is that he is a Sonic Rival like Shadow is. But also, to be honest, he never interacted with Sonic in '06 any more than Blaze did in Rush. Blaze, in execution, isn't any more of a rival to Sonic than Silver is. It's not like SA2 or Sonic 3K where the whole game is continuously building up Sonic vs this new guy until the final fight... That doesn't happen with Silver and Blaze against Sonic. They're just dropped into Sonic's World and told of his existence, but spend most of the story far away from him and only ever interacting with him when the fight happens and when the story is reaching it's conclusion. Silver's character is simple. He's the last light in a dark world. He's the "Sonic" of the future, but lacks Sonic's life experiences so he's naive and insecure. Yet he's relentlessly optimistic in spite of how bleak his situation is, and continues to fight for the dream of a world where the sky is blue and everyone's got a smile on their face. Can you really hate someone like that? When all hope is lost, Silver continues to press on and finds a way. He was born in a blazing inferno ruined by a demonic entity, yet Silver is as radiant as an angel sent from heaven. Silver was just dealt an unfortunate hand with '06 being in the state it was upon release, and the Rivals games were probably similarly rushed as well. But from my perspective, his '06 story and characterization is pretty well done for the most part. So I think Silver doesn't deserve all the hate he gets. All he needs is a much better and well-presented story. Silver is a fine addition to the franchise.

@@thesoniczone11 Wow, that's a lot. When it comes to Amy, she is often depicted as a power character. IDW makes her able to fight as well as anyone else with the hammer, she uses it to break through steel walls in X, even the outro of Origins has her and Knux smashing a wall together. She could be either, but considering the hammer is her distinctive trait, I think it makes more sense for her to be power. That said, I don't like making Amy more capable in any way. Her original intention was for her to be "some girl". A normal person doesn't just become as fast as Sonic or strong as Knuckles over time. And it betrays what she was even made to do. I've talked about this before. Ideally. I want Amy to go back to being weak, and using her strength of character and positivity to help people. Which she does in Rush. She might be joke Amy there. But they did get that part right. I think Blaze and Cream is more than fine. Cream is pretty in character in Rush to me. And Marine isn't really Blaze's Tails. Her connection is more with Sonic and Tails. Those two really shouldn't be hanging out a lot after Rush Adventure, if you ask me. As for Silver, his stories in 06 and Rivals being bad is why he is a bad character. A character is just a tool for storytelling. I judge the quality of a character on how well they are used to tell a story. And Silver has only every been used poorly. I don't care about his personality or what he's supposed to be. What he is is a character that fails at conveying what his story is about, and then becomes a contrived "Sonic friend" with no purpose. That's a bad character. That's why Marine is a good character. She is effectively used to convey a theme of learning to acknowledge your own weaknesses. Even the Chaotix are better, as they're just meant to be comic relief. And they do that.

I'm surprised you didn't bring up Chaos into this story. He could appear at the end being extremely pissed that Nega is feeding Chaos to Ifrit, considering he's the guardian of them. He could also use the seven emeralds to become perfect Chaos, but use the possitive energy instead of negative, which could give him a different appearance. Chaos and Ifrit could fight like a Godzilla battle while the other characters could be supporting roles in the fight. This could be a way of redeeming Chaos's actions of the past, and potentially give him a new title instead of only being known as a God of Distruction.

As much as i hate the entire Eggman Nega debackle, i have to go on Rivals' side considering that the Rivals games explain Nega's origins in the most detail. He's a descendant of Dr. Eggman from 200 years in the future. Having adopted the Eggman name from his great great great grandfather, in a cruel twist of irony he became just as pathetic if not more than the original Eggman. Having lost all credibility and threat, essentially ruining the Eggman name, he jumped to the Sol Dimension, which he possibly made his home for a period of time, being his own brand of nuisance to it's inhabitants. After his defeat at the hands of Sonic and Blaze after meeting his grandfather, it's most likely that despite the release order, Rush Adventure comes after it, followed by the Rivals games afterwards. After the defeat in Rush Adventure, Nega may have been disappointed by his great grandfather and grown a hatred towards him, blaming Eggman for his shortcomings in true Eggman fashion, beginning the events of the Rivals games.,

even in stories like that which seem simple , you still manage to find a lot of depth in them , wonder how it is for other sonic games any way like from 2010s how ever , there is some thing i wanted to tell you rearding amy which is un related to this video but might explain why her characterization was not that good in 2000s , is that i once heard you say some thing in your sonic battle video about her theme being similar to that of 2000s anime girls which made me though about that for a bit , so i did research for a while about that and i found out about some thing that was popular when it comes to anime in 2000s among girls in japan regarding how female characters with love interest are portrayed , and that is Type B (alias Type Dere or sweet): These Tsundere have deredere as their default mood. They are sweet, kind and generous, but just happen to have a hidden violent side as well. In this case, temper is almost always triggered by someone or something else, usually a Love Interest. Either they have Belligerent Sexual Tension, or are an idiot, or are an Accidental Pervert, or just has no idea how to handle feelings of love and attraction. May also overlap with Violently Protective Girlfriend if her Love Interest is threatened or in danger. This is the "cat" in "bearcat". Type B should not be confused with a Yandere. If a Type B Tsundere were really convinced that their Love Interest didn't want them, they would revert back to the deredere side and probably enter an I Want My Beloved to Be Happy phase it really made me wonder if that is what sonic team thought regarding portraying amy

I understand where you're going with the reinterpretation of Tails, it's very good, except for the point that you make the protagonist lose twice in a row at the beginning. Unfortunately games are not just stories, they are also games, so you have to consider that the player needs some minimal feeling of completing something to stay interested in the game. I have two cases, The Great Ace Attorney, in which your graphic novel character wins trials and solves mysteries (that is, the core of the game is achieved, reaching the truth). But you are nothing more than a foreign student, so You don't have much experience or power, and you see how you can't get people convicted or you just freed someone dangerous. Another case closer to platforming is MegaManX, with x losing against Vile, but Zero rescuing you and showing that that is the model to follow. Then in the final levels, once Zero is defeated by Vile, unfortunately you cannot beat him despite all your power, so Zero sacrifices himself and destroys Vile's armor, allowing you to take out your anger on the unarmed Vile and Zero before dying he gave you his Buster

My ideal situation would’ve been Nega being a descendant from the start with a different character taking Nega’s roles in Rush; perhaps a rivaling kingdom that uses knights rather than Eggman’s robots to make the Sol Dimension even more unique. As for Silver, it would’ve been cool if 06 had maybe used the timeline changing resulting in Silver’s death as a plot point, make Silver take the sacrifice rather than Blaze.

I respectfully disagree abt Eggman Nega's retcon. He never really made sense to me as an Alt Eggman from Blaze's world considering the Sol Dimension and Nega reference the Chaos dimension characters in completely different ways. Everything else in Sol is similar, but also very different. Nega is the only one that is just a straight up copy of his counterpart. I'm glad they fixed that with the retcon. I also think it's totally plausible he pretended to be alt Eggman just like he pretends to be the real Eggman here. As for the name, I would also say it makes more sense. You yourself said the name (and the design) made little sense in Rush, but here it can be taken to have a similar meaning to Reverse Flash. Nega hates Eggman, so he calls himself Negative Eggman to show that he is different from his ancestor. He is opposite and wont ruin his family name like Ivo did.

How to forget when Eggman Nega got the camera obscura and fatal framed all over the place PD: Oh my god. This was written by Izuka. That explains a lot

As much as I think the Rivals games are underrated, especially Rivals 2...yeah, it wasn't because of the stories lol. I mean I just kind of ignore the stories in games like this, but they still could've done better with them. So an idea that I just thought of is a game where it stars Silver and Blaze going through and trying to fix all the dimensions that Sonic Team has created with their uncaring nature toward continuity, but disguise it as a villain trying to do evil things with the dimensions. Really do something interesting with the time stuff with Silver and the dimensional stuff with Blaze. What Sonic Team would most likely end up doing with an idea like that is make a new character or two instead of Silver and Blaze and their whole purpose is to watch the dimensions and Sonic would befriend them, but in games afterwards, they'd re-appear for no good story reasons lol.

... I've concluded that Takashi Iizuka is a bad video game director and an even worse video game writer, and everything he does takes the piss on everything that came before it. And yes, that includes Shadow the Hedgehog the game.

Fucking silver is an easy fix. Just say due to 06 being erased and traveling back in time too much he has become unaffected by time and can no longer return to the future, you know like what Archie did. Edit: also izika said 06 and rush balze are the same. So that complicates things even further

After hearing that little spitballing at the end, I thought that after you run out of official material for this series, you could make a video trying to conceptualize a Sonic game taking the criticism you made in this retrospectives into account. Not a 4 hour in depth video where you build the perfect gameplay and narrative for the greatest Sonic masterpiece of all time, but just a core idea were all the points you've been making across the series culminate into something. That would be an amazing watch, but it would still take a gargantuan amount of work for sure. We're pretty far from that point right now anyway, just wanted to share my idea, although you might be planning something similar already.

Of course I've thought about such things. But if possible, I'd rather just make that game.

@@Pariah6950 Hey, that's even better to hear! Save your ideas for that future project then, I'm sure it will turn out great if it's coming from you, however long it may take. The tonal shift and missed potential in the post Unleashed games are probably gonna give us a generous amount of those rewrites anyway :r

At this point, I just assume every game is its own continuity except direct squeals. (i.e. Sonic Advance & Sonic Advance 2) Any references to previous games or stories is just where the two timelines happen to have similar events.

@@miadatenshi9903My guess is the numerous problems with the Sonic continuity. The individual games have good stories (sometimes), but trying to string them all together is a nightmare.

It's actually very straightforward- Eggman Nega was made to be an antagonist for Blaze 06 retconned Blaze into being a character from the future Therefore Eggman Nega is a character that is from the future, since that's where Blaze is from So he needs the same mental gymnastics as Blaze does to sort out that situation

The ONLY reason I even picked up a Sonic Rivals game (the second one) was because the cover for Sonic Rivals 2 looked so badass, and the idea of Shadow and Metal teaming up seemed so fucking cool, I just had to play it even if I never played the first. I remember mini-me and my younger brother seeing that pairing and going "Oh shit, everyone else is screwed!" and feeling so hyped. Safe to say, I ended up a little disappointed.
