When it comes to moments in wrestling that are remembered for all the wrong reasons, the debut of WCW's Yeti instantly comes to mind.
World Championship Wrestling brought Halloween Havoc 1995 to audiences via pay per view, and the main event would feature Hulk Hogan defending his WCW championship against The Giant. The Giant had aligned himself with The Dungeon of Doom stable in WCW, and to ensure The Giant had an upperhand against Hogan, an insurance policy was introduced to help the "Son of Andre". This insurance policy was the Yeti, a new character in WCW who broke out from a block of ice. The Yeti, however, was quite odd. Not only did the Yeti look like a mummy, but he was also referred to as the "Yettay" by Tony Schiavone on commentary. Along with this, the Yeti's bearhug on Hulk Hogan has became infamous in it's own right.
This video takes a look at "The Yet-tay" in WCW. Topics covered include:
00:00 - Introducing The Dungeon of Doom and The Giant
03:47 - Hulk Hogan turns to the Darkside
07:35 - The original plans for "The Yeti" character
09:04 - Halloween Havoc 1995
14:00 - The Yeti character gets scrapped
- Much More!

If you think about it though, the dungeon of doom really did kill Hulkamania. They brought forth a dark side never seen in him before, foreshadowing what would become Hollywood Hogan. Kayfabe speaking, the DOD implanted the illness that would eventually end Hulkamania for some time.

The thing with the Dungeon of Doom was, Kevin Sullivan has said repeatedly over the years since that he created the faction in order to appease Hogan, and make him comfortable, as Hogan was still used to the comic book, goofy, cartoon style characters of the WWF when he was working for Vince. I don't think Sullivan even liked the faction much.

The Giant being The Son of Andre was actually a super cool angle. Bischoff should have signed him to a mega deal after he proved himself as a serious talent and just ran with it. Taken from a hidden mic in the locker room before Havoc: "The Giant is booked to go over." "That doesn't work for me, Brother." "Ok, how about we wrap a guy in toilet paper and have him do a run in DQ?" "Ok, that'll work, Brother. I'm thinking a double bear hug spot..."

The argument could be made that the Dungeon did succeed in ending Hulkamania, it wasn’t long after this he turned Hollywood.

Kevin Sullivan said he knew Hogan was getting booed and wanted to turn him at some point. The "Dark Hogan Saga" was kind of a trial run before a fully fledged heel run. Interestingly, Hall and Nash's "third man" was actually up in the air at first. They didn't know who it was going to turn out to be, but Sullivan and Bischoff realized Hogan was perfect for the role. I was 16 at the time the nWo formed and hadn't watched wrestling for years but it was actually a pretty big news story that Hogan went heel so I heard about it.
