This is the story of Proserpine, a series of paintings by Dante Gabriel Rossetti. He was one of the key figures from the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood that became so incredibly influential to later artists.
During his career, Rossetti had a series of favourite models. often they became much more than that. This is the story of not just one of his models that inspired a wonderful series of paintings but who really became his last muse

I absolutly love this Rossetti´s painting. The dark one, I prefer and I undestand why Rossettí felt inspired. Jane Morris was a stunning beauty. I found super interesting the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood because of the style and subjects. Thank you, Carel! I learn something each time with your videos

Your channel is a gem . I am just so disappointed that real gems live a hard life struggling for likes and followers but meaningless channels gather insane crowd. Your channel needs all the shine. Please keep it intact. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

We really enjoy your work. Very well done, illuminating, and beautiful. It must be said that by 1900 or so, modernists came along and ignored almost all of Pre-Raphealite aesthetics and craftsmanship - for the most part - and the whole art world began descending into highly lucrative racketeering and fakery. There were exceptions, like Van Gogh, Dali, and others. But the skillful Pre-Raphealites were ruined and despised by 1913. The fine art market today is largely a horror show.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. Actually, the name "art market" is perfect, because that is exactly what it is. It is all about money; that is why almost everyone is "an artist", because they (the great auction hoses and art dealers) need as many "artworks" as possible to sell to the growing mass of wealthy idiots who want to pass for sophisticated art lovers.

@@arslongavitabrevis5136 I'm really pleased that you agree. There aren't a lot of us out here who grasp the terrible tragedy and loss of civilization we've had to endure. Great art is beyond price, inhabiting a realm of pure beauty, beyond death, common falsehoods and distractions. We still have access to that world if we have faith in the Good. BTW, I prefer the dark Rosetti.

Absolutely fascinating, as usual Carel, and yet again a wonderful choice of subject … both stunningly beautiful, as you said, as well as incredibly interesting!!! And thanks for the warning too, you never know when we might find ourselves stuck in the Underworld!! 😁

I have just visited your website and I found a hateful banner that prevented me to see anything and, even worse, I could not get rid of it. Why would you do that?
