I'm hoping they go along with the attitude of the expansion cinematic (Thrall and Anduin) and not the beta cinematic. It seems to be saying that Thrall is having his own "war within" with the elements, but it could also be that the elements themselves are reacting to the influence of the void and not just rejecting Thrall. Not going to get my hopes up that they make it make sense, but one can always dream lol

I don't hear this said often but... The Thrall vs. Garrosh mak'gora is a great cutscne. I would have much rather had Garrosh as a dungeon boss or even a raid boss again, but the cinematic was also enjoyable. Garrosh's voice acting completely sold me on the fact that he truly believed what he was saying-- that Thrall left him alone and basically dumped everything on him. It makes it sound like he's saying genuine words. Ofc, this only shows Garrosh's point od view, which doesn't have to be the objective truth. But I liked seein him show some genuine hurt emotion towards Thrall who was once a father-figure and now felt like abandoned him and doomed him to fail.

it's VERY LIKELY that elements play a role in what defines a 'soul' and they just haven't gotten to that yet. everything that happened in SL was introductory--but horribly cut and unfinished. The take away is that the elements presented back in cata all represented an aspect of Thrall's emotions. An ongoing theme of every shaman quest and even DF--each element has a certain nature and when personified bleeds that quality. Fire is chaotic, spirited, confrontational. Earth is grounded, solid, intellectual. Water is comforting and healing...but sometimes cold. Basically the entire reason Fyrrak was an anarchist, Iridikron & neltharion were schemers, and Vyranoth gave Alexstrasza the 'cold shoulder'--but reconciled. Characters seem to be living metaphors in this world. The choreography in the cinematic leads us to believe that she sees what we are broken down, and apparently it's more than just 'elements of emotion' but rather at our core we have good and evil....light and void. It's clear that through war within they're going to explore this VERY on the nose metaphor for internal conflict--and reference Azeroth as well. That said, if SHE is a being with both light and void in her soul and composed of furious fire, unshakeable rock, flowing waters and storming skies--it's safe to say we do too, especially if we're shamans and in tune with those forces&emotions.

Very insightful! I hadn’t thought about the elements in that way. So then what would air personify? My guess would be that air is proud, bold, fierce and dynamic. Notice in the trailer that air is missing in thralls meditation. It’s like he’s lost connection to it. And while trying to regain that connection, he loses focus with the other elements. Perhaps it is Thralls feelings of shame that blocks his connection to air. He failed the horde, he failed garrosh, and he lost the iconic doomhammer. That’s enough to cause anyone ED 😆

@RC10395 ай бұрын
The political system of the EU might be a more appropriate comparison. The league of nations had a singular objective (peace) while the Horde deals with the whole political spectrum as a group.. in theory (always a few parties that go their own way or block decisions, which actually makes the comparison to the EU even more realistic)
@Evil0tto5 ай бұрын
I don't blame the Horde for choosing a different way. Their story has basically been Chief Hitler--->Reasonable Guy--->Chief Hitler--->Reasonable Guy--->Chief Hitler--->. That's not a cycle you can keep going with forever, because eventually your enemies are going to get really sick of your bullshit and utterly destroy you.
@donjezza105 ай бұрын
@@Evil0tto Granted, The Chief Hitlers were responsible for the Horde at their most competent compared to times when they were led by Reasonable Guys. In latter situations, the Horde typically needed the Alliance and other outside groups to achieve their goals, while the more hated leaders were forces to be reckoned with by both the Alliance and the Horde that disagreed with them. Sylvanas only had half the horde on her side, and they openly admitted that she could still easily win against them both. To be honest, its matters like this that make me wonder why the Horde are even still a faction at all. If them being a faction wasn't made a permanent gameplay mechanic by WoW, I feel like the Horde might've collapsed ages ago.
@Evil0tto5 ай бұрын
@@donjezza10 Except that every single time the Chief Hitlers led the Horde into unwinnable wars. That's not competence. Consistently the Alliance is shown wanting peace (even with kings like Varian) while the Horde puts a madman in charge who commits atrocities. Eventually the Alliance shows up at the gates of Orgrimmar. It's not the Horde that shows up at the gates of Stormwind calling for the King's head. Of course Sylvanas would claim that... but it doesn't mean she was actually correct. The idea that she could "easily win" when outnumbered 3-1 is laughable. It's honestly like when actual Hitler was pushing around units on a map, thinking that victory could still be achieved when everything was collapsing around him. But you're correct that the only reason the Horde still exists is gameplay. There's never any real fallout for anything in the game. There can never be a total victory for either side.
@donjezza105 ай бұрын
@@Evil0tto I do agree, but I would say the Alliance had much more staying power than the Horde do with their circumstances. The Horde are a ragtag group of opinionated misfits who have only worked together for barely three decades (and rather poorly while they did), but the Alliance has been around for multiple generations of both kings and kingdoms. The Alliance's methods and goals have remained consistent simply because they had over centuries to develop and evaluate them. Meanwhile, the Horde just pulls random resources together and makes impulsive decisions on what they can and can't do, regardless of what leader is leading them.

My hope for the Thrall part.......... is that maybe we'll find out that Iridikron has been interfering with the Earth magic of Azeroth on behalf of his void puppet-masters. And it will require Thrall going on a story campaign (with us, the player) to both locate Iridikron and also to defeat Iridikron in a raid. Yes, the first raid of the expansion will be a nerubian queen, but they could always do either the second raid of that expansion or the last raid of the WW expansion where we confront and destroy Iridikron. It could even be possible that as part of our confrontation with him, Iridikron unleashes some kind of dangerous Earth magic attack which makes large cracks and breaks in the entire planet..... so dangerous and harmful that we could rhetorically compare it to the Sundering or Shattering. And if the Sundering and Shattering counted as poetic little 'deaths' for Azeroth..... then this one could also poetically be called a 3rd death. At which point, Xal'atath will exploit that vulnerability so she can survive into the Midnight expansion and since the Titan World Soul itself will be exposed, the Void may consider this the hour of their coming; to fulfill that whisper. But then...... some pure speculation on my part; I'm hoping that maybe the planet cracking apart could also release the Hallowfall naaru crystal. And beyond that, maybe there were more buried Light crystals under other locations like under Ulduar, under Uldir, under Uldum, and so on. And so maybe those Light crystals could get free from their confinement, and recombine into a powerful Holy Light ship or weapon or entity. And maybe through the course of questing in Midnight we manage to activate and prepare that Holy Light ship/weapon/entity to either destroy Dimensius or forever push him out of our reality so he cannot be a threat to our world.

@ProgrQWow5 ай бұрын
Let's not forget that fyrrak absorbed the power of the Firelord. Lore wise fyrrak was more powerful than iridikron, and probably became even more powerful with the shadow flame but iridikron was more cunning and he bested him. I could EASILY see iridikron becoming a lot more powerful and scary. He wants to destroy the titans after all.
@laertesindeed5 ай бұрын
@@ProgrQWow While I don't honestly care about the outcome, since as I previously said.... my sympathies are with the user that wishes Therazane were more valuable to the story...... I think I should push back a little more toward the neutral side when you contend that "lorewise fyrakk was more powerful". Because I'm not seeing any such lore that establishes this. The non-canon book outside the game does not confirm that, as it only contends that Fyrakk may have been the better hunter earlier in their past.....but that when they did whatever it was they did to become incarnates, it only goes so far as to say Fyrakk and Iridikron were equal at that time. And then Fyrakk felt resentful that Iridikron acted as if he was a leader of the group. But then back inside the game with the canon info, we also have the dialogue by Alexstrasza and Nozdormu saying that over the course of their dragon war Iridikron was the one with the hunger who made deals to become more powerful.... how powerful? They don't say. But given the schemes and trips and activities which we have seen Iridikron take part in on behalf of Void puppet-masters....we have every reason to believe that shadowflame isn't necessarily more powerful than what he has gained since they became incarnates. We could even suggest that if Iridikron didn't even have any interest in shadowflame power, perhaps he already has something greater. Regardless, the safer and more accurate lore is to say we're not sure who is more powerful yet. But sadly, as my original comment admits, we have every reason to believe Iridikron could probably not be stopped by Therazane.
@mokarokas-17275 ай бұрын
@@laertesindeed You keep saying the tie-in books are non-canon, but they aren't. They are canon. The WoW team decides what is canon and what is not. Just accept it already. lol It does say something that Iridikron wouldn't show his face to Fyrakk after telling him to absorb the Shadowflame, something that made him SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than Vyranoth and thus quite possibly Iridikron as well. As for Iridikron not taking in the Shadowflame, it's made abundantly clear that he knew it would drive Fyrakk to madness and distract Azeroth's forces from interfering with his true purpose.

@@Wodferd it also didn't use any of the proper procedures for a Mak'gora so it wasn't official to begin with. Also the elements explicitly state in-game they don't give a shit about such human concepts, the ONLY thing that was hindering Thrall from hearing them was his own doubts and troubled spirit. I.e. THRALL felt he had done wrong with Garrosh, either in how it ended or the guilt over the truths in his Garrosh's words (we don't know exactly which, though Thrall convinces himself it was a dishonorable mak'gora). Similar to the Light, you HAVE to have conviction to properly wield the elements but also need peace and balance within to keep the elemental forces in check, since they are complementary and contradictory, working against and with each other, and they need to be properly controlled to be able to wield them correctly. That's why whenever the world elements become imbalanced it creates all manner of problems, the same happens on a micro scale within every Shaman that tries to wield their powers or hear their words. Thrall lost his peace and certainty but his time in Torgast did allow him plenty of soul searching and he did begin to find peace with himself which is why he could somewhat wield the elements again, just not at the level he used to be able to. And is still full conflict over all that has happened thus far.

Omg i took 12 comments abt it to realize the title. Damn. Personally i never liked what they did with Garrosh. Stonetalon was the right direction but they messed it up. Worse the allaince copy paste called Varian who was literally a Thrall turned into a Garrosh didnt have to become a villan. Its just the worse anti horde beeps blizzard made. Then they have doomhammer to a dwarf. And then they had to repeat MOP too with BOA. Then they made thrall a void servant. Still figuring out what the beeps they were on when u consider jaina was literally his counterpart but wasnt involved. I just hate what they did to thrall. I just loved his charector back in wc3 and everything they did starting with the fact that u can kill thrall in vanilla to what they have done now, i just feel someone who hates Metzen is trying to run him out of the VA role too.

He's using the wrong Totem there, that's the Orc's vanilla Totem. But really doing this story again I hate it, just make it a vision of the Elements dying or something.

WoW lore fans are going to be sensitive to this kind of repetition I think. We've just had it so many times, and BfA and SL were kind of hard proof that Blizzard is very capable of recycling to the point of nausea.

yea idk ill always feel a certain type of way for Thrall cheating in a Mak gora, a honorable 1v1 duel based off strength that even garrosh followed on, just for thrall to use the elements/magic to cheat and literally lightning bolt a guy looking for a fist fight...
@ShadowKingRecks5 ай бұрын
This is the point Thrall lost all my respect, Garrosh wasn't wrong about what he said. Thrall knew he wasn't ready to lead but he just tossed it apon Garrosh anyway and then cheated during the Mak gora....Yeah thrall did fail the Horde and Garrosh and we need to see him face that fact and deal with it finally.

By the way did thrall really need to leave? He was already a shaman in warcraft 3 so i don't think he learned anything that he couldn't do then. And now all that "training" he did that never really amounted to anything substantial went down the drain when he killed garrosh? All I'm saying is that if thrall was just honest with us and said he ditched the horde so he could get laid i think we'd have less of a problem with him. Instead it's framed as this mission from on high.And more grandiose that what they'd like us to believe
@mokarokas-17275 ай бұрын
He was never a great shaman before, so during the Shattering he traveled to Nagrand to learn more and Aggra was miles ahead of him. Actually, it was Aggra who convinced him to stop being warchief, since he would not be able to fully commit himself to both. He needed to be a full-on master shaman to save the world. I'm not saying it's good writing, I'm just explaining the canon reason.
@apacalypsagon37585 ай бұрын
@@mokarokas-1727He could summon out of his hammer. What more could he want at that point. He was the greatest shaman to everyone who mattered at that time.All this "spirit journey" nonsense that never amounted to much in the grand scheme of things. Now they have to play into how these moments were more important than what they actually were so they don't lose face.

I hope they don't go the route that the elements (who are chaotic by nature and as unrelated to honour as possible) give 2 sh*ts about a random tradition made up by orcs. Thrall having a mental block over dishonourably killing a genocidal nutjob is also a stupid take.

Is magic allowed in a Mak'Gorah? or did Thrall did not care?

Combatants set the rules of a Mak'gora. Use of magic is not inherantly against the rules of Mak'gora unless specified.

@@coppervic the whole point of mak gora is that no magic or anything not directly related to physical strength (e.g. poison weapons) is allowed. Thrall followed the rules initially but when he was losing he broke the rules and zapped Garry down. It was implied during the shaman legion quests (enh shaman) thaf Thrall lost his connection at some point as a result of killing Garry.

@@coppervic Magic use is strictly prohibited. It is in the literal rules for a mak'gora. That is also why the warcraft movie had a confrontation between Durotan and Gul'dan where Gul'dan used fel magic to win and the orcs watching him called him a cheater.
