You cut the best part. When Daigo destroyed him in Kemonomichi event, Tokido said that he always wants to beat Daigo, atleast in the game. And he'll keep coming back for more. Tokido loses, the tension in the room reaches its peak so Daigo have to allevate some of that, He lightheartedly said: But you've already beaten me in everything outside of it. Tokido just got praise from the legend he has been chasing since the beginning, the man whom he looked up to. And in that moment, Tokido cried. That's what I called manly tears.

@@wyrw Long time necro, but for anyone else thinking that, todai doesn't work like that. It's a true meritocracy, entry is based solely on the results of a single monstrous test where you only get one chance a year and if you fail the first time, you get pretty much permanently stuck as literally 'ronin' from that point on. If you make the cut and the cut is entirely your score vs every other test taker that year with a hard cut when they run out of slots. Once in, it becomes quite difficult to lose your place, but going for it is putting a lot on the line, especially since the tests are scheduled about the same time so you have to make a real hard judgement call as to which universities you want to try for. You might think it's irrelevant to you, but it's open to anyone, foreigners included and if you think you're good enough, you might be able to take it. My dad is a tokyo daigaku graduate and it changed the arc of his entire life. He is not from Japan and went entirely for an education he would never have had the opportunity to have in his home nation.

Tokido is one of my favorite esport player of all time. The story between him and Daigo is like those Japanese manga: He decide to become a pro player instead of studying his Med Master because Daigo announced to be the 1st pro player in Japan, he always want to prove he become stronger than Daigo, fail many time but never give up. Also what his definition of "Legend" in FGC is amazing. There is one time a reporter ask him this question, Tokido said: If there is an alien came to Earth, and it challenge 1 human to play SFV, if he/she lose, we all extinct, who will you gonna call? Tokido answer with even he will call Daigo to save the Earth, and Tokido said he hopes some day it will be him, that's what he call a "Legend"

Even though Tokido has beaten Daigo in tournaments before, the FT10 loss was still so devastating to him because the FT10 format is Daigo's greatest category, stamina and adapation. FT3's are like sprints, while FT10 is a grueling marathon, it tests the player's mental fortitude and sheer experience in adapting and reading the opponent. Like how Daigo's Vampire Hunter streak of 286 wins on a single coin demonstrated, Daigo has monstrous mental stamina and concentration, he is able to stay on peak performance for extremely long amounts of time. No one has ever beaten Daigo in an FT10 except Fuudo, which Daigo promptly defeated in a rematch. Daigo is too busy nowadays to do extensive training for tournaments, however if he knows who his single opponent is, he can study and learn his opponent like nobody else can, in a way he is like the Batman of fighting games, he is unbeatable with prep time. Until Tokido can beat him in an FT10, the format which Daigo excels in, Tokido will always see him a mountain whose peak he has yet to defeat.

this inspired me to start playing street fighter seriously again i used to be a regular player and my history with street fighter has been a bit different than the other players. by the time i was beginning to play video games there were no arcades around me i heard stories from my brother about how he used to sneak out of school to play kof, double dragon (the fighting game based off the terrible movie)cadillacs and dinosaurs, final fight etc.. but he always used to talk about street fighter 2 and i used to listen to his stories awestruck. few years later when i got my PC, i immediately started looking for ways to play the games my brother told me stories about. i found out about emulation and mugen games then found a website (the fighters generation) that had game and character reviews from games i didnt even know existed. browsing that website and playing every fighting game that i could get my hands on quickly became my new hobby those games were old but the 2d sprite animations aged really well the keyboard became my preferred controller and i never could figure out how to play the charge characters like chun-li balrog or vega until much later (they were actually simpler in some areas) i did manage to find some arcades afterwards (where i used to play cross-handed) i kept playing until life happened....

Sonicfox is great at multiple fighting games as well. I think if Tokido continued to play the other games instead of just Street Fighter he would have had more votes. The guy is obviously still good at other games as seen when he made it to 2 Top 8 finishes in King of Fighters XIII at EVO. One of them being in Grand Finals when he lost to Xiaohai who he had a close game with if I remember correctly.

And during an opponents knockdown the offensive player creates an ambiguous setup, forcing the knockdown opponent into a guessing situation. For example does he block left or right? If the defending player guesses wrong he then eats a combo which generally ends in another knockdown and the process is repeated again and again. It gets much deeper than that and if done correctly can be a nightmare to deal with. Tokido perfected the vortex style with Akuma, which eventually created a sort of meta in sfiv. Although I don't think it started in sfiv, it definitely became one of the most effective styles of play.

I remember when I first discovered Street Fighter in the summer of 2015, It was the end of my freshman year, I had only been out of school for maybe a week when I saw the "Games For Gold" section on my Xbox 360, the only good free game I saw for June was: Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. I had previously known it in the past from watching the notorious DarkSydePhil from 2008 - 2012 (Age 8 - 12) I knew of the gameplay a little bit from watching DSP, but it had been a few years since I watched him or anything about Street Fighter in years... So I decided to try it out. Within a month I went from having no knowledge of the game to having a full knowledge of all the character's moves and strategies to beat players consistently. I loved the fast gameplay, the many easy to learn moves and combos, the large roster of characters, but most importantly I was addicted to the feeling of beating another smart player through sheer real time skill and reflexes. I turned out to be a natural when it came to learning the characters of the game, by the end of the summer I had a C Rank with a half a dozen characters, along with a few dozen nice replays. I miss that game, I played it for a year and I got kinda bored of it and just moved on. It's been 2 and a half years since I last played a Street Fighter game, I might try to pickup Street Fighter V and get back into it, although I prefer SF4's style over SF5.

Daigo destroying tokido in practice for kemonomichi against infiltration sparked tokido's desire to be the best, Daigo being tokido's motivation for perfection, and finally challenging Daigo in kemonomichi after being crowned first in the world, but only to be destroyed again. If I'm not mistaken what Daigo said was: "You already beat me in every other thing." Meaning, Tokido is more successful in everything than Daigo but fighting games. He had a better education, black belt in karate etc. I think in Daigo's mind the only success he ever had was in fighting games, but while Tokido has a successful career in fighting games, he is also successful (or at least more successful) in every other thing. And later Tokido said, they were fighting to determide the better player so their life outside of that fight doesn't matter.

Nuki also likes to mention how good Daigo was in Darkstalkers back then, winning every tournament he entered. He is a man worth of the name Beast in any 2D fighting game he takes seriously for sure.
