The RCA VCR numbering system is one of those useless facts I've carried in my head for almost 50 years. Finally, I found a use for it, lol.

I have the Panasonic branded version of the VBT200. I also have one of the home Akai black and white reel to reel video tape formats that came out before Umatic. I like that it can record on ordinary 1/4" audio tape and hate that doing so is really bad for the heads. It doesn't work well either but I was happy to get it to do anything as is.

Yes, sometimes working badly is a great improvement over not working at all. I'd like to have one of those reel-to-reel recorders. I remember those from elementary school. I was given the job to help set it up. It was like magic to me. Probably what gave me my lifelong love of video equipment. Thanks for watching.

Those Panasonic VHS cameras will be dirty mode switch and caps.

Seems like everything comes down to dirty and caps. There was tons of degraded foam on one of them. The other has a mechanical issue. I have yet to see one from 1985 working. Which is ironic that the VCR from 1977 is working. I maybe can fix the mechanical problem if it's something simple.
