It’s like a rifle I had as a kid. Bolt action, single shot. It would shoot .22 short, .22, .22lr. And yes, for us born in the ‘70’s, those calibers did exist. I don’t remember the manufacturer, wood stock, very simple. I could go to town store, get a box of 22lr x 50, for 65 cents. And shoot all day. Loved it

I have a Remington Model 33 that checks all those boxes. Single shot. Bolt action. Cock the hammer manually after feeding a round. Dad gave it to me for my birthday years ago. Very cool little gun. I use it to teach new shooters often.

Interestingly, 22lr ammo has not gotten more expensive. 65 cents in the 1980 equals 2.63 now, so almost exactly 400% inflation. Now if minimum wage was 3.10 in 1980, wouldn't it make sense if the minimum wage was at least 12.5 per hour now?

I have a Scout over under chambered in 22 Hornet and 410/ 45 lc. I have carried that one in my off road truck for decades and love shooting the Hornet rounds. I carry bird shot, slugs, buckshot, and flaries for the 410. Was once lost in the mountains backpacking, before GPS's and the 22 rifle I carried saved my buddy and I from starvation. 10 days lost on a 3 day backpacking trip. I carried one box of 22 bullets and 2- 7 round magazines in my Mossburg 250c 22, and when we found finally found civilization, I had 3 rounds left. It takes a lot of ground squirrels to feed 2 hungry teenagers. I haven't gone into the woods since without at least one survival rifle packed in my backpack. This rifle might be a good one for those trips too!

@@CurtisDrew1 never shot any of these but mentioned the ar5 earlier cause someone wanted to compare it an ar7 ar7 is great but in .22lr I'll stick to my 10/22. No offense but at these price points centerfire cartridges intrigue me more usually. Out of several good to great .22lr pistol and rifles out there I like them best when there are either cheap or I get a unusually good deal on one. Nothing wrong with any of them except you can have the most reliable .22lr in the world and hit a void in primer on the back you get a jam.

didn't finish I guess I just want to know what .22 johnson (5.7mm johnoson) and .22hornet never caught on. I like cheap ammo as much as anyone and low recoil. Just don't like have the occasional rimfire click. Ammo is getting better but that's why you buy this. .22mag in centerfire someone told me the 5.7 was. Hey as a pdw cartridge this idea always resurfaces so there is a need. For it just a matter of which one wins power wise I could care less ammo reliablilty for price wish one could hand down win,

The AR-7 semi auto 7 shot magazine made by Henry is a great little survival rifle in 22 LR . I bought mine years ago I think around 1989 and I replaced the stock that you put the barrel and receiver in to a telescopic stock that my father and I made for it! I still have it and it's a very accurate shooting rifle and very lite weight and I have a Weaver scope on it and it's just a 4x with fine cross hairs and I'm 60 years old and the scope is almost as old as me! I like to keep the little rifle in my backpack for camping and things of that nature just in case the time comes that you need a fire arm with really good accuracy! Like hunting a few squirrels or rabbits to eat while camping out way down in the back woods on the river!

The appearance looks incorrect, but this design does maintain a balanced rifle in your hand during the clumsy reload of a single shot. Even if it was a break action you would maintain the rifle in your right hand and load with your left.

I just got the pistol version with picitenny rail for a SB 1923A brace. With that, and pistol red dot… about 3 pounds. I have a AR SBR .300 BO 8.5”, and Ruger American in .300 BO… that being said this gun is going to be useful In and around .22LR/ .22 Mag/ 5.7/9mm/ .38 Special +P/ .30 M1 U.S. Carbine, maybee. .300 BO is going to be unpleasant to shoot in a 3 lbs gun….. and soo too a 125gr .357 Mag ( based on the 6 pound Winchester 1892 clone I have, in bench sessions.)

Congratulations on reinventing the wheel. A firearm like this has been in existence since the 1960's. It's called the Thompson/Center Contender. The Contender is a break barrel so it's a lot easier to operate. The caliber list is almost endless and the accuracy is extraordinary. A barrel change takes about 60-90 seconds. There are also 4 or 5 companies that make custom barrels that can be had in any configuration you can dream up. I have several custom barrels that literally shoot bughole groups @ 100 yards.

Yes the 5.7 is kind of pricy to use as a plinker but it can be reloaded. Bullets are .224 and capacity is about one grain less than the .22 Hornet. Reloading of the 5.7 has been discouraged because the guns it was made for were blow back operated and pressures had to be duplicated within very tight parameters. this is less of an issue with a locked breach firearm like this. brass life was rather short in blowback arms because they really stretch brass and move the sholder forward. Now we can experiment with different bullet weights, sub sonic rounds and a pound of pouder would last a long time. Slower pouders would probably increase the potential velocity in longer barrels.

I usually don’t get all that excited about single shot Firearms… but they have build a perfect suppressor host. While Fiocci 62 gr subsonic exsists, it is not subsonic in a 16” barrel, nor does every semiautomatic pistol with a can function with it… bolt action is perfect for it

I agree, while it would be ideal as a lightweight survival rifle for small game, it doesn't have any other purpose than that. If it were at the very least mag fed, it could fill a recreational roll as well, and if they made it semi-auto it could be defensive as well.

This is a really cool concept, and I'm happy to see them retailing around $300 online. I would be interested to see if the action can handle a single shot .223 without any major changes. A side mounted 5-10 shot mag for the 5.7mm would be really cool, but there are no existing mags for that which would work so probably unlikely.

Always liked light weight single shot rifles, they are a lot of fun and usually make good target and hunting rifles. Can't wait too see what other calibers they come out with, hopefully as many different calibers as will fit the action.

I have a both a Handi Rifle and a CVA in 300 BLK. A 16 inch barrel on a break action is as slim, compact, and lightweight as you can get. Both are topped with red-dots to keep the weight down. Together they have put 8 deer in my freezer.

Of course it’s larger, it’s a rifle. With the size comes stability, accuracy at distance, and a bit more velocity. Personally, I see it more of a survival rifle aimed at those who already carry 5.7 ammunition in a handgun and want something to pair with it as a way to procure meat in a survival scenario.

If you are going to go this route (various assembly pieces bouncing around in your backpack), make an AR-9 using a cheap screw-on aluminum handguard. Barrel and handguard come off, upper and lower come apart, very compact package that is only as long as the barrel. Can run a 31-round Glock mag instead of going single shot. Somewhat similar to this but has all the same AR features and functions, so no learning curve. Cheaper ammo with greater availability and more diverse choices, too. If you reload, you can approximate the velocity and terminal performance of the 5.7x28 with lighter bullet choices. This 9mm rifle would likely weigh more, but that's the tradeoff you get with having a full-featured rifle that's more comfortable to fire and likely more reliable.

The fixed ejector is likely going to make caliber swapping difficult, as the cut in even a .223 bolt face would be very deep. This suggests the ejector needs to be replaceable too; or that a spring plunger ejector should be used.

5.7 is a interesting round It definitely seems to like longer barrels 500+ fps is such a improvement almost like its 2 different cartridges going from pistol to rifle, it has a really high pressure rating for handgun round (55k 9mm is 35k for example) so this is likely why this occurs

So how long did it take before you were consistently remembering to cock the striker? I'm sure it didn't take too long. But after so many years of working regular bolt guns, I can definitely see where it might take a little while to get your head wrapped around the manual striker thing. Heck, I still remember my first semi after many years of black powder competition and airguns as a young one. There were a few times I'd put the first round downrange and then kind of brain fart for a second or two before realizing "Oh yeah, I don't have to do anything.". Lol.

I dont think the ergonomics are practical enough. I d prefer a break action, break and pop, break and pop. PIstol with 8 and 16.1 in barrels to choose config. Pic rail adapter for folding butt stock. In a 300 blk config, better for deer supersonic, suppressed subsonic. That we be an awesome set up for me.

The basic idea for this rifle is perfectly valid: smallest, lightest, simplest single shot rifle possible, affordable, and for a small bottlenecked .22 centerfire round. Foot mobile, mall game hunters should love this. Apparently, reloaders have found the 5.7's tiny case capacity to be sensitive to varying powder charges, so have a care. Also, even if you don't reload, get in the habit of pocketing your fired brass.

5.7 is very difficult to reload have a friend who reloads and he gave up on it really easy to f up the neck and like you said have to be super precise with powder charge and with cost with primers bullets and your time it's actually cheaper to just buy the ammo

As a survival rifle, the opportunity to take game is fleeting so that lack of a safety makes it less desirable. Unless you can ride the bolt down to the half cock safety. If you could, then we've got something like the old USAF M4 and M5s. Bet subsonics aren't going to waste any more meat than a .22LR, and loaded supersonic, then it has all kinds of potential. But until you can safely carry it with a round in the chamber, thats a deal breaker. Also I have to wonder how much the zero walks with each take down

Stowaway rifle? At least a Marlin Papoose came with a storage bag and the Henry Survival rifle stored within itself! Both are semi-autos to boot.
