A great tale! There is a brilliant Penguin book I commend to you for more like this. It is "The Lore of the Land - A guide to England's Legends, from Spring-Heeled Jack to the Witches of Warboys". It is a weighty tome but thoroughly fascinating for stories like the Thakeham Ghost.

Hello Richard! Tammie here. I too have seen a ghost. Here in the US, in the midwest, as it's called, we used to have what they called 6-mile houses where you could rest yourself and your horses after travel. My mother's home is not even a mile from that old house which is now a museum. One night I woke to a man standing in the doorway of my bedroom. He was standing there facing down the hallway and turned his head to look at me. I closed my eyes and opened them again, he was still there! Standing in red long underwear with a pole over his shoulder and a bandana tied to the end of it which was holding something, sort of like the hobo's did. He looked at me and grinned and then faded away. Many years later, we found out that there were 3 graves in my mother's yard along with a horse. Believe it or not. True story.

Great story Richard. The woman with the lamp at the crossroads was trying to warn him about the fire but as he was afraid of her he went around her. Seeing this, the woman with the lamp went to the house to save the child herself. That’s my interpretation if it’s worth anything. Love your stories Richard 😊😊

ummm this is an interesting little find Brighton had a street/lane called Pimlico. infamous and once considered one of the worst streets in Brighton which by the time of the Ordinance Survey 1876 was replaced with a new street called tichbourne st....via this link it has quite interesting stuff about the area.though it seems that maybe a tad later than the book when that Pimlico came into being .www.mhms.org.uk/content/street-history-orange-row-0

Having lived in several haunted houses I can tell you that it is quite possible this tale is quite likely to be true. In one house I lived in, I was woken by a presence who spoke to me very calmly in what felt like an extremely trustworthy voice, telling me a friend, who had a room in the roof above me, had fallen asleep leaving a candle burning in an unsafe place. I immediately went up the stairs & found that the candle was burning in a flat wooden holder, on a rush mat, under a wooden beam, only inches from my friends bedcovers.

'The Lady with the lamp' did her good deed: she had lost her own baby, but saved another, if all to be believed. Well told, and a happy ending. It would have been even more atmospheric if filmed after dark, with perhaps a wind stirring the trees and hedges, and especially at the crossroads!

A simular grave lies between the A14 and Newmarket where the Gypsy Boy is buried. It's believed that they took their life after they thought they had lost a farmers sheep he was looking after and in those days sheep theft was punished with death so they took their own life instead and so they were buried at a cross roads. The grave is still there today and people still tend the grave. It's said that the colours of the ribbons on the grave are also the colours of the winning horse at that year's Derby.

Ghosts are a strange phenomenone , there are 2 kinds No 1, where the the apparition / event is memorised by the surroundings . it,s a like Video recording that repeats and repeats . the Ghost is long dead , In the late 80s there was a programme called Ghost Hunters Willam Wollard narrated it , in one programe was a plumber working in a cellar below nearby York Minster. , he heard music in the background thinking it was someone upstairs , suddenly a horse appeared through a wall with a Centurian mounted, he could not see the the bottom of the horses legs as they were obscured by the platform attached to the wall, as the horse cleared the short platform the legs appeared walking on the original Roman Road , they were followed by Legionaires marching behind . he could hear the noise of the horse and men on the cobbled road and could smell the horse and men as well . They then disappeard through another wall , The guy went upstairs to report his job had finished, looking quite shocked, the office guy said whats up with you? have you seen the Romans then ? how did you know asked the Plumber , people see then all the time here,!!! it,s thought that for some unknown reason that the event is recorded by the surroundings , this applies to ghosts seen in haunted houses etc they are just recordings No 2 deals with Ghosts that are real . they have conciousness and awareness that they had when alive , now they are in Limbo stuck between the 3rd and 4th Dimension , some chose this for their own reasons , others ar lost souls, Sorry it was a bit long
@RichardVobes5 жыл бұрын
No problem on the length - I enjoyed reading your explanation! :)

@@RichardVobes As a footnote some Roman Experts quizzed our Plumber on the dress of the Legionaires , he said that they had round shields amongst other comments, the experts replied that,s wrong because the Roman shields are rectangular, To show the veracity of what he saw the experts discovered that Legions of British origin troops were given round shields unlike the Roman soldiers .
