Hey all, this one took a little longer because we've had a heatwave here in the UK and I just haven't been able to sleep at all, so that's why I look like I haven't slept in about a year - recording this was a nightmare, haha! Please do share your thoughts in regards to Cullen's disappearance
@mosspiglet87663 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam, thank you for the video👍 It is possible Cullen found the road to the left of your distance line and travelled it North far enough for his phone to ping, hoping to meet his family coming for him, hiding from traffic that wasn't them. Then decided better to return to the cabin because he hadn't seen them. Such a sad case.
@fosterdan44973 жыл бұрын
Another point I think you should have brought up, or maybe it's too delicate of a subject? Knowing his condition, knowing these episodes happen, knowing the medication that he is on, I mean all this to me says not to let this person be alone in a situation like that, in the woods or on the water or somewhere he could become disoriented and seriously hurt, as we see happened. Hopefully there was no thought or doubt as to whether or not he could be in this environment alone and be okay? Because if there was then I'm sure that would be one of the things that would haunt this family for the rest of their lives, and it may be one of the things that they questioned their selves about everyday.I feel very sorry and sad for them. My personal belief is in God, and I believe one thing for sure God sees and knows all. So his, and other deaths under mysterious circumstances, it is known how and why. And hopefully these families have a belief in God and that is their strength and their peace.

@glendanison30643 жыл бұрын
I think the simplest explanation is the best. A combination of CTE and medication lead to a psychotic episode. As far as the phone pings go I don't think there are too many towers in the area. This is the least populated county in the lower peninsula with less than 12,000 and is entirely within the Manistee National Forest. Sad, tragic loss but I really don't see too much of a mystery here. Still, great video as always.
@hatuletoh3 жыл бұрын
The explanation for the phone "pinging" 11 miles away from where the body was found might just be that that was where the closest cell tower was. A "ping" usually means that a phone has connected to the closest tower, it doesn't say anything about the exact location of the phone. The sort of explanation journalists tend to omit.

@@ThePresentation010 uhhhhh not at all, this is not a "basic woods story" by any stretch of the imagination. This is a very maintained and rather small campground many frequent often, it was less than a couple of miles from residential roads anywhere you went that you would run into. He was found in a field that was previously searched multiple times and they were unable to pinpoint a cause of death and eventually settled with choking on vomit and being hypothermic. He made many mentions of brush being thrown at him while he was on the River fishing. He was alone and things quickly went south after his solo fishing expedition. There's a lot of weird s*** that goes on in Michigan in general and this is just one sad example from someone who was young, capable, fit, strong and well experienced in the outdoors, who died tragically with a lot of mystery surrounding him still

This is a very bizarre case, I agree. Two things that really stand out are: 1) They said that “hypothermia was caused by vomit” which is odd as I thought hypothermia was caused by exposure to severe cold, not vomit… and 2) They stated that a number of people go missing in that exact area every single year - and - that they wander around for a few days and then they are found. Huh? Why wouldn’t those people find the roads or cabins or other places that they expect that Colin should have found? Did anyone ask any of them what they saw or what happened while they were missing? It certainly makes me wonder what’s really happening in that area. Thanks for another great head-scratcher. Have a great weekend.

I looked it up because that weirded me out too and apparently in some cases hypothermia can be induced when the body is too exhausted to maintain proper temperatures. Which can happen when you are too sick or intoxicated. Sickness can be caused by inhaling vomit. Or maybe he had such a violent panic episode that he went into shock which lead to hypothermia. Who knows? Either way it all sounds like a perfectly tragic storm of things. So sad and scary.

This is one of those cases where I have to wonder if the family is withholding some of the details, such as when it was suggested that he "may have thought he saw something", that there may have been more detail passed from Cullen to the family, but possible omitted by the family to the authorities. If they perceived it as being a hallucination or paranoid episode, they may have felt it unimportant to add. For instance, if he was seeing humanoid figures, they may have left that part out since it is pretty widely accepted that those types of things would fall under hallucination and that hallucinations cannot physically harm anyone, so it was not important to relay and may have even made him look "crazy". Whether he has "episodes" or not, it is entirely possible that he reported seeing something that made him fearful to his family. It is also entirely possible that he very well did see something. One of my bigger questions is why he would have left the safety of the cabin, if he was so fearful. It tends to make me wonder if whatever was bothering him was perhaps inside with him before he made the decision to leave or was perhaps right outside and he felt that it would inevitably get inside to him, leaving him feeling like a sitting duck. Whatever the case may be, we know very well that reports of becoming fearful, scared or nervous have occurred prior to other people having gone missing. Because of this, we shouldn't overlook this element, from my point of view. Additionally, Oxycodone does not cause people to hallucinate or become nervous, even in people with brain cancer. Yes I know CTE is not brain cancer, I'm using that as an example because it is a disease that is well known to cause sensory disturbances due to neurodegeneration. It's typically the disease itself, if those elements are present. I should also note that elevated levels of Oxycodone are evident in people that take them on a regular basis for chronic pain. The report did not state that the levels were beyond therapeutic levels, which would lead me to believe that this would likely have only been a small contributing factor. Elevated levels are to be expected in someone that takes these types of medications for chronic pain, even if the levels are elevated beyond what would normally injure or kill an 'opioid naive' person. I have only some very basic knowledge of CTE and now have a better understand of the episodes that the family was referring to. Even still, because we see these same elements in other cases, it seems as if it would be highly possible that there was more at play here than meets the eye. For instance, if Paulides is to be believed, then those with disabilities like CTE would be in one of the allegedly targeted groups. It's a shame that these disappearances are kind of a niche topic and that the common elements are not more widely known. If they were, perhaps we would be finding more answers instead of seeing more frequently emerging questions. Anyhow, I feel terribly for Cullen Finnerty's family. No matter what occurred, it's clear that something did and that they lost a beloved family member over it. It's not my intention to diminish that aspect in any way. Regardless of the answers to many of the lingering questions, the fact remains that they've lost someone that they dearly miss and love. Whatever the case may be in reality, the things that I'm sure of are that this was a terrible tragedy and my heart goes out to his family and friends. Excellent video once again, my friend! Phenomenal work, keep shining that light on the bizarre!

Sad to say but probably because he wasn't a more successful quarterback at the professional level. He had a distinguished college career but it was at Division II not Division 1 which also could be a contributor. Unfortunately his NFL career didn't pan out. Again I'm not saying it's right but if Tom Brady had been in the same situation I think you would hear about it all over the news nationally , whereas with Cullen, like you said that really wasn't the case. I am sure it was a huge story in that area.
@thescarletgraywitch80523 жыл бұрын
Thing is Damien, there's no mention that CTE was confirmed, and your comments are a big part of the reason that I question the accuracy of that diagnosis. CTE was identifiable at the time of his autopsy, yet no mention is made of the brain. Add to this that there's been no discussion of this tragedy linked with the publicity push of CTE and TBI awareness, and I really question that assumption. I just wonder if this really came down to drug abuse or addiction and the family just doesn't want people to know that that was his struggle. I take pain meds and because I use it as recommended for pain, I never become woozy or disoriented, so just taking his pain meds as prescribed makes that a questionable result also. I think as brave as he was that it's saddest we don't know Brian's wishes. Had he lived, and recovered from his issues, he'd have been a great ambassador for any issue.

Interesting that so many of these disappearances happen in the woods/forest. Panic comes from the Greek panikon, literally "pertaining to Pan," the god of woods and fields, who was the source of mysterious sounds that caused contagious, groundless fear in herds and crowds, or in people in lonely spots. In the sense of "panic, fright" the Greek word is short for panikon deima "panic fright," from neuter of Panikos "of Pan."

The ping could be that, the tower that the ping was made on was the closest tower within the large area that he was found. Especially if he was found on higher ground. 11 miles though does seem a heck of a long distance. But it's only a suggestion. As for his fear, that could be a simple panic attack, having suffereed these myself, I know they are horrid events, and can make you act different to your normal behaviour. One of my attacks happened when nothing was on tv, and I started to feel scarred for some reason, I tried going to the toilet, thinking that would stop the fear, and tried getting into bed and going to sleep, but the fear just got worse and worse and I ended up getting dressed & walking a mile to my mothers home in an absalute state at sometime after midnight. Something nothing like me at all, Another time was while shopping where suddenly I couldn't cope & I had to abanndon my shopping & trolly in the store & run outside in shear terror. I always suspect that food has something to do with panic attacks, like coffee, coke etc & possibly fattening foods or salty foods or even alcahol. That may trigger either a missed heartbeat or palputations while the body works on the food or even just a stomach upset & then trigger a fear of dying or that something ominous is about to take place. The fact that he had just eaten would play into this, you also don't need to have sufferered mental health issues to have panic attack & they are much, much worse than "just a panic attack" & can send you into a complete state of total fear & confusion, but again just a theory of mine.

I believe what Mr Finnerty suffered from was a Psychotic Episode or a Break as it's often called. Normally it begins as the individual starts to display subtle changes in behavior and attitude as well as thoughts and perceptions. As the 'break' begins it's first stage, or Prodrome, the person will be confused, hear things and misunderstand what's going on. I believe THIS was the stage that Cullen Finnerty was in while fishing along the river. Most will come out of this stage and then seek treatment which may last upwards of six months. Medication will then be used to stop these episodes in the future. However, Mr Finnerty never got the chance for treatment and died there in the woods. Perhaps of a heart attack due to the sheer terror and paranoia of the situation that had befallen him. RIP Cullen Finnerty, Warrior....

Of the Missing 411 criteria fitting cases where there is a last contact made via phone, they all are eerily similar. Victim is panicked and scared of "something", but can't/doesn't elaborate on what it may be and then they seem to just vanish moments after. I really want to know what they are seeing.

I almost wonder if he wasn’t actively trying to avoid the searchers. If the circumstances triggered an episode of anxiety, panic and paranoia, it stands to reason if he saw or heard the searchers, he may have thought they were out to get him. That would have certainly kept him in that full-blown anxiety state and maybe caused his heart to give out.
@hazeld37033 жыл бұрын
I think people must panic and avoid searchers more often than we’d think. Read a case about a women who disappeared along the Appalachian trail, found later starved to death in her little camp, within easy distance of some mountain bike trials. The news reports at the time mentioned that she had recently gone off of or ran out of her anxiety meds - a detail that had been lost in the retelling.

I recently found your channel and have been enjoying bingeing it since. I just ran across an episode where you were responding to comments left by people that were giving “feedback” and multiple people were comparing you to Chills and saying it sounded like you were copying. I just wanted to say that I completely disagree. I think there is a very distinct difference between the way the two of you sound and I really enjoy the tone and sound of your voice. I know that video was a while ago but I just found it today so I wanted to say something. Thank you for producing such enjoyable content 😊

I’m really starting to think that the silence in the woods and it causes anxiety in people and fear. That makes them run off unprepared. I never had anxiety but once on a plane I had a full blown anxiety attack and had some crazy thought of maybe they will just open the door and let me out. Thank god an attendant saw it coming and talked me down. And gave me a glass of wine. It chilled me. I think this happens to people in woods. I think a form infrasound might cause this sudden onset and some maybe more susceptible to it.

And about the pings, could it be possible that since he was out in the woods, the towers several miles away were just the closest ones? Maybe pinging off of the one 11 miles away made it look like the phone was near that tower, but actually the closer one it had been pinging off before got busy (?) and relayed him to another tower when the phone didn't actually move? I feel like there have been a lot of cases where we've all sort of had to accept that cell tower pings aren't the same as location data and aren't reliable for determining location.

Very strange. I'd like to point out a few things , based on your narrative. 1; he said he was scared , being hit by brush , while on the pontoon. 2 ; how far away was his family ? 3 ; how far away from the cabin was the dock ? 4 ; Colin said he saw two men . The owner of property he was found on also heard some yelling , disturbance . Why it it , therefore , presumed Colin was being just paranoid ? 5 ; the bizarre account of his mobile phone pings . 6 ; how long after calling his wife did his family arrive on scene ?

This happened less than an hour from my current home and my childhood home. I paid close attention to any stories about it because of that. I don't know why people insist that there was something paranormal. This is a very isolated area with spotty cell service. That 11 mile cell tower may have been the closest. If you have an episode when you're alone, fishing, it could easily become fatal. If he hadn't been a football standout, I don't think you'd ever hear about it.

Oh man I didn't know you were gonna do this one....wow....man this one always hurts when I first hears about it from Paulides.....I mean just such an absolute legend I mean the man sounds like an absolute legend just pure heart and power and skill and will. but the ending is just as tragic as it gets...and made all the more worse because I mean they were literally in contact with him during it he was alive he was fine! and then only to find him soonish and he's gone.....its just so tragic for his young wife and kids it really hit me hard this one for some reason, I honestly dont know what to make of it though, its obviously perfectly rational and fair to speculate or heck even assume his career damage he had received over the years- to tough for there own good- is a phrase that often comes to mind with studs like this man here, so the pretty much fact right that he almost certainly for sure had some brain damage and that could absolutely cause symptoms of psychosis and paranoia to just flair up basically at will....and yet the actual manner and cause and the fact he died at all still simply does not add up or really compute with that....unless as Paulides sort of suggested/speculated at that he and a few others in these situations were essentially literally "scared to death" but first of all A what would even scare this man? he seems like the kind of man who would literally run into a burning collapsing sky scraper or swim up from the ocean and head onboard the Titanic during a disaster...is it possible his cte and etc. literally caused him to hallucinate some what horrible image that literally just scared him to death basically? and if that wasn't it then again what are the odds he had a basically partial psychotic break/paranoid breakdown caused by say cte but then also at the same time simultaneously ran into trouble out there be it a couple of random what serial killers up to no good- and since he wasn't shot I just dont see that as a viable potential explanation because again I'm pretty sure you'd need like 4 in shape big guys to take down 1 Cullen and you'd need a gun likely to kill him and nothing like that of a fight aside from his somewhat twisted garders were an issue on his person, or is it genuinely a supernatural occurrence did he have literally the single worst bout of random bad luck ever and not just sufferer from a cte related paranoid episode/psychosis but also again at the same time simultaneously see and witness a straight up supernatural entity of some kind a predator haunting and stocking him which then either killed him in ways that cant be identified by us right now medically, or again that scared him to death.....or did he not have a cte related episode at all and is it something else entirely? its damn frustrating that will almost certainly never truly know for sure but I think any and everything's on the table potentially with this case, I absolutely know 100 percent that the supernatural spiritual realm is very real I just wish it made sense, but in the end based off what we do know and his own words on the phone in his last talks with his wife/family, I genuinely believe its either the more at least comparatively speaking "rational" explanation and he had some type of head/brain trauma/cte whatever related issue that basically just came up at random causing him to become paranoid, experience psychosis possible hallucinations etc., then went on basically a run from things that he created from his own mind in his own head and then that extreme exhaustion from just running like crazy along with extreme fear in the end led to his body just giving out unfortunately.....or something truly unusual happened even supernatural and he wasn't hallucinating one bit and in fact flat out had a run in with some type of evil spiritual/demonic entity which again in turn either directly killed him- which may or may not be unusual for such a thing its at least not exactly heard of paranormal activity to that degree very often, or this very real very legitimate hunting him down demonic /spiritual malevolent entity likewise led to him still being scared to death in the end.

I've seen most of your videos & still everytime you pause & say..... Right. I feel like I missed something 😆. Great channel though. You definitely put a lot of time & effort into these videos. You do a much more thorough job than many others when it comes to breaking down these cases. Also, anyone who studies these cases knows it's not foul play. There are spirits & cryptid type entities in the forests & for unknown reasons & at unknown times they come alive. The people who end up victims in these situations are seemingly locked in a different dimension from their perspective. That seems to be the most common theme among the people that are all the sudden found alive in places that have been searched for days, weeks. Same goes for when people end up dead. The body is found days later, weeks later, once again in an area that has been searched over & over. All sudden there they are as if they're brought back from a dimension, realm, that we cannot perceive with human eyes.
@thinlineofsanity10353 жыл бұрын
What if he was still alive when the searches started? He was panicking, paranoid, possibly delusional, and even possibly hallucinating - if he stayed alive til searchers went in its extremely likely that his paranoia and belief that ppl were out to get him only got worse. And of course he'd run from searchers if he didn't understand they were there to help him. If he genuinely thought they were trying to harm him he'd keep moving, hide, and and not answer to the searchers. You've said numerous times there was no cause of death, but ive watched a few yt vids covering his case, and all of those said the cause of death was exhaustion. He also had his own feces on his face and up his nostrils. I remember those vids made it sound as if he literally kept moving, sometimes running for those several miles thinking he was being chased til he eventually collapsed and died from exhaustion.

Hi Adam. I am a new fan of your channel. The videos are so very well done. I particularly appreciate the documentary style and rational approach you take when presenting these fascinating stories of real events. I am from the state of Michigan and have spent time in the northern areas of both the lower and upper peninsulas of what is known as "The Great Lake State". I have a medical background and presently work in the field of mental health. I believe there are pieces of this tragic story that fit together. This man had a history of closed head injuries. He suffered from a related degenerative neurological condition. There were headaches mentioned in the days immediately prior to his untimely death. It sounds to me like there may have been a sudden psychotic episode that would explain his fearfulness and perception that he was in imminent danger from others who meant him harm. The voices could have been hallucinations. Depending on the growth of the forest floor spotting his body may not have been easy. He may have been avoiding the roads that transected the forests where he was found believing he needed to stay hidden to be safe. I lean heavily toward the belief that there was a medical explanation for what happened related to what was going on in his brain at the time. I would have been interested in more specifics of what the autopsy revealed as far as the size of the ventricles containing cerebral spinal fluid inside his brain. Was there a sudden bleed? Perhaps something creating pressure inside the skull caused his headaches? Was there any swelling? If there was swelling the brain stem could have become constricted at the base of the skull that would result in death. The headaches are a major clue I believe, in explaining what happened to this poor young man. Thank you for presenting this story.
