I am really frustrated by the lack of limited five star male character skins, how is it possible we still don't have a single one??? out of all the skins we have only three out of fifteen💀 are for male characters (and none of them are for limited characters), and if the leaks about lantern rite are correct it will soon be three out of seventeen, I am losing hope that things will get better for us husbando enjoyers, like, I have SO MANY crystals saved from the welkin moon just in case any of my favs get a skin but feels kinda pointless to be saving them when the likehood of my favs (alhaitam, scara, kazuha, xiao, ayato) getting a skin are smaller than my will to live

My guess is it's a combination of not wanting to dilute characters' recognizability (so the most iconic ones rarely get them), and trying to maintain quality-over-quantity so people feel like the skins are worth the money and we aren't being constantly inundated with new microtransactions. Archon skins are probably being saved for something they haven't revealed yet. The game makes such ridiculous profits anyway that there isn't much reason for them to risk diluting the brand or art style with too many alternate outfits.

The crazy thing for me is that Genshin has done collabs with a bunch of different companies over the years. I think the alt outfits would be a great skins. I still would love to have the Noelle KFC outfit as a skin. We obviously don't know the behind the scenes but I can't imagine that turning these into skins wouldn't be profitable.

As the proud owner of both Mona figurines, I'd actually argue I would rather have her get the merchandise all the characters you listed are getting. Figurines are wonderful, but things like unqiue collabs, desk mats, acrylic stands, and especially clothing brands offers more variety. Maybe that's partly why we don't get a lot of Genshin figurines- there's a wider audience for the smaller (and cheaper) collectibles. Your proposal of "new skin + new kit" is a concept I've been pondering for a while. And yes, it's because I really want something for Mona. A fangirl can dream- the idea of her getting a skin that can make her a dedicated buffer would be fantastic. But at this point, I think Genshin devs have already settled with the idea that these skins need a "purpose." They can't just have a character suddenly change clothes for no reason. While I admire the dedication a bit, I personally don't need a reason. Especially if it's as simple as just switching models. Hoyo would make millions alone if they released a Scaramouche Skin for Wanderer, a skin for Arlecchino in her Boss form, and a skin for Childe with his darker, Foul Legacy suit. These models already exist- offering them as a skin can't be as difficult as making brand new ones!

If they drop an arlecchino skin, im instantly buying it. 3 mins in. Another weird thing is wind gliders. They could easily fill the game with different gliders. Package them with skins, give em out for events, add them in regions like they did with dragonspine. Put them in the imaginarium theater. Why aren't there desert wings, or sanganomiya wings or special wings attached to skins like dilucs. Imagine if instead of a red fire trail we got a pair of flaming wings that have a red fire trail coming off them. Imagine if the theater added character based wings instead of those trails or camera poses, or alongside them. Missed opportunity.

5:00 Like how Hoyo wasn’t allowed to buff Zhongli in 1.3? They even fundamentally reworked how Geo shields work in 1.3, lowering the dmg absorption they have against Geo but raising their absorption against all other dmg forms. Buffing characters in Gacha games is not illegal, I’ve seen it happen before, the legal issues only start if a product that used to do something previously suddenly stops doing it at some point, because some people only bought the product because it could do a certain thing. The only reason Hoyo doesn’t do it is because they don’t want to. They could grant new abilities and increase scalings/stats without legal issues as long as they don’t disrupt old abilities

that was also due to the fact zholgli just came out as so was allowed to be buffed a character cant be changed after a period of time that they were out for like what happened with neuvillete other game try to buff old unit in a different way like in dragon ball legend it called "zenkai awakend" where some unit can be buffed to match the current meta unless hoyo adds a whole feature to make the units stronger it probably wont happen

To be honest direct buffs are also the laziest way of implementing things. Genshin is a game about synergies and even in other Gacha when buffs happen to older units it's not like it's a real equalizer it's meant to make them litterally Playable Where as in Genshin there's no unit that gets invalidated by some gimmick or mechanics Messing with a Kit can make things worse even in Zhonglis case he's "better" but as a shield bot but at the cost of other shields and even Zhongli as a unit

Yeah, there's actually no legal issues with that at all. I don't really know where that misconception came from, since many other gacha games did it before genshin's release, and continue to do so currently. Not only that, but they have done so themselves with Zhongli, and they've even directly nerfed characters on several instances, so even with hoyo games in mind specifically it doesn't make sense. Does that mean I expect more buffs in the future ? No, but it's definitely something they could do if they ever wanted to

They release skin based on lore which is super cool. Diluc got his skin tied to a quest about his past. Ganyu got her skin as a gift from Cloud Retainer. Nilou got her skin as the fairy princess hinting that she is the heir to Nabu Malikata the wife of King Deshret also known as the Goddess of flowers. Klee got a witch hat hinting that she will join the Hexenzirkel just like her mom Alice. The next skin I would predict is Mona she should also join the hexenzirkel just like her master did, she is basically groomed to learn the secrets

I genuinely believe a Zhongli Morax skin would sell better than half the banners in the game. Same for all the archons, giving then their archon/boss form skins would go so hard it would break all gatcha revenue charts. Lantern rite and the summer event are the two times they bring skins. Lantern rite is working its way through the Liyue cast and the summer event had been doing Mondstadt characters a lot. I do wish they had more and especially archon skins. Fact I have shenhes skin but no shenhe. We could easily be getting stuff for Lantern Rite like a Purified Xiao, Master Chef Xiangling, & Hanfu Kazuha, or for an Inazuman Narukami & Watatsumi Shrine festival Sakura Bloom Yae Miko, Serpent Priestess Kokomi, & Lavender Melon Bloom Kuki, or have an event where Tighnari decides to help the Akademiya with something so him and Collei get lab student uniforms, or a Fontaine beach episode with Navia, Clorinde, & Freminet in cool swim suits that would sell super well (I couldn’t think of a reason why Wriothesley or Neuvillette would ever be caught having a beach episode)

I think the criteria about making skins is quite consistent most of the time: 1) Most skins are completely related to an event story, so most of the time, it will be one of several characters participating in the event that would get a skin that also has some lore implications. 2) In almost every skin, it's given to some character that it's either on the standard pool of 5* or is a 4* from version 1.0 (lately, this criteria has been a little less consistent) 3) Characters that have skins are usually really popular. You can argue a lot about this last point, but those characters sell the skins even if most people say they don't like them (looking at all Ayaka fans, me included). This will be more evident in the future when two pyro polearm users from certain China-inspired country get new skin in a future patch. I don't think it is worth getting new skins in a short period of time, nor I believe getting mew skins with renew kits is a good idea. I rater prefer newer characters that make some older units viable again than replacing the original utility from the old kits. But if we even get to the point of having new forms for old characters, I hope they make it free to redeem instead of a paywall. I mean, you already pulled for the characters.

Some of the reasons why for not a lot of skins releasing. 1) Quality control. Recoloring can come off as cheap and lazy, and from the music to the landscapes to the lore, genshin is anything but. 2) Character identity and skin significance. Every skin is an opportunity to tell a story or portray something about a character, that’s ammo they wouldn’t wanna waste. Additionally, each skin is something to identify characters by, so skins can have a “diluting” effect on characters if it’s not backed by any substance. Not to mention that it can be confusing to newer players. 3) Combat/idle animations. Skins are tied closely to character animations. Any new skin would be required to fit and complement pre-existing animations. 4) Unique assets. Every new skin, whether it’s for a new character or a re-skin of a current one, is one less color/design palette that’s unavailable for a future character. Every skin, even the reskins, have had their own distinctness/uniqueness. This will become more and more challenging as more skins are created. 5) Setting a scarcity precedent. Right now, skins are rare and sought after. They make meaningful rewards due to that and can make an event even more special if a skin is available for it. It would make sense for them to want event rewards to feel significant, and to avoid creating a precedent of frequent skin drops, so they’re gonna want to reserve skins for such events.

Imagine giving Dehya a dress similar to Ning's skin, something completely impractical for a mercenary, but elegant in a way that Dehya just isn't. My take is that Hoyoverse, like most companies, is profit driven, and sales from new outfits would be exponentially lesser than that of new characters. That said, they probably view new skins as rewards for long term players, and they choose legacy characters over new ones. Skins for newer characters might also diversify attention and confuse new players, thus it's probably better from a financial stand point to put more resources into new characters instead.

I feel like skins could also be a nice way to buff older units by just giving them a little boost. Like give Mona a skin that buffs the teams reaction damage after she uses her ult. Or give Albedo a skin that (gives him the hair he deserves and) buffs ally speed within his skill. Or even as small as simple stat boosts like giving Beidou a flat 10% Energy Recharge, or Yoimiya 12% Crit. Rate, etc.

This is the reason why I use mods. I'd happily buy skins for characters I like (and have done so in the few instances where it actually happened), but they don't really seem too interested in doing so at the moment. Moreover, even if they started releasing more of them in the near future, they could never hope to match the total output of the modding community anyway. Regarding buffs being tied to skins, where exactly did the misconception that kit updates are illegal came from ? Not only have many other gacha games done so very frequently, but mihoyo themselves have done so on multiple instances, both with direct buffs, and direct nerfs. They could easily do it withput any legal trouble whatsoever, but they are just not interested in doing so - at least for now On the topic of figures, I think it's just a matter of how long it takes. I'd certainly be happy if there was a broader selection to choose from, and not just for figures, but other merch as well. I think they kinda expect us to buy merch from fan artists, with how they allow them to legally sell all sorts of genshin merch - and since there are so many fan artists, there's almost always one that has what your're looking for. But I'd still prefer to have more official options, since they tend to be of higher qulity and also more readily available

I think the top of Kaeya's skin is amazing - the new hair, the details, the hair clip (so cute), the sleeves, the peacock theme... everything is amazing. But if you look lower, the skin is starting to look kinda weird? The reason is his pants... Very harsh contrast. His pants are very simple, bland, very bright but the top is very detailed, rich in colors. If his pants were black or with other shape, it would look so much better. I still love this skin, tho. He's a very pretty boy.

Also with how much they put emphasis on immersion and the skins fitting the character both model, theme and story, it might actually be somewhat easier and probably more profitable to just put the effort into making new characters

In Fire Emblem Heroes, you can buy alternate skins for certain very old and powercrept characters. When you do, all of that character's stats are increased by 2 regardless of whether you use the default or alternate skin. I'm...not sure whether that'd be a good thing for HoYo games. Doesn't help that Dan Heng・Imbibitor Lunae is technically a separate character since he is acquired in the gacha like most other characters and can be deployed alongside regular Dan Heng, unlike March 7th whose Hunt Path is given for free and cannot be paired with Preservation March 7th (much like the Trailblazer's and Traveler's separate Paths and elements).

Holding out for Hoyo to release Divine skins for all the archons at the end. But besides that, they could easily have chosen any of the following to get a skin: Albedo (for the hair), Xiao, Hu Tao, Kazuha, Yelan, Kokomi, Cyno (bc ya know, he has 2 quests, I think he’s deserving of a skin), Alhaitham, Navia, & Neuvillette. I definitely feel like they could ramp it up to at least 4 sets of skins per version, with 2-4 skins per set. Honkai Impact 3rd, Hoyo's other game, actually releases outfits every single update, both free and paid, often with gameplay effects being changed (those are also free often). There is no reason whatsover why Genshin outfits situation is so bad in comparison, while HSR and ZZZ are failing to even introduce outfits. It's telling that the first outfit Sparkle gets is in Honkai Impact, because other Hoyo games just can't deliver when it comes to outfits!

from what i've seen, most of genshin's merch tends to be released in china, and unfortunately, they're just not really selling them outside of their home land. i also know the genshin devs spend a lot of time on animating their skins (individual pieces, making them flow, etc). whatever it is, they seem to want to incorporate the skin into the lore or some kind of event explaining the reason why. iirc, i remember someone saying that in china, it must be emphasized that the skin is different and not reflective of the original product cause of laws existing that goods shall not be altered after originally released--so those people who want dehya to be buffed are basically talking to a wall. we have seen it where those laws are used against mihoyo until they backtrack to avoid government scrutiny so it's pretty easy to see why they're hesitant to make changes and are pretty conservative in their approach to changes in the game. either way, i have not taken diluc off his rdon skin since it dropped. as much as i like his original ( i really like his coat and i would wear it since it's one of the few designs where it would actually be functional in the real world), i just really enjoy his outfit and the color contrast. also, i'm still curious as to who designed it since it has the same design language as the fatui, particularly, arlecchino.

I actually do expect zzz to end up getting a large amount of skins since it takes more inspiration from hi3 with lore and game design. Hi3 gets around 2-4 skins every update, with literally every character having at least one skin, so I really wouldn't be surprised.

hoyo for some reason does not like things if the thing doesnt work into the lore of genshin, like, everything has a lore reason even the weekly boss drops are actually something traveler mentions, but then you look at hi3 and wow every character has 10 different version with 10 different skins, and they get angry when i use mods and make the characters i play look better (in my opinion)

The Ganyu and Shenhe skins were amazing. .I really hope they continue with that theme. I love elegant dresses. Also the Ningguang one was killer too. I have no idea why they dont use the character usage rates to decide who gets skins. Zhongli should have had one years ago. Also Bennet and Xiangling.

I wish there were more merchandise options. I like figures, but paying $400 for a figure is a huge thing for me and I'd be much happier if there were some $50-100 figures available that weren't chibis. Xinqiu's outfit is great but I hate how they gave him this dumb pony tail in the back

Look I am not sure where you heard that hoyo cant buff units but thats completely untrue you just have to look a zhongli that got a buff and parts was given new features... they not allowed to nurf or remove somthing from a kit or add something that completely changes the kit after release, but buffs are allowed that enhance ie, dmg number

The skins would easily pay for the time to create them- fans create amazing quality skins all the time for free. I also think it would be in both Hoyo and player's best interest to lower the price. Another huge benefit that skins would offer is making characters more appealing to players- for instance, I hated fielding Xingqiu until his Fontaine skin. I dont love the Fontaine skin, but I like it just enough to stop shooting myself in the foot by refusing to use him. I think most people have characters that they would be a lot more willing to pull on if they had access to better/different outfits.

Meanwhile honkai impact getting skins like every patch Genshin skins are made for big events with same theme and lore connection also so it wouldn't make sense to release a skin when there isn't any lore to it

It makes me so mad too...and even 3rd party figurines are very random in quality..there's a 3rd party (i assume) version floating around on Amazon and the Zhongli one is good but the Raiden and other female ones look horrible?? So yeah overall really weird choices for their merch when it comes to official stuff.

@Car1b_J OK I tell you a example that I had in my real life, I like expressing new stuff and once I tried to smoked, I bough a pack of cigarettes and I mocked 3 to 5 of them in range of 6 to 9 month and I didn't like it (fortunately) and give rest of it to someone else. Did I ever smocked? Yes am I smoker? No. That exactly apply to the spending few time a tiny amount of money, yes you spend money but bcuz it's not consistently or large amount you still count as f2p.

They should release skins every patch. Most skins still retain the characters' silhouette.

I feel like they took it the wrong way when people complained about the skins. It's not that we don't want more skins we do, it's just we don't wanna spend 20-40 dollars for them when we can use that to just get wishes. I don't mind skins at all not even the 5* ones but if you're gonna make them cost that much at least give us like extra stats or something because I don't think a 10 pull is worth a skin that only changes color and voice lines. Diluc's skin it's cool but come on. They make so much already all they gotta do is make skins cost maybe only like 10 dollars and they would make a lot more because lots and lots of more people would be willing to spend that little for a skin, therefore technically adding up to more profit than you would've gotten if you made the skin cost say 20 or 30. I don't think they understand that though and once again took it the wrong way I mean look at mobile legends, now granted they are a completely different game and I will admit it's way too much but it's 30 dollars for a skin, however you get new voicelines/animations and you get a lot of extra stats to the character so it's actually pay to win. Meanwhile in genshin it's 2480 genesis crystals (a ten roll and a half almost) for Diluc's skin and all it does is change colors, voicelines and that's kinda it. You see the problem there other than mobile legends having a cosmetic cost 30 dollars? To me the way to fix it is to have the skins be maybe at least 10-15 dollars and make it costs actual money and not use crystals because overall you're better off using them for wishes instead depending on your pity situation and such.

I don't think there'll be a genshin 2, I think we'll probably get a new map and story in the same game. sort of like if enka or SoBE were the same size as the main map.

Genshin needs more dynamic skins. Just Diluc has one but it isn't that much of a Dynamic change to his normal look. WuWa is doing skins right while Genshin is just sitting over here with their thumbs up their ass.

The skins thing is so random of them. Like, what are you doing, Hoyo?! You're leaving money on the table here! Same with the figures. It's frustrating. I love the Klee skin, it's show she should look. And the Kirara skin is so incredibly perfect for her and that whole event. Those two will always be in those outfits. But like...how does Bennett not have a skin? He's just vaguely Kingdom Hearts Sora forever? Come on! Or anyone! I remember Diluc's skin dropping and the absolute eruption in the fan base over it. My partner bought it immediately and doesn't even play Diluc. It looks incredible. I'd rather have more skins than useless 4 stars and event weapons that will never see the light of day. Or another event where the main mission is taking to the same 4 people in two locations. I know real content is expensive and takes time but Hoyo has all the money on earth and it's been years! Finally, as Fischl's biggest fan, I do not like that skin. Her original look is goated. The only way to improve it would be to go the opposite way of the skin. The skin is all nice and like going on a picnic on a sunshiney day. Go the other way: witchy, goth, dramatic as hell. Or just like do a new skin for someone every month. Is it that hard?!
