Something that I find really interesting is the use of bossa nova by japanese bands. I'm brazilian, and here bossa nova was always something related to the higher classes of society, meaning that if you listen to, let's say, Vinícius de Morais, you're either rich or posing as a rich person. This makes the appreciation of the genre much more confined to a certain kind of people that are either rich or don't care about what others might think. But it doesn't seem to be the case in Japan, those guys are popularizing this kind of music to an extent that is not seen here, and are doing it making absolute art too, which is amazing for me, because even tho we created it, it is like a dying genre here in Brazil, so it is really heartwarming to see that other people in the world are continuing it, recently I discovered an american artists that also uses bossa nova, that is Laufey. Anyway, I just wanted to express my joy in this phenomenon. P.S. Great video!

That’s actually really interesting insights thank you for sharing! It’s amazing how rich the history of bossa nova is and how a genre of music can be perceived so differently from different regions of the world, I’m glad they can carry on the beauty that is of bossa nova . And thank you so much I’m really glad you enjoyed the video ❤️

I love that lamp is getting more recognition than it was. I first heard Lamp, specifically Hisoyakani, in an edit 2 or 3 years ago. Since then, I've been repeating their discography 🙏🙏 they introduced me to SK

love lamp, their vocal harmonies and the way they swing into different unexpected keys is unlike any other band for me. Usually you can kind of gather what sound (or key) a song is gonna end up in but lamp always leaves me surprised with the new sounds they arrive at

thank you for this one! our music tastes are so aligned. lamp has been a favourite for years. there's also a lesson for creators I think, with lamp not giving much thought or importance to "numbers". I'm trying to unlearn and relearn this myself. 1. "numbers" - metrics through views, likes, streams, etc. are variable in reason, unpredictable, and uncontrollable. let your obsession over it go 2. remember the humans behind the "numbers" and then you realise just how much of an impact you've truly made. 5 views are 5 lovely people with thoughts and lives as rich as our own 🥹 sobering, lamps perspective on creativity and fame. they never let the "numbers" get to them, and so that sincerity in their music remained intact. ❤
@orange_glider5 ай бұрын
Couldn’t have said it better! I totally agree with this!!! It’s always inspiring seeing and knowing that genuine creation in all forms from music, art etc. will always stay timeless, having fun doing what you love will always mean so much more than the numbers

What a great video man, in my perspective their popularity really did boom out of nowhere. I remember discovering them back in 2014 on a soundcloud playlist. And after following them on social media, over the years their growth really expanded more than before.

I first discovered lamp on the bus in my 1st year of HS on soundcloud (this was before tiktok around 2013-14). It kept me going through those tough years, I didnt have many friends. Its the kindve music that the music that takes you to another world. A world with no worries. Tbh Im kindve grateful for their popularity bc I lost that Soundcloud account and all those playlists. If it wasnt for tiktok I wouldve probably forgotten about them tbh. I also found it strange though how popular they are now, if I showed other kids this in Highschool I would've gotten bullied. The only thing that does annoy me is ppl call it Tiktok music.

I got into lamp in the year 2014. No one i knew was listening to them then. Ive checked in on lamp throughout the years but kind of fell off. Last night i got to meet them and watch them play live. I was floored by how many ppl were at the show. It was packed. I am certain i was the only millennial at the show. I met a lot of cool ppl. Every new person i met i asked them how did they discover lamp. The majority of them said tik tok. I am still shocked by the crowd size. Also its funny to note that the songs i consider to be certified bangers everyone else considered mid and vice versa. Thats what happens when 2 different generations discover lamp in 2 different eras

Wow thank you for sharing! You’re super lucky you got to see them live I hope the show was amazing! It’s quite surreal actually, just goes to show how powerful of a platform TikTok can be getting a Japanese indie band like Lamp selling out shows in the US!

Hey thank you so much man! I'd defs recommend bands like tricot and uchi conbini maybe not as grunge (as I'm not too familiar with grunge) but they are defs leaning towards that altrock/mathrock! :)
@enriquepastor36264 ай бұрын
@@orange_glider thank! Already knew about tricot! When I went to Japan I experienced the hardcore scene and it’s something else… but I didn’t have enough time to discover their alternative bands. I need to find their version of the "zoomergaze" movement, or at least old school wave of alt rock bands
