This is some of the best footage I've seen on the Blackmagic pocket 4k. I saw you used the sigma 18-35 with a metabones a while back and I have to ask, Do you prefer that lens or the Lumix 12-35mm you used on this shoot?
@storylitfilms Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Will! Means a lot bro!! Yeah I bounce back and forth between the two. I love the sigma 18-35 for shallow focus and low light situations, I know a lot of people knock it for being clinical but to me it has a lot of characteristics I love, it's sharp, its got a nice bokeh, and its fast. If I had to pick between the two I'd go sigma, but the fact the lumix is native to the pocket 4k and packs such a punch I find myself using it more often then not.
@storylitfilms Жыл бұрын
@@QuentinAnthonyAnderson Yeah! Hahaha, it's a great lens, it definitely has some downsides: chromatic aberration at 12mm, no manual aperture control, falls a bit flat. But in terms of bang for buck lens, it's well worth the money. I have it on my pk4 85% of the time. I think you will grow to love it the more you use it!

I cant wait for the final movie to come out! :D As a fellow BMPCC4K shooter, im always very glad, when I found a professional cinematic, narrative work with this camera, that actually looks like a movie. The interrogation scene really captures the feeling and style of the recent Batman movie. It would be great to see how you work on these movies, I hope there will be some BTS videos about your work with this camera :D Btw what kind of lights did you use for this movie?
@storylitfilms Жыл бұрын
Thank you Larion! Very grateful for your kind words! Means a lot! As for your questions: I wish this were a feature but it was more of a "shoot a few scenes, make a trailer cut and see if it draws interest to do a full feature" So as it stands know I have a few scenes shot but not a project in its entirety. The concept is based off of what inspired the movie "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" I'm so glad to hear about the batman connection! That and "High and Low" were my two inspirations in terms of look and style! I should've taken BTS videos but didn't I'm trying to be better about that this year! For lighting this I used all quasars, just the regular kind with 3 settings: 5600, 4500, 3200. I stuck around 4500 for most of it as I wanted a more florescent style look.
@jn-xw3cq6 ай бұрын
You should totally make a longer version. It doesn't have to be a feature but at least a 10-20 minute film. 1 minute is just a tease lol (but a great one at that ;)

This is really good. I'm thinking a Pro Mist 1/4 for sure? You're showing what you can get out of the Pocket 4K. I upgraded to the 6k Pro - did I need to? I think you'll excel with it. Well done.
@storylitfilms Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much!! Yeah great eye, pro mist 1/4, I normally don't use any filters other than ND's and Grad ND's but sometimes the pro mist feels right story wise and it definitely felt right here. When I think of Fair's I think of a bit more of a grungy, gritty environment but also a fun glowing environment. The pro mist helped get that soft glow in camera to where I didn't have to tinker with it in post. That's great about the 6k Pro! How are you liking it? I've shot on it a few times and really like the 35mm sensor compared to the Pocket 4k. I've always loved the S35 sensors best, even over large format.

What settings and lens did u use? This looks so good! I hope you can make a breakdown of the colorgrading.

Thank you tons Pablo! I had the camera at around 400iso for the fair shots! I normally only use the Lumix 12-35mm on the pocket 4k, but sometimes throw an Atlas Orion on there with a PL adapter. I think the 4k pairs really nice with PL glass but there can be a crop factor sometimes. The color grading was one of the tricky parts, I was trying to get a more teal/sickly greenish look without destroying skin tones. Took a bit to build the grade for it. I'll try to get a video uploaded on grading!

Normally I do a Rec 709 color space transform, then base correct with just simple exposure and color in the wheels or curves. Then I built a creative look from how I remember the fair growing up. I definitely leaned into a swampy green look. And added a “glow” plug in. I’ll have to look at the node structure when I’m back in the office though

Yeah you got it! It was mostly shot 12:1 compression, Mostly stuck at a T and f2.8 for interiors, and f5.6 for exteriors. VND was used on exteriors.

Liked and subscribed. What lens did you use on that opening shot? Great work!

Thank you for your kind words my friend! Means a lot! I used the Panasonic Lumix 12-35 v1 for that opening shot. The lens is fantastic and nearly lives on my bmpcc 4k. At 12mm its come some chromatic aberration and is a bit soft (even stopped down) but seems to clean up once its zoomed in a bit.
