3:30 this might be my favorite shot in any scary movie. no loud music, the camera not drawing your attention to it, and it's how a realistic serial killer would act. lurking in the shadows not making any noise - just observing their target. the feeling of being watched actually justified chilling

He was actually inspired by when he was a kid and a literal stranger knocked on his fams door n asked for somebody they’ve never heard of. And the next day he found out that a buncha houses in his neighborhood were broken into because im guessing no one answered when the “visitors” knocked on the doors of those other houses.

There was one time we heard a knock at the door. When nobody came to the front at first the guy must have thought nobody was home and just jiggled the doorknob open. My boyfriend was just like, "Can I help you???" And he responded, "Uh, yeah, I'm the inspector. Is your landlord around?" Stupidest excuse because an actual inspector came a month previously and they only show up every few years. He left after my bf said no and we were just so confused. XD

@@rascoehunter3608 Concept is good, as it breaks most basic thing of our psychology. We consider home safe place. So basically every home invasion movie is one of most scary thing. It makes us realize that home isn't no PvP zone in damn MMORPG and we MAY be attacked there. It's not like horror with zombie, other monsters or reanimated kiddo who drowned in lake kills people, that you end watching and think "Ok, it won't happen to me" But you still need to turn concept into technically good movie.

i watched this movie for the first time when i was like 10?? so it was 2011 or so, quite a while ago by teenage standards. doesn't matter how long i go though between watching this movie or seeing recaps, there's one line that sticks with me. "why are you doing this?" "because you were home." that's always haunted me, it just drives home how random and senseless all of this is. it was a source of paranoia for months afterward, and as my mom says, "it just proves that it could have been anyone and that's the point of the line, to make you paranoid and imagine yourself in the situation. it's really effective from a psychological horror standpoint."

What's crazy is that in 2011, you were an innocent 10 year old child being creeped out by this movie but in 2011, I was 19 years old, newly wed with a newborn baby.... it's just surreal looking at what others were doing at that time! Oh and I'm still married and still only has that 1 kid. So that was a significant year in my life.

The similarities to the movie events and events that the director based it on are that a stranger would knock on a door asking for a made up person. The difference is that the real events were that if there was no answer, the stranger would rob the house. This actually happened in the directors’ childhood.

James was definitely right about watching this movie at 2:00 AM and feeling a certain way as a result. Quick story: I was halfway through this film in my first viewing of it when I had to go outside to grab something I left in my car. Sure enough, as soon as I stepped out onto the porch, I started looking around to see if anyone else was out there. 😄 The Strangers definitely has a way of making the viewer feel anxious and a bit vulnerable.

I think it's more that it isn't a cheap jump scare that relies entirely on something that isn't on the screen, like a loud music sting when there's not actually something to be scared of. The movie definitely has some of those, but the scares mostly feel like genuine jump scares and not (literally) orchestrated.

Always been one of my favorite horror movies ever. One of the few that actually ever scared me. And it has everything to do with how realistic it all feels. Love that both the killers and victims are intelligent enough to make all the right moves. Always have said, if I wanted to murder someone in this way, you've gotta take out the phones and vehicles first.
